THE 70-year-old Mongu man whose leg was amputated in Mongu recently died of severe body infection resulting from a wound, medically known as sepsis.

Mwiya Sihope was released from custody in the aftermath of the January 14 violence in Mongu, after spending time in detention in connection with the violence over the Barotseland Agreement.

The cause of death is contained in a medical report submitted to the Ministry of Health by authorities at Lewanika General Hospital.

“The likely cause of death of Mr Mwiya Sihope is sepsis,” the report says.

The Post newspaper has in the last few days been reporting that the amputation of Mr Sihope’s leg was connected to his 56-day detention at Lusaka Central Prison on a treason charge.

But last week Inspector General of Police Francis Kabonde said when Mr Sihope was released from detention, his legs were intact.

Mr Kabonde said Mr Sihope was admitted to the hospital for asthma-related complications, which later forced experts to amputate his right leg.

  1. So according to ‘Dr Francis Kabonde’, his Asthma caused the Sepsis!! Hope the Drs at MOH will tell the nation about the chances of asthma complicating into Sepsis versus the chances of detention in a filthy prison cell causing Sepsis from an infected wound. We went to the same medical school with most if not all of those Doctors at MOH. Lets their take on this one.

  2. Then why has Gay Mmembe continued yapping about a man who was already dead?This gay has continued to use blind Lozi fellows like the late and the old Mututwa.He thinks he will sway the Lozi vote to his Snake.Headline after headline, its Lozi this Lozi that.Get a life ‘Queer’.No amount of propaganda will sway votes towards you and snaky.

    • VJ Rigger, every death has history and the death of this son of BRE has a history, and we know it’s Govement and RB. Not your gay partner, it’s unfortunate that you can decide to be shallow minded when a parent has died. No wonder, the police have killed two more people in mansa. By the way this gun culture is working against the govenment.

    • Rigger, you are upset and it’s understandable, but, who are you angry with? If it is not documented, it did not happen. No history good or bad for your great grand kids, is that what you want. Sweep everything under the carpet? Chill and be strong, vipeza amuna.

  3. Though still with two legs, man had gangrene at the time he was released from detention. Kabonde’s reasoning is hollow and defies even simple logic. Rupiah and his cronies in govt need to swallow their ludicrous pride and do the right thing to the people and families they have needlessly persecuted, maimed and killed. The harmful bacteria and toxins come in through the wound after the amputation for there are no antibiotics in hospitals for post surgical treatment

  4. Bo Inonge Sihope and Family,

    We plead with Jesus to console you in times like this. Never mind the mockery surrounding the death of our beloved father. Its difficult to stomach, but the Lord Jesus Our Saviour knows Our Real Valuable. A cloud again over Barotseland, but let us take a minute of silence in memory of our father and those who died before him. Bo Mwiya Sihope, sleep in Jesus’s hands but remember to smile with us when the trumpet sounds to awake the nations under the ground. Barotseland Shall Smile with You. Bye bye Dad. Mercy Be With You.

  5. Zambians I beg you to stop mocking the dead. You have your guns and all the state machinery but you will never kill the Barotse Spirit.

  6. Go to college. Get an education. Understand the law, the profession and our constitution so you understand your responsibility to the people and the trust you are granted – and to stay true to it, look online for “United Forensic College”

    Should you hatred for so called “gay” Mmembe lead to disrespect for man whose life has been lost due to state mishandling of a Barotse issue? This was sick old man who was not a threat to peace and order in the nation, yet he was arrested and mistreated in the dirt prisons. That’s how he condition became worse. Asthma cannot cause the amputation of someone’s leg. Show maturity and soberness even as you support your RB and his MMD. It is your right to support anybody or indeed any political party, and you don’t have do so by demeaning other citizens. This old man is dead because of police brutality and some Zambians hate for the Lozis.

  9. The blood for this old man of ours and many others has been absorded by the sands of barotseland. Yet shall we forever cry for their blood on the heads of Red Lips GK and Ala B!! This will haunt you for the rest of your lives. May Nyambe Angula accept his sacrificed life and come to our aide one great morning when our land shall be free from the influence of those that shed our blood and accept no responsibility for it!!!

    • We shall contiue with Kuomboka and red berets, Ala B fears Kuomboka very much that is why he would want a white beret

  10. How do you link the mans death to his detention medically? The Homo magazine is just using poor lozis to turn against the govt in their own selfish gay interests.They were hoping the Kuomboka would be chatacterised with violence,awe sure they were silenced.

    • that is why you shoot them because they are Poor…. it seems you are given a lot of junk food when ever you go to meet GK and Ala B such that you can not see any thing wrong. You are Like ZNBC TV and Radio who are over praising Ala B and insulting other People.

  11. “Mr Kabonde said Mr Sihope was admitted to the hospital for asthma-related complications, which later forced experts to amputate his right leg.” This is crap! Which Asthma complication could lead to amputation?????? Please revisit this statement otherwise there will be a misconception created about this ailment

  12. May the God i save place a curse on the arresting officer of Mr. Siyopi, this man at 70 years was harmless, only to be picked from his house at around 02: 00 hours on the night of 13th and latter charged of wanting to cut Barotseland from Zambia by force (treason). We buring him this morning and its very sad that the number of lives lost for the BA64 is increasing every day. I want to inform you MMD that you will continue killing this issue will not stop here!

  13. Mosi yanga must be a retard or indeed is just stupid to say the least. Am not a doctor but logic tells me that if you have a wound and its not kept clean it becomes septic. If you want to be lawyer please try that *****ic manarism in your own backyard. Its unfortunate that your limited intelligence or lack of it is leading you to believe that we (people) cant reason on our own accord and that it has to take GK, RB or The Post to tell us what is actually the reason for anything. PUNK!

  14. What a blow over !! how does asthma cause someones leg to be amputated, just accept the fall and move on!!
    compensate the widow and her family and be civilised about our failed system !!

  15. I dont know how many times this GOV has fed us with lies, this year i have seen what MMD can do just to protect itself. they accused a dead body they shoot and kiled that he wanted to set the BP ablese when he never had anything that could manufacture fire on his body, they reported that the rioters stoned an eleven year old boy to death when he was shot by police officer and the boy is still alive, we told that Mr. Siyopo’s asthma condition led to the aptuation of his leg when the truth is known. i can go on mentioning a lot of things. Politics is full of lies and the father of lies is the devil himself, so there are s*******……cs

  16. iwe CHI VJ Rigger, HOW DARE YOU TELL MMEMBE TO GET A LIFE…what Life?? Mmembe’s Life is 100 times better that YOURS..be objective in your BARKING and RANTINGS..its you who should get a life!!!! cadre mentality indeed

  17. Definition

    Sepsis refers to a bacterial infection in the bloodstream or body tissues. This is a very broad term covering the presence of many types of microscopic disease causing organisms.
    Description

    Sepsis is also called bacteremia. Closely related terms include septicemia and septic syndrome. In the general population, the incidence of sepsis is two people in 10,000.
    Causes and symptoms

    Sepsis can originate anywhere bacteria can gain entry to the body; common sites include the genitourinary tract, the liver and its bile ducts, the gastrointestinal tract, and the lungs. Broken or ulcerated skin can also provide access to bacteria commonly present in the environment. Invasive medical procedures, including dental work, can introduce bacteria or permit it to accumulate. Entry…

  18. Symptoms

    * Chills
    * Confusion or delirium
    * Decreased urine output
    * Fever or low body temperature (hypothermia)
    * Hyperventilation
    * Lightheadedness
    * Rapid heart beat
    * Shaking
    * Skin rash
    * Warm skin. RB kuya bebele

  19. Causes, incidence, and risk factors

    Sepsis is caused by a bacterial infection that can begin anywhere in the body. Common places where an infection might start include:

    * The bowel (usually seen with peritonitis)
    * The kidneys (upper urinary tract infection)
    o The liver or the gall bladder
    * The lungs (bacterial pneumonia)
    * The skin (cellulitis)

    Sepsis may also accompany meningitis. In children, sepsis may accompany infection of the bone (osteomyelitis). In hospitalized patients, common sites of infection include intravenous lines, surgical wounds, surgical drains, and sites of skin breakdown known as bedsores (decubitus ulcers).

    The infection is often confirmed by a blood test. But, a blood test may not reveal infection in people who have been…

  20. And that severe infection came by coz of the amputation that was caused by detention. the root cause of his death is Kabonde! and the chap wants 2 deny it!Get a life guys, it may be you next tym or relatives!Own up ZP and accept that u killed an old man

  21. Treatment

    People with sepsis usually need to be in an intensive care unit (ICU). As soon as sepsis is suspected, “broad spectrum” (able to destroy a wide array of bacteria) intravenous (directly in the vein) antibiotic therapy is begun.

    The number of antibiotics may be decreased when blood tests reveal which particular bacteria are causing the infection. The source of the infection should be discovered, if possible. This could mean more testing. Infected intravenous lines or surgical drains should be removed, and any abscesses should be surgically drained.

    Oxygen, intravenous fluids, and medications that increase blood pressure may be needed. Dialysis may be necessary if there is kidney failure, and a breathing machine (mechanical ventilation) if there is respiratory failure.

  22. The death rate can be as high as 60% for people with underlying medical problems. The death rate is somewhat lower in those without other medical problems. that poor man died because of the poor state of our hospitals

  23. Mwelupwa # 13,you rogue should read,where does the medical report state that his death was caused by detention.His death was unfortunately caused by the sepsis.Its really hard to inculcate common sense in you Poor Fellows…………Stupidity lies in the massses for sure.

  24. No. 8 THE CHOSEN ONE

    You are very right. There is so much hate for the LOZIS in this country that I am contemplating seeking asylum in Namibia.
    Imagine a panelist at the on going interviews at Livingstone school of nursing telling lozi candidates that they stand no chance of being picked as the school is not a LOZI school.

  25. AM SURE THOSE CELLS MUST BE INFESTED WITH BACTERIA.THANKS MILAR BJ FOR ENLIGHTING US ON THIS SAD AND UNFORTUNATE OCCURRENCE.

  26. indeed not only are you exhibiting immaturity but as Mpombo would say “you are a dangerous turncoat with a special skill in politics of the belly,self-political aggradisement by peddling lies, innuendoes and misinformation” need I say more?

  27. Mosi yanga # 24 indeed not only are you exhibiting immaturity but as Mpombo would say “you are a dangerous turncoat with a special skill in politics of the belly,self-political aggradisement by peddling lies, innuendoes and misinformation” need I say more?

  28. You people let us be logical medical people have said there is no connection between his detention and his illness. Some people want to play politics, why is that all people who were in detention not dead? Let us not spread message of hatred in Western Province.All this is propaganda by some vuvuzela newspaper

  29. Looks like Mosi Yanga has never been close to typical Zambian detention facility. were you at collegue, varsity? any time caught up in a viva?

  30. #2 – VJ Rigger, just like all other MMD cronies have lost it and seems they will survive on lying and intimidation. Well not this time around….. We’ve got no more time for you, as we look to the new government coming later this year

  31. I suppose now we are supposed to believe ba Kabonde. These govenment controlled newspapers have not improved since the Kaunda days. People are no longer as uninformed as we were in the 70s. Sepsis is blood poisoning. That would have made doctors to conclude that an amputation was necessary to mitigate complications. Of course he still had his leg when he left prison. It would have been better if this toilet paper had not attempted to insult the intelligence of Zambians.

  32. Too bad mr mwiya thats one of the costs of being poor. i cant truthfully vote for a lozi chap but i feel bad for the loss.

  33. Such a shame that Zambia is becoming polarized or is it just cowards being “brave” in posting insensitive comments.

    Though our democracy is old , the Zambia govt behavior is juvenile.

  34. problem insala, some people now just support so they can be given something. Selfishness or poverty? anyway think about our country just for once and make the right decision during elections.
