Share

The Confederation of African Football today clarified the qualification criteria for next years Africa Cup of Nations to be jointly hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

Qualification Criteria (Orange CAN 2012)
The following teams will qualify for the final phase of the 2012 ACN:
– The team finishing first in each group.
– The team finishing second from the Group K (where there five (5) teams)
– The two best teams finishing second from ten other groups. (excluding Group K)
The two best second placed teams from groups 1- 10 will be determine by
considering their results with the teams in first and the third positions in their
respective groups AND not considering their results with the (4th) last placed teams
in their groups in order to permit Group F (Burkina Faso, The Gambia and Namibia)
to stay in the competition for the two best second teams.
In the case where Group k is reduced to four teams in the course of the competition,
only the first team of the group will automatically qualify for the ACN. The second
team will have to run for the three best second teams of the group.

  1. Based on this criteria, if I understand it correctly, Zambia’s next game against Libya is a must win, or at least draw game. We cannot afford to lose the game or we will not qualify. Assuming Libya wins and we are second at 12 points, only our games against Libya and Mozambique will count towards detemining ‘The two best teams finishing second from ten other groups. (excluding Group K)’. This will leave us with our 2 wins against Mozambique and 6 points to our credit – Not enough for Zambia to be among ‘The two best teams finishing second from ten other groups. (excluding Group K)’.
If we draw, we top the group and qualify. Libya will also qualify with 9 points from their wins agaist Zambia and mozambique.

  2. Note that Zimbabwe can qualify with an overall 7 points if they were to beat Cape Verde in their last game and finish second with 11 points for the group qualifiers. Based on this CAF qualifying nonsense, a group the finishes with 11 points from group matches would qualify instead of a team finishing with 12 points.

  3. # 1 you are such a good, sharp person able to add the statistics so well and aticulate them. Thanx man, keep your heard high.

  4. Zambia is on 12 points and Libya is on 11. What we just need is a win or a draw. A loss will take us back to the usual mathematical probabilities. Kukosa daddy

  5. Zambias only way of qualifying is to beat Libya or draw. Can we fail? We must remember that there is a thin line between success and failure.Best of luck guys.GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.

  6. So we have six points that count in case of a loss in the next match! Imwe ba CAF! Anyway Zambia has to pllay  to win and we should whack  Libya!

  7. It will be interesting to see both Zambia and Libya playing in their new Governments. The morales of people like Mbesuma, Katongo, Mayuka, Muzo, Nyambe Mulenga, Jacob Mulenga, Clifford Mulenga, Kalaba, Chansa, Kasonde will be very high because they are all Pabwaaaaaaaato. Thomas Nyirenda and Fwayo Tembo should be benched, they belong to RB. DB should not make a mistake to include Mudenda or Hachipuka, under fives.

  8. #16, very funny…..anyway with our usual poor planning this game will be held at yet another small stadium and not the ultra-modern one in Ndola because the access roads have not been completed. This game should have been in Ndola and we would have given the boys the best support ever…but as said, poor planning will lead to poor finishing and we might miss out.

  9. Should Zambia start the previous line-up on 8th October we will surely lose and should we loose on such a day then DERRIO BANQUENT should leave…. I dont like the way he presented the line-up start game against Comoros, He should be serious and if he continues substituting eligeable players like MBESUMA then BANQUENT DARRIO should go. GO GO GO ZAMBIA GO…

  10. KANSHI WE HAVE QUALIFIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Number 16, you are foolish. What is the name of the goalkeeper for Zambia. You are the kind of people who always think Bembas are above everybody. Try a Tonga president, this country will be like SA, USA within a short period of time. How long has SATA being in GRZ. Think upright.

HH is the kind of a President Zambia needs.

  12. Good one 16
PF is forming both Government and national team. The Tonga goal keeper should also be forced out to give room to young Mwaba. The last time I watched Mudenda playing, it was like he was chasing basune, very ineffective and Nyirenda was the one who missed the spot kick in the last AFCON against Nigeria after the PF team worked had. Eliminate these Tonga and RB players from our all star PF squad

  13. hai pipo let us not involve politics in football we wish the chipolopolo all the best libya will surely especially that collins mbesuma is back in form and playing well for his team golden arrows.
