2014 World Cup Qualifiers: Zambia Dates Ghana in Group D, Local League: Warriors beat ZESCO

Share

Zambia has been draw with Ghana in Group D of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers. The two teams will clash in the second round group stages when they enter the fray next year in a Group D that also includes of Sudan.

Group D will be complete with the winner from the preliminary round match between Burundi and Lesotho.
Winner from Group D will advance to the final third round stage where 10 teams will battle in a league format for the five Africa zone places available at the World Cup.

And Dick Ngwenya began his first day at the office at Kabwe Warriors on a good note with a 1-0 home win over Zesco United in a Faz Super Kabwe.

A text book tap-in from Mundia Makokwa in the 39th minute on the near left post from a Derrick Mulenga cross from the far right win handed Warriors the vital three points.

The goal was Makokwa’s first for Warriors since his K25 million move at the start of the season from National Assembly.

And the victory sees Warriors rise one spot from 14th to 13th on the table on 16 points from as many games played.
Warriors dominated a poor Zesco especially after the visitors’ caretaker coach Masautso Mwale made a tactical blunder.

Mwale took off influential playmaker Portipher Zulu in the 43rd minute for an ineffective John Chingandu who was lost in midfield the entire period he was on the pitch.

Zesco drop from 7th to 8th as Mwale feels the pressure in his first game in charge after Fighton Simukonda was fired on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Red Arrows maintained top spot on the table after a 2-0 away win over Nkana in Kitwe.

Defender White Simwanza scored a free kick in the 58th minute and a second from Dube Phiri in the 71st minute made sure Arrows stayed top of the table.

Arrows are on 33 points, two less than Power Dynamos who rallied to beat hosts Green Eagles 3-2 thanks to a Lottie Phiri brace that saw him increase his tally to 10 goals this season.

  1. Zambia ranked 74th in the world will do battle against the Black Stars who occupy the 36th slot. Naturally, this will be a toll order for the chipolopolo consinsidering the stature and organisation of the Ghanian squad. However this must not be taken to mean our boys are incapable of causing an upset especially that we have enough talent on the ground which we need to believe in, nurture and harness into a formidable unit that can compete with other soccer giants. With good preparations and organisation, nothing can really stop us from qualifying for Brazil 2014. We need a collective effort from all stakeholders to atleast for once get our team to the world cup. The last thing we need is Kalusha pulling on one side and Kamanga doing the exact opposite.

  2. Nothing is impossible we can beat Ghana and they are also scared of us.With good preparations and good team selection we can do it guys, this is our time 2 prove and represent ourselves.

  3. Ghana are currently one of the best team here but we don’t know if that will be the case in two or three years’ time. You have to go up against the best if you want to achieve something at a World Cup. There is nothing that can stop Copper bullets to achieve this. Otherwise, the CHICOLOPELO tag will not end. VIVA ZAMBIA, VIVA CHIPOLOPOLO.

  4. Totally my opinion Zambia seems to be scared when we play qualifiers on both north and west African countries,We can win Ghana in friendlies but not at that level even the amount of talent, skill, commitment, physical and exposure i dont know cause it is like all the time we feel they can win, they lose

  5. We have to go in with full optimism, no time to see negative. If we prepare well, it wont be a hard job to beat the Black Stars.

  6. Am not scaredf of Ghana. My major worry is Sudan. I can foresee two or more light soccer weights quailfy to WC 2014. Expect upsets in this edition.

  7. It the game of football people while we are so scared Ghana is worried and have started critical path analysis. To them preparations have started while we shall take years in a confused mode.I have seen manU loosing to wolves so on our day with luck and Gods favour on our side,1-0 will be enough. Come on Zambia stop seeing mountain before us,how do we climb it is the next stage.if we have lost hope on Ghana I suggest we give up because if we beat them be rest assured to face Spain, holland or Brazil so just as well we realise to be a winner we have to conquer the best, starting with Ghana.come on you lots let’s go for it with all we have.I will always believe in Zambian football.

  8. “And Jesus answered them, Truly I say to you, if you have faith (a firm relying trust) and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, Be taken up and cast into the sea, it will be done”(Matthew 21:21, AMP)

  9. Zambia vs the black stars. Even at home the best Zambia can achieve is a draw. There is no coherence in our team. We have not settled for a formidable team worthy talking about. I still do not forget how senegal and egypt massacred us at Nchanga stadium.

  10. WE SHOULD NOW CONCENTRATE ON 2018 WORLD CUP…THIS IS THE TIME I SHALL BE ORDAINED AS A CATHOLIC PRIEST… I AM REMAINING WITH 7 SOLID YEARS THOUGH I HAVE DONE 9YEARS SO FAR.

  11. Is Ghana a better team than Zambia on paper, Yes ! Can Zambia cuase an upset and beat them , Yes. If we give the the respect which is due and get organised hey can be beaten. They have the preesure as they are expected to win. Sport is about underdogs. Ali vs Sonny Liston, Buster Doglous vs Tyson. Maria Sharapova vs Serena Williams.

  12. and don’t forget what the boys did the last afcon when no one thought we would get out of a group yet we finished 1st with all the big boys….even with Kennedy’s comedic acts  :((

  13. History shows that Zambia and Ghana have exchanged fortunes when they face each other, and its always a thriller, this time around Ghana has a more solid side, but the Zambian team has also enough talent and experience to overcome this huddle,….someone should be more worried about Sudan, they are doing so fine: this is a good draw for Zambia as they have avoided the fever of travelling to north where they have not fared so well. I am a german and I love Zambian football, its one of the best on the continent, so Zambians think positive you can do it.

  14. Remember Soul 98 qualifiers. Zambia eliminated Ghana with the likes of Tony Yebowa, Abedi Pele and another group of good players. This would be the second time it ll happen.

  15. Its not Just Ghana , There is also Sudan. If we cant prevail over these two then granted – Lets not waste our emotions by attempring the World cup.

  16. Zambians can be very sometimes. They are not scared of Bafana Bafana (rightly so) yet they fear Ghana. I mean if South Africa was in  Ghana’ s group we were going to show them a thing or too. It is time Zambia lives up to her potential. You can’t be beating us and then be scare of West Africans, this goes for Zimbabwe as well. Many Zimbos believe they have better players than us (might be true), yet  they have nothing to show of it.Botswana is even preparing for 2014 at our expense. Come on Zambia! Do it for KK

  18. The ball is round, that is y Warriors beat Zesco. Its also the reason Barçelona lost to Almeria and Malta once beat England at Wembly. Impossible is nothing!

  19. I’m extremely inspired along with your writing skills as neatly as with the layout to your weblog. Is that this a paid subject matter or did you customize it your self? Anyway stay up the excellent high quality writing, it is rare to peer a nice weblog like this one these days..
