SFH bemoans low condom use in the country

Share

Society for Family Health (SFH) has disclosed that statistics for condom use among non regular sexual partners in the country currently stands at 54 percent.

SFH Partnership for Integrated Social Marketing (PRISM) Director of Programme Operations, Charles Kalonga said this means that the remaining percentages of sexually active persons are not using condoms resulting in the increase of the HIV/AIDS and other Sexually Transmitted Infections.

Mr. Kalonga was speaking during the launch of re-branding of new maximum condom promotion and award presentation in Lusaka last night.

He reiterated his company’s commitment to working closely with the government and private sector in promoting healthy behaviour through social marketing.

Mr. Kalonga has since urged the men folk to consider going for male circumcision as a way of protecting themselves and their partners from spreading HIV/AIDS and STIs in the country.

He, however, encouraged men to take up the challenge of going for male circumcision and continue using condoms adding that the fight against the pandemic can only be won through concerted efforts.

Earlier, Society for Family Health Executive Director, Mannaseh Phiri presented awards to two journalists, Masuzyo Chakwe of the Post Newspapers and Kennedy Ngondwe a freelance journalist for their role in highlighting issues of HIV/AIDS and male circumcision.

Dr. Phiri also awarded RCF Investments of Matero Township for selling over 5.3 million condoms and Bank of Zambia for being the most consistence buyers of condoms for its employees.

Recently, Society for Family Health (SFH) Zambia, who are producing and distributing the male maximum condom in the country, re-launched a new version of the condom which it described as strong; triple tested, and does not break.

The new version of the condom is a three (3) ply lubricated latex condom.

  1. Abstinance iliche. Lets stick to one sexual partner. Condoms are not 100% safe and promotes promiscuity. SFH is just a business venture striving to increase comdom sales.

  2. So 46% of non regular sex partners are doing it live. This is very dangerous. The figure is too high and
not realistic. I do not believe this SFH computation

  3. Well that is why HIV levels are not going down. Munasheko ubuchende. Condom or no condom, sex before and outside marriage is wrong whether you are a christian or not. I beleive these statistics because many people who are sexually active that I have spokken to have told me they only use the condom the first two to three times after which they resort to live. God help us.

  4. There are 33,300,000 of HIV positive single people worldwide. If you are one of them and you are prepared to become a little brave then You may find that POZmingle. com is just for you. For you will come across new individuals who will certainly become life long friends or Love of life and achieve a degree of self-belief you never would have believed possible.

  5. In at least ten countries, more of the circumcised men have HIV than the non-circumcised. This needs to be explained before advocating circumcision.

  6. @ #8 I agree, it is most irresponsible for SFH to advocate male circumcision as a way of protecting from HIV/AIDS. Circumcised people can still contract the virus!

This advice sounds a bit like Jacob Zuma saying all you need to do is wash-up a bit after….

    @ # 1, abstinence – LOL!

  7. hey SFH,wat if these pipo are wise and they are just abstaining and masturbating?were do u even get these figures?how do u kno that mr. so & so ate LIVE?stop boza & shut up ,we kno u are in business.

  8. this is wat happens wen u tell iiliterate pipo that wen ur circumsised u cant get the virus.so they have even stopped using rubbers.live yekayeka chabe !

  9. Nubian Princess, u seem to have some experience with the so called 30 second guys. just explain how that ties in with condom usage so we can understand. I am interested in meeting. how can we link up

  10. No. 9, actually male circumsicion is being promoted with other HIV preventive measues like Abstence, condom use and remaining faithfull to one part. Actully studies have shown that the chances of transmitting or aquiring HIV is reduced by as much as 60% if you are circumcised. Surely if this is true i think combined with other preventive measures, this is very powerful…

My only problem with the statement from this SFH guy is that when stats are showing that HIV infections have dropped worldwide this guy is saying “…this means that the remaining percentages of sexually active persons are not using condoms resulting in the increase of the HIV/AIDS and other Sexually Transmitted Infections”. I dont think this is a true statement. It is infact careless. He should have checked his…
