Zambia Under-17’s victory over South Africa Under-17 this afternoon was overshadowed at the end by accusations by the visitors of age cheating by their host.
Zambia beat South Africa 1-0 in the two sides friendly international played at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.
South Africa coach Solly Luvhango claimed that Faz failed to provide adequate legal documentation that their players were all born after 1996.
“Am disappointed with Zambia. We agreed with Zambia that we shall use boys born in 1995-1996 now they are using boys born in 1994-1995 which is unfair and they know that. That’s why they didn’t bring passport but travel passes,” Luvhango said.
Faz however denied that they featured ineligible players but admitted that they had problems acquiring documentation for their players ahead of the friendly game.
Meanwhile on the field of play, Zambia dominated their hosts for over an hour led by the impressive winger and man of the match Ackim Mumba.
Zambia could have won the match by at least three goals had striker Kondwani Chungu not been clueless with what to do with the ball with every opportunity handed to him in front of an inviting goalmouth.
The hosts took the lead in the 31st minute through Dave Daka on the rebound after tapping-in the ball in a goalmouth scuffle after Chungu had hesitated with his earlier effort.
South Africa took the game to Zambia with the introduction of their promising midfielder Thando Maqhina of Diambas Academy in the 63rd minute who lit-up hitherto then a lethargic display from South Africa.
However, Maqhina was let down by his blunt attackers Kyle Harley and Ngcobo Siyanda.
Meanwhile, the victory was revenge for zambia five years after they lost 2-1 to South Africa in another friendly this time played at Arthur Davies in Kitwe.
Beaten fair and square. At the end of the day the better team won regardless of age. Get over it S.A.
If we cheated we should be asharmed of ourselves…but yet again FAZ has no sharm!
