Weekend Scorecard: Mighty Stumble in Promotion Race

“Mighty” Mufulira Wanderers poor Faz Division 1 North form continued over the weekend when they lost away to Kalulushi Modern Stars.

Mighty were beaten 2-1 at Independence Stadium in Kalulushi to slip on 39 points, nine points behind leaders Indeni after 24 games played.

The Shinde side, who are attempting to return to the top flight for the first time since 2005, have not won a game since mid-July have record three draws in seven games.

Meanwhile Indeni, who were last in the Super Division in 2001, a season before Mighty were demoted, beat Kitwe United 2-1 away to stay top of Division 1 North.

And in Division 1 South, leaders City of Lusaka revived their promotion ambitions with a 2-0 away win over Riflemen on Sunday at Independence Stadium in Lusaka.

City lead on 44 points, five more than second placed Luena Buffaloes of Kaoma who beat Big Roma 5-1 on Saturday.

  1. Come on Mighty! Put your house in order and go back to where you belong. We are tired of watching of watching nondescipt teams in the premership who have no history. Mufulira is full of talent, it sponsorship that is causing all this? Mighty veterans and well wishers should step in and help this legendary team. They should be in the premier league.
