PF’s pledge on Christian nation clause suspicious

Share

SOME clergymen have described as an act of desperation by the Patriotic Front (PF) to claim that it will uphold the Christian nation clause in the Zambian Constitution if voted into power.

The church leaders said it was surprising that the opposition party could make such a statement a few days before the general elections, when they were widely known to favour a secular State that tolerated gay rights.

Life Gospel Church Fellow Ministries International overseer, Joseph Kazhila said it was suspicious that the PF had left it so late to make a stand on the Christian nation matter and subsequently attempting to shed off its soft spot for secularism.

Bishop Kazhila said the PF had not been straightforward on the matter so a long time and that the u-turn did not help their cause much because the public could not be easily convinced. “It’s quite suspicious because it maybe part of their ‘don’t kubeba’ strategy of not telling us what they really stand for,” Bishop said.

He said it was even more worrying that the statement came from the party’s secretary general Wynter Kabimba, and not its leader Michael Sata. Bishop Kazhila said it was difficult for citizens to accept the position because Mr Kabimba could have been making his personal view known on the Christian nation issue.

“This party should have made their position known when reports came out over its support for homosexual rights and not to wait till now,” he said. He said the party would have to do more to convince the electorate on their position and that it would not be through a mere statement.

Bishop Kazhila said however that it would be encouraging if the party was being sincere and that it would be a starting point for them to restore some credence. He the PF needed to exhibit Christian values such as the rejection political violence so that it reflected their acceptance of the Christian nation clause.

The bishop said there was a lot of apprehension that the PF would only accept the September 20 elections results if they were declared in their favour but that all political players should accept the outcome whether they won or not.

And Global Training Network (GTN) Central and Southern African coordinator Barney Mulenga said the PF was desperate because they had no campaign issues to address and were now hoping to repair their image.

Apostle Mulenga said the PF was trying to win the support of Christians, who were the majority of voters in Zambia, by promising something that they could not guarantee to protect if they won the elections. He said the opposition party had realized that the MMD government had done well in its governance of the country and was implementing most of the activities contained in both the MMD and PF manifestos.

Apostle Mulenga said having failed to discredit the electoral process through various accusations on the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) and the MMD, the PF had realized that it had run out of time and was now making promises that it was sure would attract Christians. “The current republican president has delivered beyond expectation and a lot of people are happy that he was able to do it in such a short time,” he said.

And Bishop Kazhila urged political parties continue denouncing violence in the run up to the elections and beyond. He appealed to both the ruling and opposition parties to deal with any of their members who went against this ideal.

  3. Rigging or no Rigging MMD is carrying the day. W e shall use International tricks to wallop dem, sata is under5 wen it comes to winning elections. Actually is 3.5yrs electionwise

  4. This Christian nation sh*t is nonsense, what christianity is there in Zambia with so much evil, i.e. sexual immorality, corruption, political violence etc. To hell with the christian nation clause.

  5. Preacher preach the truth and nothing but the truth. If a person has said he doesnt support homosexuality and you dont believe him, then just keep quiet or else you will cause even the young ones to forsake the way of the Lord. Shall i remind you that no one on this planet is righteous until God says so. So why pick a prick from Micheal’s eye while the forest is just within your eyebrows?
Ba Kazhila i hope you are not the one from Chingola

  6. A mere declaration that Zambia is a christian nation without practicing the way of the Lord is nothing but hypocrisy. Let us be real and know that on this earth, there are places that dont mention the name of our Lord yet they live closer to heaven in terms of standard of living and job security, salaries are in time, the surroundings are kept clean, not the history of chingola which some have kept saying the cleanest town in zambia. look at singapore, south korea, japan, taiwan, canada and for those who think america is a christian nation, you are wrong. the only nation so far declared publicly is our country zambia but look at ubu hule starting from the law makers, i remember the late cameron pwele was clobered by the wife at national assembly motel because he used to slaughter a lot.

  7. PF is a known Satanic party.Darkness and light cannot mix. These chicken rally ritual morons should not be anywhere near the corridors of power.

  8. This bishops are not knowledgable enough to understand the word of God properly bcoz they google their msgs. If you go to Saudi arabia its a muslim nation & evry thing about Saudi is islamic, so why declare zambia a christian nation when we can’t practice christianity. If you declare any nation a christian nation then its ceases to be a democracy & becomes a theocracy. In a Theocracy God rules, does Kazhila understands this? My people perish bcoz of lack of knowledge Hosea 4v6 lets have sanity in the kingdom of God & refuse the so called bishops who can’t articulate the word of God

  9. God only has ONE NATION AND THAT IS THE CHURCH- abody of believers both jew and gentile whom he has made one.
You are a chosen generation a royal priesthood a HOLY NATION a peculiar people-the bible says and this was said to the CHURCH and not a country.

  10. And whats about your self confessed RB Muslim how is he going to embrace both Islam and Christianity? People are not going to vote based on Christianity but on principle. You are hypocrites who are partisan when you are supposed to be non partisan. You behave like the Pharisees and the scribes.

  11. What Christian Nation, whilst you have very corrupt crooks in power..only blind fools will rejoice Ka Chiluba was eating whilst hiding behind this same banner, you have a President who is married to a girl who we call first lady…just disgusting!!

  12. We have some clergymen who must talk just becauze they have a full belly and the ‘offeringz” are good, his kind of desperation iz very dangerous. God forbido!

  13. I do not claim to be God nor to speak on His express or implied authority; However, I do say Sata will NEVER be president of Zambia

  14. #21 Na Judah , who the hell do you think you are to make such a declaration, you re a mere mortal being, a sinner like me. Leave to fate and you will be spared the shock if it turns out otherwise.

  15. Ataaaa!!!! this Khazila is my neighbour who hides in the name of been a fake pastor. He has alot of tuma business & hides them, Explosion T-shirt printing, Internet cafe etc in Chingola his the owner. He also has music systems which he puts on hire for different functions & his house is mostly used as a venue. He rans his personal same church & was once accused of be involved in Satanism. He has connections from different countries aspecially USA & some of his children are studying there, were he receives financial aid in the name of a church & putting them to his personal use nowanda he hides hes businesses. They re not for the church no but hes.I wonder how hes even commenting on the issue when most of the times hes out of the country with hes personal businesses in the name of a pastor

  16. Some of these ‘christian leaders’ have double standards. There was an article in Zambian watchdog that stated RB is muslim and will not rededicate Zambia as a Christian nation. Where were they to clarify if that the statement was right or wrong.? Some Zambians may not act Christian but Zambia is blessed that we have leaders that want to protect our Christian status. There is so much pressure by the outside world to introduce secularism in the name of ‘political correctness’. These countries even ban crosses and Christian prayers in public places. Z leaders may not be perfect.. these ‘preachers’ should appreciate Zambia has presidential candidates who want Zambia to be called a Christian nation. Preachers should concentrate on praying and teaching Christian values to Zambians.

  17. Sata who is a satnist will never rule Zambia but die a depressed man , insulting till the grave like his people. the good book says you shall know them by their fruits, Satan or sata will his PF party is known insults as hooligans, bakaponya.

  18. You are busy talking about Christian nation bullshit, while mosques are been built all over the place in Lusaka and other major towns. When jihad wars starts in Zambia, no one will be talking about Christianity, we will be talking about terrorists among us.I wonder why we are busy welcoming moslems in our country when they are busy causing civil strife in other countries in the name of  their religion.
