Energy Permanent Secretary Teddy Kasonso says the closure of Indeni oil refinery on October 1, 2011 will not affect fuel supply on the market.
Mr Kasonso says the TAZAMA Board of Directors is currently meeting in Lusaka to ensure that no disruptions in supply of fuel occur during the maintenance period.
He was speaking in Lusaka on Thursday when he officially opened a Renewable Energy Forum.
And Mr Kasonso says government is keen to see growth of Renewable Energy so that it helps reduce the national energy deficit.
He has also announced that Government has approved the blending of bio fuels with fossil fuels.
This means that all diesels sold at the pump will now have a five percent content of bio diesel.
And Biofuels Association of Zambia Vice President, Kamal Desai says the approval of the blending ratios will result in increased investment in bio fuels production.
He has told ZNBC News in an interview that currently there is already increased interest from Chinese investors in producing bio fuels.
Renewable energy represents energy generated from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, plants or geothermal heat.

how much is fuel per litre in zambia now? anybody knows?
Normal?? Kasonso, grow a brain
Closure for annual maintenance is normal. If you don’t do this you may end up closing it permanently if major breakdowns occur. I’m pretty sure you take your car for service during which time you don’t use it, i.e. it’s closed for service.
The closure of the only oil refinery in the country is not normal because it costs the country a lot in lost productivity with damaging effects on the economy.
There has never been a time when the planned closure has not resulted in fuel shortages country wide despite assurance after assurance from govt.
As a country we need to establish another refinery so that there is continuity of the much needed fuel. It does not matter the cost of putting up another plant. It is an inevitable and necessary project.
PF must set up a modern plant once in power.
People who dont know how a petroleum refinery work are always the first to comment exposing their ignorance. Why cant you just keep quite if you dont know anything?
So Teddy Kasonso went back to the Ministry of Energy as Permanent Secretary even after loosing the elections in Solwezi last time? I thought he had resigned his position. Ok!!!! that’s how selective the wheels of justice functions in Zambia. CHABWINO!!!!!!!
# 1 Chobolya,
Dont you have a single relative with a car to ask back home? How strange.
Its only an sms Kaso!
The great Chinese back to the rescue again. Long live China.
Brace for an increase in cost of fuel!
ZAMBIA NEEDS A 2ND REFINERY. ONE REFINERY FOR COUNTRY WAS DESIGNED BY UNIP’S ONE-PARTY MENTALITY, E.G. ONE BAKERY (SUPALOAF) TO SUPPLY WHOLE COUNTRY, ONE DAIRY COMPANY (DBZ), ONE MINING COMPANY (ZCCM), ONE SUGAR PLANTATION (NAKAMBALA) ETC.
I dont understand why the chinese have to come in the picture. Anyway, go ahead people, sell the country piece by piece.
