Former Finance and National Planning Minister, N’gandu Magande has been appointed as Interim President of the newly launched National Movement for Progress Party (NMPP).
Mr Magande, who is also former Chilanga member of Parliament, was MMD National Executive Committee (NEC) Chairman for Finance, up until his expulsion from the from the ruling party.
The NMPP’s new Secretary General, Logan Shemena, has since announced the official launch of the party adding that it was registered on 2nd March 2011.
The NMPP is the latest of the newly formed parties, among them the national restoration Party (NAREP), ahead of this year’s general elections
Meanwhile, Political Parties in Zambia have been urged to be seriously pro-active in the anti-corruption crusade.
Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Board Chairperson, Andrew Ntewewe says the country needs selfless political leadership in fighting corruption.
Mr. Ntewewe further says the youth movement will not sit idle on such matters because doing so will plunge the nation further into socio-economic instability.

If the pact had stood firm, Magande’s arrival onto the scene would have diluted the opposition votes. Now that there is no pact, and the oposition stands very little chance to win, his arrival might spring some new twist in the tale. Some MMD loyalists and their followers might tag along with him e.g. Masebo, Shakafuswa, Mpombo and the like will somewhat reduce from MMD’s numbers. He will also give HH a good run in Southern Province. This combination could give Sata a fair chance of winning. on the other hand, I bet a number of MMD/UPND/PF voters mainly along the line of rail who had great respect for this man would cast the vote on him which complicates the prediction of the expected outcome. It’s democracy after all. Let the majority win and rule, whether MMD,PF,UPND,Magande etc.

”The United Party for National Development (UPND) executive Committee has resolved to withdraw from the pact with the Patriotic Front.
The Watchdog has been informed that the UPND NEC met at the party secretariat late Thursday afternoon and unanimously resolved to end the pact.
The meeting which was chaired by party president Hakainde Hichilema also resolved that Hicilema will stand as party presidential candidate this year.

Barotse land has powerful men and women of substance, we are talking of HH, Magande, Milupi, to name a few. So you powerful brains of economic, social drive HH, Magande and Milupi should work together. In you teams there is new leadership and ideas unlike MMD and PF. Bring on board Miyanda and Sakwiba, you will get all the votes for Western, Southern, Central, Northwestern and share Lusaka and Copperbelt among Yourselves, PF and MMD with you having a big chuck of it. MMD will get votes from Eastern, Northern and partly Luapula. PF will get Copperbelt coz there people can think properly. It is my honest opinion the President Banda does not have a vision for the country, Mwanawasa was also just woken up to come and be President but he proved his capability on standing firm on what he believed was good for the nation and exposed the plunderers. As for President Banda he feels inadequate and has chosen to band with people Mwanawasa had distanced himself from, he has brought former President Chiluba and company.
So I think that the mere fact that President Banda lacks self confidence and feels he needs ‘king makers’ does not inspire me at all. He is totally not fit to be President that’s why up to now he has failed to make a distinct mark on the people. A person in the opposition by the name of Mr Michael Chilufya Sata easily pulls a willing crowd without government machinery to attend his rallies. It means therefore that people are more inspired by Mr Sata and willing to spend their money to hear him. And it is for very good reasons since he has proved himself as a man that delivers results. As long as there is no foresight among the politicians, the quest for human development in the counrty will always remain at the bottom. Surely its common sense that when 15 presidents stand up for persidency they are simply messing with the votes. Why then should we allow this rubbish if we want change. Its okay to form parties but in the long run lt minority parrties declare their support for the major one to enhance their bid into governing. This cowboy ideology of ‘I can go it alone’ is not going to work for any aspirant that has no solid ground for existence. The current environment calls for corporation and coexistence on common goals in order to succeed. So in this year’s election, You can vote for any party MP but, please lets support one of three major ones for the presidencey.

How can any person with a brain think RB, or Sata is better than Magande. Magande was Chief Officer for an organization with over 72 countries, this is the right man to lead Zambia. You have my vote.

My opinion is that Magande could actually represent the change that is necessary for Zambia. The man has a proven track record and I dont see how anyone could compare him to the likes of Ben Mwila, Mulongoti, etc. Its a pity good leaders are never appreciated in Zambia. Zambia’s current economic success recorded in the last decade,which MMD can now boast of, was kick-started and piloted by this man, and LPM. What we need right now is someone with policies that can link the growth recorded so far to poverty reduction in the country, and in my opinion, Magande can do it.
Lets not be fooled by eloquent people who make pacts and promises based on winning elections. Elections is one thing, and developing a country is another. For my conscious, I will vote for Magande.
