Munali Member of Parliament (MP) Mumbi Phiri has complained that her effort to work with government to deliver development in her constituency is being hampered by cadres who have allegedly restrained her from completing certain projects.

Speaking to ZANIS in an interview, Mrs. Phiri disclosed that her plans in construct ablution blocks at Kamanga Market, Chelstone Tank Bus stop and at Chelstone police have failed because cadres from a named political party have allegedly obtained an injunction to stop the construction.

She said the construction project and sinking of three boreholes which was to gobble about K650 million was stopped for reasons she declined to state because the case is in the court of law.

She said so far, about K150 million has been used on the incomplete structures and sinking of one borehole in Kamanga.

Mrs. Phiri said she has made an appointment with President Rupiah Banda and was waiting to be granted opportunity to see him so that she could explain certain pressing issues in the constituency.

She claimed that she and other opposition MPs were willing to work with government to deliver development to the people of Zambia but were not given an opportunity to do so.

And Ms. Phiri said she has embarked on constructing a wall fence at Kalingalinga basic school and Chamba Valley School in order to block people from vandalizing school
property.

  1. The artical doesn’t make sense. Why not mention those cadres and the party they come from and if you can’t mention the cadres, why publishing a hanging story?
IFWE NI PABWATO AND SATA COME RAIN COME WHAT WEATHER.
VOTE SATA IF YOU WANT CHANGE.
BEWARE OF SMALL TRIBAL CLUBS WHICH JUST SPLIT THE VOTES.
MWAMUKOLO,PABWATO, ON THE BOAT COME 2011.

  2. Who told this Preschool teacher that building pitlatrines is development?your gay boss bragged about changing LSK’s face in 90 days and you have failed to build 3 toilets and fences in 1825 days.Time has caught up with you eh?I bet this is the last time we are seeing such a low calibre MP in Munali.

  3. Iam baffled. This is when she is wants to work with govt when her term of office is almost over. All along she was busy petty-fighting govt by honking and all sorts of misbehavior not befitting an MP.Is damage control or admission of waning popularity?

  4. K650 million for three boreholes! Really? Not long ago I paid less than K50 million for my borehole complete with a large, heavy duty submersible pump, switch gear, surge protection, phase protection, 7500 liter tank, polypipe, armour cable, and even a pump house to secure the gear. For K650 million I’ll see your three boreholes and raise you four!

  5. Ba *Academic Warrior* you are so incensed with supporting Sata even when he openly opposes developments. We bet you will suffer a most serious heart attack soon. Mrs. Mumbi Phiri is merely revealing entrenched inner-feelings running in the minds of many PF MPs whose talents are being thrown off the boat by Sata’s selfishness. When PF cadres begin to ingore the plight of their MPs, then the stormy sunnami is yet to hit the boat in the middle of Sata’s imagined Pacific Ocean. By-the-way, who invented a boat that runs on dry land?

  6. Madam Phiri these developments at the cost you have quoted are very much inflated. a building such as a toilet can not cost that amount of money. what you need to do is grade the raods in your constituency now that the rain season is over. the remaining change buy beer for your cadres. you will need them deuring the election this year

  7. bullocks. I live in her constituency. She has done nothing. In the past 5 years is that all she planned to achieve?

  8. Hmmmmmmmmm………………………its expensive to build in Zambia huh! All that money just for a bore & ablution block.I built a nice big house in Chalala with a borehole under K250 million.

  9. No.12, exactly – these are politician prices!

I don’t suppose you heard about the Zambia minister for roads who was visiting his counterpart minister in Italy? The Zambian was over for lunch one day and was stunned by the luxury of the Italian minister’s house so asked how he could afford such a thing. The Italian said – see that road down there? Well, 50% right here in my pocket.

Next year the Italian minister was visiting Lusaka and went to see his good friend for a return visit. Incredibly, he found the Zambian’s house was even more luxurious, complete with a diamond studded swimming pool and all the trimmings! The Italian asked the Zambian how he could afford such a thing. The Zambian minister replied – see that road down there? No? Well, 100% right here in my pocket!
