PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda has said the Patriotic Front (PF) and its allies are looking for every excuse to disturb the September 20 general elections by questioning the printing of ballot papers in South Africa when such has been the trend in the past.

And President Banda has warned that he would not allow the PF to cause violence as the party is planning to do if he was re-elected.

Addressing a rally in Kapiri-Mposhi yesterday on his continued campaign trail, Mr Banda said schemes by those who wanted to delay the holding of the general elections next week would not work as Zambians were ready to vote. He said the printing of ballot papers was witnessed by representatives from all political parties who even commended the printing company, Universal Print Group for a good job.[pullquote]We have kept mealie meal prices stable and at a lower rate than ever while the price of fuel is now uniform,” President Banda said. He said the PF was only calling for change without well-defined party policies to match those of the ruling party.[/pullquote]

“Now those who were here are grumbling; we are going ahead with the elections because Zambians are ready to vote for their leaders. “At first they wanted the election date set and we went ahead to announce the date but now they want to try and find lame excuses,” President Banda, who was accompanied by United Liberal Party leader Sakwiba Sikota and other officials, said. He said his opponents, especially the PF, were scared of the successful campaign the ruling party had conducted.

The president said the PF had clearly indicated that its president Michael Sata was headed for defeat in this year’s elections. Mr Banda said the MMD had in the last three years managed to fulfill most of the promises it made during the 2008 elections.

He said during his tenure of office, he had managed to build schools, health infrastructure and that the agriculture sector had developed to unmatched standards. “We have kept peace together in the last three years; we have kept the inflation rate down; we promised fertiliser and other inputs which we have given to you.

“We have kept mealie meal prices stable and at a lower rate than ever while the price of fuel is now uniform,” President Banda said. He said the PF was only calling for change without well-defined party policies to match those of the ruling party.

“I believe in change that should bring about new schools, proper health infrastructure, good roads and a developed agriculture sector and this is the change the MMD is already delivering and Zambians are able to see it.

“As a result of our clear policies, more investment is coming into Zambia and so Zambians should not experiment by voting for Mr Sata and his party which has no clear policies. I have only been in office for three years and my works are showing,” he said.

On calls for violence when PF loses, Mr Banda said he would not let Zambia get to such levels because its citizens were firm believers of the tenets of democracy which provided for people to be allowed to elect their leaders peacefully.

“Threats of violence are coming from people who don’t believe in democracy. You can’t threaten people to vote for you but you have to ask for their votes. “We don’t want campaigns of threats, insults and of sharpening machetes,” he said.

He said only the MMD had a national character and that was why it had fielded parliamentary and local government candidates in all the 150 constituencies countrywide. Mr Banda said the MMD had outlined its works through the seven-point plan which stressed how it would better the living standards of Zambians.

The president introduced the MMD candidate for Kapiri-Mposhi Laurence Zimba, Jane Chileshe for Kabwe Central and Godfrey Pende for Bwacha. At the same rally, Mr Sikota said Mr Banda had fulfilled all his campaign promises and that he was more reliable than all the other candidates.

  1. We have said this for over 2 years now and evidence of unsophisticated schemes holds strong. But be blatantly warned that all hopes and schemes to push for a useless form of unconstitutional Grand Government of compromise other than mandate driven will not happen in Zambia. Losers will never succeed with their unsophisticated schemes of coercing the people’s Government to form a Government through deals other than electoral mandate. As in case of Zimbabwe and Kenya bearing unnecessary burden of blown and economically unsustainable useless establishments all just after tax payers’ money, the same will not happen in a democratic Zambia.

  2. The Zambian constitution is the framework in which Zambian political parties function and derive their mandate from. Our national constitution has a “Supremacy Clause” over delusions of sole losers. Even by 1 vote difference, the electoral act as enshrined in the national constitution has a winner takes it all Supremacy Clause and this delivers mandate. Therefore, dreams of forming a bloated Government through arranged deals of compromise other than what the electoral mandate confers is not only delusional but constitutional,  treasonous and acceptable by conscious citizenry of the Zambian enterprise. Therefore, PF’s kaponyalism is in deep self delusional overdrive.

  3. This said, there is empirical evidence that PF has schemed templates of violence and murder against Zambians with hope of coercing voters to condone an unconstitutional bloated unity Government with Sata as its Prime Minister. Because Zambia is a constitutional republic with a functional democracy and an all involving electoral system administering tripartite elections under peaceful circumstances, mischief will be choked, rejected and exterminated with precision in best national interest. The winner will take the ruling mandate and tax-payers’ money meant for national development will not go to serve a bloated Government formed out of acrimonious compromise deals PF so wishes to see happen in Zambia this year. Let losers wait for another 5 years for their 6th attempt on the ballot.

  4. Let sole losers take defeat with dignity and realize that any wishful scheme to kill Zambians with machetes they have been stuffing could instead be a scheme to exterminate themselves. The blood of a Zambian is sacred to be sacrificed in the Pf satanic  rituals of PF  launched at public rallies.

  5. THE PF CANT WIN THESE ELECTIONS..AND SATA WILL NEVA BE PRESIDENT EVEN IF HE STANDS 100 TIMES HE WILL NEVA WIN…ITS LIKE THAT.HE HAS STOOD 4 TIMES AND 96 TIMES TO GO HE WILL NEVA BE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF ZED NEVA….MY FAMILY AND I ARE VOTING FOR RB….NAFUTI…..NAFUTI

  7. THIS IS THE WORST AND MOST CORRUPT PRESIDENT I HAVE EVER SEEN….YOU CANT PRETEND TO SAY THAT UPG IS NOT CORRUPT AMIDIST OVERWHELMING EVIDENCE THAT THE STAKE HOLDERS HAVE PRODUCED….WATS YOUR INTEREST IN A CORRUPT COMPANY?

  8. only stupid people would say Rupia Banda is corrupt the big man has exhibited maturity in the running of this country. he has never insulted despite recieving insults from Chi sata my vote will goes to MMD this year and Elias Chipimo in 2016

  9. These elctions are not different from the previous ones, the Bemba Vote of Luapula Northern and Copperbelt urban will go to Sata in addition to Lusaka Urban,Southern and part of North Western will Go to HH.The rest of the country will unite behind the movement for multiparty democracy, the only party that has demonstrated that leader can change and come from all walks of life without disintegrating the part. This the party that was once ruled by someone from Western,From luapula when it formed Gorvernment for the first time, from a central and copperbelt hybrid and now by someone from Eastern.Who knows where the 2016 leader will come from?If you have any dreams of becoming a leader, this is the party to join as it guarantees not only change of leader but also leadership from all walks of lif

  10. The Man of Action, Once advised former president Chiluba MHSRP to dethrone the Litunga of the Lozi kingdom, Us Lozis we no longer trust him and we will make sure that we will not vote for him. We will only vote for him once he explains to us why he did that. He hates us so much but he will pay togather with Bo Inonge and Membe.

  11. #14..
Please, do not insult the intelligence of the Zambian people.
Who are you to deny on behalf of rupiah that he is not corrupt when he has said he is and actually encourages corrupt practices as a model of governance?
We may belong to different parties but let us be serious and united on national issues like corruption that rob our country the much needed development. We only have one Zambia

  12. Rupia, over my dead body you will not win the elections not matter how much you will try to rig. You are the one who will be delt with whether you lose or you rig. Continue conforting youself man.

  13. Rupia is a very wreckless man who should never be allowed to rule this country any longer. Any well meaning Zambian has seen that. Only those with blind loyalt will not see. This country will be reduced to a shell should we allow this man to continue to rule for the next five years. Him and his tandem of thieves are going to steal everything and nothing will remain for you. He has already told you that he has so may constituencies to please hence he can not fight coruption. This is the reason why he can defend UPG even when he is seeing the evidence published in the press. This man is selfish. Lets kick him out.

  14. I was just wondering, did the UPND hold a Convention to elect its leadership before these elections? Nobody seems to talk about this, in case I am behind.

  15. Iwe chi Senior Citizen uli mbwa, na chi phiri # 14 go f-u-ck yourselves you bleeding swines na chi RuBish chenu. The time wil come when you thieving scum bags will pay for your corrupt ways Teku mona Chiluba. busy mocking Gods people, that they will be crushed by God on account of him It was him that was crushed in the end. RuBish and you lot will be crushed no matter how long it takes.

  16. It is strange why pipo can not see the damage done by RB just in half a term. Given full term simply means back to the dogs. While the late was trying to leave a positive legacy the man is the opposite. Thats why we need PF to put things right and establish a bench mark which will be the refernce point for time to come.
