National Milling fires Peter Cottan

Share

National Milling Corporation (NMC) has relieved managing director Peter Cottan of his duties.

NMC announced the development in a statement on March 3, saying Mr Cottan’s separation from the company was with immediate effect.

“National Milling Corporation announces the departure of Mr. Peter Cottan who ceases to be Managing Director with immediate effect.

“Mr David Bosse, formerly finance director, has been appointed acting managing director,” the statement reads.

The NMC board of directors has thanked Mr Cottan for his dedication, hard work and commitment to making the company what it is.

On February 28, when the Daily Mail first learnt of his dismissal, Mr Cottan said NMC would issue a statement on the matter on March 5.

He had dismissed reports of his separation from NMC as a rumour.

“There will be an official statement on the matter. Anything before that is pure speculation,” Mr Cottan had said.

NMC public relations manager Ben Saili had said on Monday that the company’s position on the issue was that Mr Cottan had taken leave of absence.

  1. What happened? Did the MMD government force his dismissal from NMC?

It is because he challenged the Farmers to bring out the wheat they were holding to bring the prices down for flour which made sense as Zambians are suffering from high prices. Just because people who have commercial farms have political support from the MMD they succeeded in the end.

The MMD is a party of rich people!!!

Hope the price of WHEAT will be reduced for poor Zambians.

  2. Thats sad…what ever happened? hope the new Damaging Director will take care of Esther the way Mr Cotton did..hope it also won’t affect her boxing….(as in sponsorship)

  3. Let Peter Cottan go back to Kitwe and run his father’s business. Guess the business the father was running. Funeral Serrvices Undertaking. Used to be called Kwa KOTONI

  4. #8 “MASTER”S VOICE,”

Irrelevant comment and too personal, what has the funeral service undertaking to do with Cottan’s dismissal?

  5. He was declared to be a PF supporter after he refused to release bags of meal meal for campaigns in Mporokoso. Ask anybody from the Office of the Presido.

  6. The man should have been fired a long time ago! He has been exporting wheat bran at a loss without regard for Zambian livestock feed manufacturers. He has been breaking antitrust laws through fixing prices of products. If the competition commission did not have iliterates (MMD Cadres), national milling was going to be taken to court and I am sure they would have paid huge amounts of money.

He has been boasting that no one can tough him because he is politically connected to those in power. Let us see how they will now look after you

  7. He has been at the helm at NMC for a long time now.

Its time for someone else to take over.

This will be same way MMD govt will be dismissed by the Zambian people by the end of this year

  8. :(( am sure its time for Coltan to go tho most of us thought its his company. As for Easter, the man has done so much to promote her. however, it so sad if Easter and her manager never thought of sourcing for other sponsers or maybe NMC bought all their rights. As we are just anticipating the worse thing to happen in terms of sponsership, there must be a contract to be honoured by the NMC under the new MD.

  9. Too sad!! but am not surprised coz anybody can b fired in this year of elections. Support some1 if u want to save yo job or else!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Its amazing just how ignorant people can be at times. It is not a must that people should repsond to all postings and as such, instead of exposing how unintelligent and blatantly dull people can be, such as #1, it is better to simply shut up than post useless comments. Cotton has indeed lost his job, and possibly, we might never get to know the honest truth about it. What should of concern is indeed the sponsorship of our boxer which cottan so selflessly championed. It has also been my contemplation that esther ought to have considered retiring shortly after her last fight; with a house, and hopefully some steady income, she could do well with abandoning the boxing ring. Infact, the ring should be left for the foolish like #1, a few blows to his empty head could help us all.

  11. its a sad story really but if we had planned for all our down turns as a people we would be shinning success his got his own bad ways but hey wats done is done n its for the better i hope

  12. Iyee esther phiri chabipa, without cotton, no mo stables???? But henry banda can help, i hear he also wanted to have some!!!, Imwe bantu wat did #1 say? cant see his comment.

  13. #15, No is there definitely a difference between the two.
MMD has no suitable replacement now or in the near future, whereas there was a ready and suitable replacement for Mr Cottan.

  14. # 15…Zambians have already identified a suitable and efficient person to take over the running of govt by the end of 2011.

Too bad that you in MMD are still grappling with your liability named rupiah

  15. It is good to learn that this is the same KOTONI of the infamous funeral services on the copperbelt.

The company was rumored to return to the cemetery at night and retrieve their caskets for resale. That’s how come cement is poured over caskets now during burial

  16. He helped esther quite ok,but he was also scheming from the company. He over budgeted the fights, and the boxers were getting nothing.guess who was getting the rest? The esther Phiri fights were just a money making venture for him.If Esther was really a world class fighter as cottan was claiming her to be,why wasnt she getting offers to fight abroad with world class fighters where the money is?
Cottan could have been exposed a long time ago if we had real journalism in this country. The problem with our journalists is that the think reporting is just about politics.
The last esther fight the budget was K800Mili From this he claimed they had to pay for the hall, purse money and advertising. But boxing is a business like any other and you have to make a profit at the end of it all.I will explain

  17. The story is so devoid of information all of you who support state owned media can see what kind of journalism you are promoting, one that relies on official statements! As can be seen from the blogging people are left to speculate wildly.

  18. There is nothing wrong for one to change jobs. Those who do not change jobs simply mean that they are not marketable. Like Sata’s Job is to be a perpetual loser it means he is not marketable as a business consultant he professes to be. After all what consultancy can one get from colonial constable? Like Winter Kabimba 100 court cases 99 losses and one no contest. Some of us who are marketable can lose a job today and get it 2moro. Equally Cotan will move over in life. As for Esther Cottan has done more than enough. its high time she changed and sat behind the desk to further her education. She can’t continue fighting indefinitely or else she will end up a being a garbage like Muhammad Ali. Same with Sata please for once let’s see Sata planting some maize before he goes to the tomb

  19. @32 not everyone can be farmer. its a matter of choice.
KK and many old dudes in Lusaka have never planted maize, why force sata to do that. As long as you are not feeding him and he is succesful in real estates, leave him

  20. What I know is that cotton has been moved to seaboard the mother company of NMC. This the report I read from QFM website. He is not fired but has been given an appointment at seaboard. Seaboard is the mother company of national milling. They own most agro-producing companies in Africa and through out the world with their headquarters in USA. Daily mail report diferent from other media sometimes.

  21. Esther shall be fine. National milling is Esther’s sponsor not cottan. Ohwell let NMC have competition.

  22. My worry was he took sponsorship of esther so personal was there something we shud know. # 33, u ve a very shallow thinking; am sure u neva used yo brains wen blogging. Your hatred for MCS equals witchcraft; who tels u goin to the tomb depends on age.

  23. Cottan Grew big headed, he even started talking for the farmers instead of the millers. He wanted to always be in the limelight. Now he has een sorted OUT.

  24. # 8 your comment just shows how stupid YOU are! just because the 2 names sound alike kotoni and cottan (which actually is very different as you can read) you think that mr cottan owns a funeral business when he has nothing to do with such…. you should be embarressed by that comment haha you *****…get a life and a proper accent then maybe you will read that they are two different names! #27 your just as stupid for believing such ridicoulus statements!

  25. Mr.Cottan spent all of his time and energy ‘Feeding the nation’ with NMC; providing jobs and helping stimulate the market. He also supported many local charitable organizations through National milling. Mr Cottan via NMC sponsored Esther Phiri- an inspiration in the world of sport. He will surely be missed at the helm of this company and wish him luck for his next venture.

  26. Please be aware of PAD. Thank you. Consult your doctor if you feel unusual pain and aches in your lower limbs.

  27. guys the language, # 1 get a life please. lets work to develop this nation weather this president or that lets work hard as citizens. the world’s powerful country; USA, has 75% of it economy being run by the bussiness industry. we can do it.
