President Banda has welcomed the US government’s Intention to extent the AGOA beyond the year 2015 to 2025.
President Banda says Zambia also supports the US government’s new proposal entitled “Enterprise for development.”
The policy seeks to extend AGOA exclusive duty and quota free access to the US market for African goods.
President Banda was speaking when he officially opened the 10th AGOA forum in Lusaka on Thursday.
President Banda says Zambia appreciates the opportunity to host the forum which he says will broaden trade between Africa and the US.
He says so far AGOA has helped to create 300 thousand jobs in African countries and generated 300 billion dollars in exports earning to the USA.
He says Zambia would like to see more agricultural products being exported to the USA.
Mr. Banda noted that Zambia is currently looking for a maize market following a three million tonne bumper harvest.
The president praised the US government’s setting of the agenda of women entrepreneurship through AWEP.
He says the Zambia government has also placed priority to empowering women through various initiatives.
President Banda has further called on African countries to uphold democratic tenets.
He says peace and security are important for achieving economic development.
