The opposition Patriotic Front (PF) has challenged the United Party for National Development (UPND) to explain its connection to government for using government resources during its campaigns.
PF Secretary General Winter Kabimba says his party is in possession of irrefutable evidence that the ruling MMD and the opposition UPND are closely collaborating and campaigning in some areas against the PF.
Mr. Kabimba alleges that the UPND is now involved in the abuse of government resources through the use of government motor vehicles in its campaigns and distribution of campaign materials.
Speaking at a media briefing this morning, Mr. Kabimba charged that one of the vehicles used is registered GRZ 852 BX which he said was found collecting UPND campaign materials from a house used as the UPND campaign centre in Lusaka’s Libala stage 4A.
Mr. Kabimba says there is no way UPND President Hakainde Hichilema should be trusted with presidency when he has betrayed the people of Zambia with his corruption and greed.
And the PF secretary general has demanded the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to clean up the voters register for 2011 by removing all registered dead voters as well as to advertise the voters register in the press so as to enable voters know their polling centers to avoid fiasco during elections.

UNPD is not a branch PF and hence do not owe PF an allegiance to the extent that they should be held accountable to PF. We saw Kabimba on ZNBC News stating that he had evidence of UPND forming a pact with MMD against the PF. How would HH commandeer the use of Govt vehicles when such facilities are not available to MMD? Yet MMD is campaining vigorously for their own candidate Mr. Dyangamo in that constituency with a full knowledge that Southern Province is a strong-hold for UPND, Why should MMD form a pact with their rival. MMD is asured of a clear win in Namwala and Livingstone, but must work hard to capture Itezhi tezhi. The PF is ending up as a big laughing stock. Kabimba’s and Mwenye’s law degree certificates could have been bought from Matero.

The question one should ask himself before commenting is whether it is right for the UPND, which professes to be a clean party, to be abusing government resources. If the people commenting above do not see anything wrong with abusing government resources, then i can only imagine the kind of abuse that would be there if UPND took over the reigns of the country.

Mr. Kawimba (sorry I am Namwanga and I have problems pronouncing “b”) missed out important information in his report. He says GRZ 852 BX, that is he has the information of the vehicle registration and therefore he should know which ministry or department it belongs to. Thus he can find out the name of the driver and who is his/her supervisor. Transparency is important. he needs to say: Mr so and so (name the driver), was assigned by so and so (name the government official) to drive a government vehicle reg # GRZ 852 BX for the purpose of collecting campaign materials for UPND from Libala Stage 4A where Mr/Ms so and so (name house # and the resident) leaves. Tell us where the vehicle took the materials, within or without Lusaka?
This is too complicated for these Patent Fools! They have no intellect to pursue or investigate. They just run off their mouths like their boss, the SATAn. Just too lazy to think and take real, productive action.
As a person ready to form govt in less than 20 days from today, you should be able to have all facts before you give a statement. To me, this may be true, but it is rubbish because it is left for many interpretations and speculations. If you have facts lay them on the table for the people to see for what they are. Then the media can go and seek statements from the driver, the government official and the resident to get the other side of the story. Was it MMDs doing or the driver acted alone? So far, we do not know whether Mr. Kawimba actually knows what the vehicle was doing at the house or he just suspects because he knows the resident is a supporter of UPND. It is not illegal for govt vehicles to go to party member’s homes.
Maybe he used it with permission without telling the supervisor what he would be ferrying. There are a lot of maybes but this is less than 20 days from the election and PF needs to be releasing statements that tells me why I must vote for them? What they are going to do for me and how they are going to empower me to contribute positively to the country’s social change.
