JAPAN has provided a 174.5 million kwacha grant to Mumbwa and Chongwe district health offices.

The money is meant to facilitate the importation of two ambulances from Japan.

Japanese Ambassador to Zambia Akio Egawa says Chongwe district health office will receive a grant of 88 million kwacha while Mumbwa district health office will receive 86.5 million kwacha.

Mr. Egawa says the ambulances to be imported have been donated by two Japanese municipalities.

He expressed hope that the provision of the ambulances in the districts will improve the provision of referral transport system in the two districts.

The Japanese envoy was speaking when he signed the grant with the two health institutions in Lusaka on Tuesday.

At the same function Chongwe District Medical officer Dr. Charles Msiska thanked Japan for providing an ambulance to the district.

Dr. Msiska says the ambulance will enhance efficiency in the provision of health services.

And Mumbwa District Medical Health Officer Dr. Christopher Dube says the ambulance will help reduce maternal mortality cases in the district.

Dr. Dube also thanked Japan for providing assistance in areas of HIV/ AIDS.

  1. Japan is going through some troubled times and yet can afford to give us money. I hope we can honor the lost lives in Japan by putting it to the intended use and not letting it get into people’s pockets.

  2. The story is somewhat vague. The money is meant to facilitate the importation of two ambulances from Japan. Mr. Egawa says the two ambulances to be imported have been donated by two Japanese municipalities. If the two vehicles have been donated, bringing them in the country can’t cost that much.

  3. Japan thanks but please focus on the disasters in your geat nation. These Zambians will just misuse this money.

  4. .
    #1 Nuclear disaster.

    Very good wisdom.

Its my hope that this money is not diverted. We have a lot of families struggling to take their loved ones to hospitals in all corners of Zambia.

  5. Even in their hard times, they can afford to think of others more in need unlike the selfish leaders at the helm of our country who only concentrate on getting themselves fat and growing their bank accounts. Sad indeed but may GOD BLESS THE PEOPLE OF JAPAN.

  6. Even in their hard times, they can afford to think of others more in need unlike the selfish leaders at the helm of our country who only concentrate on getting themselves fat and growing their bank accounts. Sad indeed but may GOD BLESS THE PEOPLE OF JAPAN.

  7. Hey!! and did we accept the grant? If we did then there’s something seriously wrong with us, how do accept a gift from a friend who’s in very serious difficulties it doesn’t matter whether they signed for the it before the disaster or what, its just morally crazy to take the money and pretend like they don’t know whats happening in Japan. I feel so embarrassed to be called a Zambian right now. Please someone use common sense return the money now, they need that money more than we do right now. We really must very shameless people.
Bamambala won’t even use it for the intended purpose. May GOD BLESS JAPAN and wipe their tears, shes such a great nation.

  8. Japan is surely an all weather friend. It’s very astonishing how a country passing thru a very hard and trying period can give so generously and unreservedly .GOD will surely bless u our brothers and sisters of GREAT JAPAN.

  9. THE SITUATION IN JAPAN IS WORSENING EVERYDAY. WHAT IS ZAMBIA DOING ABOUT IT?
WE ARE SAYING OUR 5 ZAMBIANS AND THE EMBASSY STAFF ARE SAFE, IS THAT ALL THE GOVT IS DOING?

  10. 6 @ msana wanzili
This decision was made a long time before the disaster but had to go all through protocol.
Such issues are not just made on spot and announced

Do you have a suggestion what our govenment should do? After all you are a Zambian and you can advise the government what steps to take. Or maybe put it through your MP. Thats why we elect MP’s to represent our views

  11. Ambulance costing less than £12,000!
This is VERY VERY VERY interesting. Japan has very strict emissions policy so any car just a few years old is withdrawn from use and exported to pollute other realms. That is why this refurbished ‘autorec’ ambulance can cost so little. If this had come from China, there would be a hoo haa!

  12. We dont want those vehicles they have radioactive contamination, please concentrate on mourning and serving the gallant japanese people going through toughest moments today more than 12000 pipo dead and still 16000 missing. Ministry of health is the least to donate..their is kapoko and his group check it out..better MOE

  13. @DRAMA, ARE YOU A GOV’T OFFICIAL?
I SUSPECT YOU ARE NOT GIVING THE MP LESSON BECAUSE YOU FEEL WE DO NOT KNOW OUR OWN COUNTRY. THE MANY QUESTIONS WE WOULD LIKE TO BE POSED AND ADDRESSED CAN VERY MUCH BE POSED BY MP’S, THE PROBLEM IS NOT THE QUESTIONS BEING POSED OR ANSWERED, THE REAL ISSUE IS THE NEED FOR ACTION. IT IS BETTER FOR US TO HAVE MORE ACTIONS THAN WORDS FROM OUR LEADERS, WE ARE CONSTANTLY BEING GIVEN PROMISES AND WORDS, MANY OF THESE QUESTIONS HAVE BEEN POSED ALREADY BUT WHAT IS BEING DONE. THE LEVEL OF ACTION IS LEADING TO FRUSTRATION…
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ADVICE, WE WILL PURSUE ALL AVENUES TO HAVE OUR QUESTIONS POSED AND ANSWERED BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY WE WILL PUSH FOR ACTION! ON JAPAN WE NEED TO HEAR MORE TRUTH AND TO HAVE OPTIONS, THE ONLY OPTION SO FAR IS FLEE ON YOUR OWN

  14. Zambia kwena ekulomba ubunga pa malilo , FOR SURE JAPAN IS MOURNING and we are busy collecting grants while we have sold our country to China reaping off all we have on there way .Zambians lets wake up from slumber this is really not good ,because we are rich in terms of natural resources but we have failed to utilize our blessings .

  15. A BIG thank you to the Japenese people. A word of advice to RB/MMD, please do not allow the money to be stolen or misused in any form. If anything, this is the time for GRZ to have been giving to the Japanese people and not receiving. You, GRZ/MMD/RB could have had at least asked Japan to postpone funding until further notice when things improve in Japan. As from me, many thanks again for all the support you have continue to offer in various sectors like water and sanitation, virology, local government just to mention but a few.

  16. On yesterday’s evening TV news here in UK, and in most news media around the World including Zambia I am sure, it was reported that Japan has asked for help from willing Countries, because the situation is really bad due to the third calamity- Contamination – that has now beset their Country. It therefore boggles belief that we can go ahead and accept a grant from Japan without even blinking. Its very embarrassing. It’s like we are waiting for someone to prod us from the back and tell us to say “NO, THANKS. YOU ARE IN MOURNING, JAPAN. NOT THIS TIME”.

  17. Blog 22, you are very right, it bothers me to hear that Zambia have freely accepted the grant when actually the money will put to good use. God should forgive this nation from it’s selfish spirit or will always beggars. Zambian should challenge the to show them the terms of agreement with with CHINESE. Let us also give land to the Japanese…..

  18. very sad indeed! what type of animals have we turned into? this is like looting from a critically injured person at road accident scene….. but again this type of callous behaviour has happened before in zambia, so why am i even surprised? one does not have to be well to do or industrialised to offer assistance….. in zambia at the moment, not even a mention of any form of japan assistance fund raising activity such as musician or other type of performances shuwa! could be wrong because i am am not in zambia but……. knowing us; ki ziyezi

  19. Dear Zambians,we may have misgivings and different views right or wrong ,please let us be mindful that our Japanese brothers and sisters are going through a calamity whose being is in the confines of GOD,s providence.
The comments should not be seen as if Japan caused our poverty so that they provide for us.Why must us Zambians always reason and judge with negativity and bitterness extended to just a samaritan. Are we a cursed nation not to see the children suffering and dying out of something not of their own or not even their parent’s cause.

  20. @16 Drama u need mental calibration to include a full brain tune up. Think beyond your scope and do not venture into rocket science. Japan has just suffered irreparable emotional damage which I believe under humanitarian detects calls for Zambians and the world over to mourn and stand in prayer with the Japanese people. Just accept that pa Zed fyonse fye fyali dabwa
