Late Republican President Levy Mwanawasa’s son Patrick has given a cold reaction to President Rupiah Banda’s call for him to return to the ruling MMD.
Speaking with Qfm in an exclusive interview in Lusaka , Patrick says he will not get back to the MMD adding that it is a foregone political party that has lost direction.
He says if President Banda regards him as his nephew, he should have groomed him in political leadership stating that the opposition Patriotic Front is the only party in the country that has embraced youths and women.
Patrick who is the PF’s aspiring parliamentary candidate for Kafulafuta constituency says his campaigns are progressing well adding that he is headed for victory.
He says people of Kafulafuta have realized that the MMD under the leadership of President Banda has neglected them as no major developments have taken place in the area since the demise of his father in 2008.
He has also urged Zambians not to believe what is being published in the public media about the MMD growing in support saying the reports do not reflect the situation on the ground.
He has since called on Zambians to vote for change of government in this year%u2019s general elections if the challenges they are facing are to be addressed.

And just to add on to what Mushota has said: How does Patrick now embrace a political party that made scathing attacks to his late father, in one instance Sata ripped a cabbage at a public rally in trying to show the crowd what he would do to Levy. In another incident he spent about 30 minutes at his rally speaking bemba sayings that were all vigorously attacking Levy and his health.. there are many more examples you can give, and this is the party Patrick goes to join, I guess thats why he tool so long to graduate from law school (thats if he graduated) – he did the exact opposite of what was taught in class

Patrick is a very good example of a youth in Zambia. Being son of a former Head of State he didn’t indulge in dubious deals like Banda’s children are doing. He has got into politics for a simple reason that he wants to be a part of a better Zambia and not plunder the few resources that this country has. In my personal view I think we as youths should support a good lad like Patrick whose had no issues even when his father (MHSRIP) was president.

Quite a political maze of world class magnitude. Out of necessity, the coming to power of RB created a bit of drama with some of former president Mwanawasa’s family and relatives, the likes of Mpompo and Shakafuswa. Those hostilities still rage. Hence the move to turn Kafulafuta, a once MMD stronghold into a PF stronghold. This is no small task and so the young Patrick, is the man with a stature to do it. He is counting on his father’s success story and the sympathy he can get from the people of Kafulafuta. RB’s invitation to young Patrick is calculated to cut into that sympathy by telling the people of Kafulafuta that MMD is still home, not only to them, but much more so to young Patrick. Meanwhile, young Patrick will not be deterred and that understandably so.

The campaign manager of the same Patrick could not even turn up in court to back up his allegations against James Banda on the day of RB’s administration. If Mpombo had anything against RB’s sons, surely the best day for him to make his revelations would have been the very day that RB was filing in his nomination for the republican presidency?
