President Rupiah Banda says his Government is concerned with the crisis that has rocked North Africa.
President BANDA says the crisis is impacting negatively on crude oil.
Mr Banda is, however, confident that the situation could stabilize soon.
He was speaking in an interview with Thomas Thomson Reuters in South Africa
Meanwhile Mr Banda says the MMD will still win this year’s tripartite election even if the PACT remained intact.
Mr BANDA says this is because of the many developmental projects his Government has initiated.
Mr Banda also says the MMD enjoys a countrywide presence.

The crisis in north africa is only worrying in terms of economic impacts but also political in that countries with elections in 2011 will copy their friends in the north.
MMD has presence in all the parts of Zambia but enjoys little support in major urban areas*
LT, it is Thomson Reuters and not Thomas!
Fear is spreading in all African dictators.
Good point #1 modus Operandi. These vote rigging corrupt fat cats are next! Should they rig as usual, all protests will take place in urban areas where they dont have support, especially on the Copperbelt where there are PF thugs.
LT: What are the other speakers (Heads of State) if any saying at this forum?
use bold text.
what you want here
this will play games with the admin a little.
everyone can be bold.
Why worry when you have started killing in Zambia, By the way the uprising started in Barotseland before it went to Tunisia, Egypt then Libya. In Barotseland you acted like Gaddafi and killed your people and injured some and the rest you detained. You have forgotten so soon!!
< b turnthisaround < what you want here < b/ turnthisaround <
umwenso wakwingila koswe iwe waumfwa, lolela iwe swine, ukachimona this year uleya waunfwa, elo ta twakupele na chance waumfwa, we have a huge order of panga & machettes coming waunfwa, wabe tole waumfwa! ulemona kwati niwebo bige but waladabwa waumfwa! pumbafu iwe
THOUGH WE ARE HIT ON THE OIL SIDE OF THINGS, IT IS A LESSON TO YOU. DRAW SOME LESSONS FROM THERE.
YOU SHOULD LEARN TO LISTEN TO THE PIPO WHO HAVE PUT U IN POWER. YOU SHOULD UPHOLD WHAT THEY WANT AND NOT REJECT THEIR IDEAS ESPECIALLY IDEAS EXPECTED TO DIGNIFY THEM OR GIVE POWER TO THEIR VOICES……
YOU ARE NOT AN ISLAND…PEOPLE CAN HAVE POWER OVER YOU IF YOU CONTINUE YOUR ATTITUDE…….
PEOPLES WISHES SHOULD BE ABOVE EVERYTHING. UNFORTUNATELY U DO NOT THINK ONE DAY U WILL BE OUT OF OFFICE…………
RB you’ll win elections if the people want you not because of developmental projects you have done. In any democratic elections, its the people that speak not projects. Power to the people!
Our President has really got concerned immediately the revolution touched Libya.thats when even his statement came ” Zambians who are talking of an Uprising in Zambia similar to North Africa are not Normal” I qoute.
Libya, Libya, Libya Libya. Lap Green ..Oil. apa epo mpelele.
When Gaddafi goes, which is just a question of time, Ethiopia and Chad – are next to up rise, this is a world revolution. It all started with one man “Mohammed Bouazizi”. When the social class begins to rise and asks for what is rightfully theirs.
Just look at what is happening in North Africa, those leaders have done developmental projects more than you, but the people don’t want them. What does that tell you, simple people have power. Actually the development you’re talking about is not even driven by the people, the public has less participation in your programmes.
The President must realise that what the Investors are saying about Zambia is not what is on the ground. They used to praise Egypt highly, but see what has happened. It is the people who feel it not some investors whose only idea of development is what he will get out of it.Your excellence try one day to travel incoginito(if you can manage to hide your bulge) and visit some bars to hear the true feelings of the people. You can prevent what you worrying about if you dont put too much emphasis on winning the elections at all costs. Those around you may know something but because of greed, will never tell you. They say Zambia is rated so and so because it is to their advantage. When trouble erupts they simply fly out.
This chap is just worried about ZAMTEL. Libyan assets have been frozen. There is no more money to invest in Zamtel. In the meantime the Ugandan Zamtel management headed by Hans Paulsen has gone overdrive by firing all Zambian Directors and replacing them with fellow Ugandans. I am quite sure this is for purposes of Asset stripping while there is still confusion in Libya. Once again st/u..pi;;d Zambians you have been dribbled by a bunch of warm beer drinking relatives of Yoweri Museveni.
I GENUINELY THE REVOLUTION IS HEADING OUR WAY BECAUSE OF IRREVERSIBLE POVERTY AND HOPELESSNESS AMONG THE YOUTH. MARK MY WORDS, THERE ARE MANY RECKLESS LEADERS IN OUR MIDST TO IGNITE THE MASS ANGER UNDERNEATH OUR HOPELESSNESS.
Oil will go up ‘ballistically’ if unrest shifts to Saudi Arabia.
The guilty are always scared.
Worry about what coming for you old man!
I will not be too surprised if RB comes back from SA as “Doctor RB”! It’s about time. kekekekekeke!!!
Please help me Fellow Zedians help to answer this..
If Gadaffi Falls What will happen to LAP Green Particualrly ZAMTEL because much of GAdaffi’s Assets, Investments and Bank Accounts have been Frozen by Many Countries including the funds held in USA banks.
There’s a very good example in the north, we shall follow through the ballot. Lucky for us, it’s an election year…. as long as we do not allow rigging.
#22 LAP GREEN, Lap Green is not Gadaffi’s entity.
Of course you could be worried because Lapgreen is one of a farked up investment. It smells full of stinky shirt.
GRZ Is the worst gvt ever. This gvt ,there is no initiative,no logic or strategy and thats The reason why there has no plan to recover as well as restoration.kuya babele .pabwato.
People, please help me. Are we ever going to have a president whom all Zambians are going to respect and love?
@ Umuntu, the day Zambia gets a president Bemba’s, Tongas, some lozi’s and some Ngonis ( one of the many eastern kingdoms and does not represent all of us other easterners) hate; but loved by the other 69 groups then Zambia will have gains a great president. Cause the above mentioned have caused havoc on mother zed masiku ya zanda( many years).
@ mama Emma number 16 please educate me on this Ugandan Zamtel as you say that is practicing nepotism of the national kind. Thankyou in advance. RB should have known not to fully trust Arabs especially of the ghaddafi dispensation. Who’s next to go Mugabe, so southern Africa can fully cleanse itself of old dictators from Kaundas era.
Here is how Zamtel could have survived. They could have monopolized the local cell waves by providing the cheapest but best customer service oriented business in that industry. Held their employee wages at the same rate for five years then sourced an investor to buy 35% shares and floated the 10 percent to their own employees while while the last five % would have been on LUSE for purchase by the general Zambian public. So simple yet so hard due to government and the opposition not having any tangible divergent intellectual brains.
@ 1984 as of last December Ghana started producing oil, this year two other African countries join the oil producers list, making the number twelve African states. Funny how the motherlandstill is not self sufficient. We have more off and onshore reserves than anyother continent. Resources in Africa are like the wind, everywhere you turn. Greed and mornachilistic people have held us back, and prevented our civilization as happened when we first civilized this planet.
# 16 stop fooling yourself. zamtel is a business entity if the lybians canot handle it will be bought. there alot of chap on the haunt
Lap green stinks of Gadaffi. watch this space Zamtel!
The LAP Green Network is part a part of the Libya – Africa Investment Portfolio (LAP) that was incorporated in 2006 as a Libyan foreign investment vehicle primarily focusing on contributing to the development of African countries. The state owned vehicle had an initial capital of US $ 5 Billion.

no 32.Zambian tax payers would end up footing the bill to clean up the MMD foolish deals with dodgy governments. We can argue all day about the legal position of Zamtel. Bad examples of ZeD government engaging in short cuts is FBZ and oil procurement contracts. The problem with the Lapgreen deal is that Gadaffi and his cronies were hiding behind such phony companies to launder their ill gotten cash.
All Libyan firms are fully or partly owned by gadafi and his circle. RB is worried because he is not getting anything e.g fradulent dividends
#35 zambian were already paying for zamtels mess and inefficiencies. just like we have been paying for ZCCM, ZIMCO,MEMACO, ZANACO, NCZ, ZA, ZNBC. in its position i can assure you Gov will never take control of zamtel should the worst happen. No tax payer are footing FBZ bill in any way.its a profitable business sustaining itself.
#15 Deja Vu what you are saying make no sense at all. it amazing how you deliberately mislead yourself. so who should make up the statistics of whats happening in zambia. the people in chibolya? let the post there statistics of zambia’s development or under development i would be glad to read that.
tell me who does the economic statistics about SA, UK, USA, BOSTWANA, NIGERIA. Don’t be surprise if i tell you that its actually the same characters using constant parameters.
besides those chaps in zambia CSO plus maybe some private groups. these will continue even when your preferred president wins the elections
#38 Global citizaen – What Iam saying makes a lot of sense only if you can read carefully. What Ia saying is simply that PRAISES BY INVESTORS AND MMD COHORTS ARE NOT A BAROMETER FOR THE PRESIDENT TO THINK ALL IS WELL.IT US WHO SHOULD SAY YES RB YOU HAVE DONE WELL, UNFORTUNATELY THE FEW THAT ARE EATING WELL WILL NEVER ALLOW US WHO ARE OUTSIDE THE CIRCLE TO CHAT WITH RB AND TELL HIM THE TRUTH. THINGS ARE NOT WELL. YOU MAY BE FORTUNATE ENOUGH BUT THAT IS NOT A MEASURE OF THE TRUE SITUATION.
# 39 ah i see. i think misunderstood you. my apology. i however want to correct you on one thing. You are wrong to say RB looks at the praises he get as a barometer. He knows too well that their are specific economic indicators that should be looked at. and those indicators you know about them and they are showing that actually the country is progressing. the difficulties people are in will not disappear in 5 years but for as long as we maintain our economic course they will easy before they disappear. if we care about our children where should no go backward were the gov owns everything but continue in this direction where gov is small and people own everything. I know that people like you DEja Vu believe that too many foriegners are taking over american are crying that the foreigners
