MUZ requests Mining companies to declare next Tuesday as half day to allow miners to vote

Share

Mine Workers Union of Zambia (MUZ) has appealed to mining companies in the country to allow their employees to exercise their right to vote next Tuesday.

MUZ Acting president Charles Mukuka says all mining companies should consider declaring the Election Day as half day to allow all miners to cast their vote.

Mr. Mukuka said this in a statement released to ZANIS in Kitwe on Wednesday.

Mr. Mukuka further appealed to the miners to ensure that next week’s elections are held in a peaceful, free and fair atmosphere.

He urged miners to vote for parliamentary and presidential candidates that are going to spur the country to greater development, peace and stability.

He says the country has been holding peaceful, free and fair elections in the past.

He says this time again peace should be guaranteed by ensuring that all leaders of participating political parties lead by example and denounce all forms of violence.

  1. Half day what for? Are you going to compensate the owners for lost time? What happened to development? Ever heard of postal votes? I bet not. Not even Senior Citen has ever heard of that.

I would be livid if an ***** from a toothless union suggested that if I was the infestor.

    • Firstly where are you blogging from? Which cave? Whilst you are thinking about that…have ever thought about which industry may have the highest number of registered voters on CB?? Do you know what row the mines played in  Zambia’s political process before and after independence?? iwe kabuudo go ask you parents, then come back when they change your diapers….

    • Please use vernacular if you cannot express yourself in English. Your last sentence is a true reflection of your capacity to think.

    • KATONGO…Lets be realistic when making comments..postal votes in zambia? even if we seem to have traveled a bit lets be objective and make comments that makes sense according to the environment in which elections are being held and respect where we come from..zambia(third world).

  2. PF are busy seculating a document in town that will instill fear in people that the govt tries to bomb some polling stations so that wen pple scamper they use it as an opportunity to rig. That spread a rumour that mambilima has died or that something bad will happen so that they scare ppl from voting. PF are so desparate for power that they seem to have forgotten that politics is about adding value to people. All they want is power and looting and not people. They are also planning confusion in barotseland. Zambians be warned. Sata is sick

    • Seculating? Is this a new word? Please do not write English in Bemba. It is CIRCULATING. Are you one of those who got education from the Minister of Bed Wetting?

    • You have just laid bare the very MMD strategy on or just before election day.
Remember MMD practices politics of self immolation.
We are not scared of such empty threats. We are focused on remove a corrupt regime that is out of touch with the needs of the people

    • Please Please Please…where are you getting those useless rumors from? Worse still, you even posy them..what are you using to think…

  3. Let Tuesday and wednesday be  holidays  for pupils  and students, because  most of the schools (and learning institutions) are polling stations. For my fellow workers, we can make special arrangements. sampule; Uluchelo baya fwatika bambi, elyo bambi ichungulo. Mukuseeee

  4. Mukuka, idoit why half day you MMD bootlick, the day should be full holiday. uleya naba MMD, We need new and honest pipo at Katilungu House not you mambala, now AUSTIN LIYATO is gone we will see who will protect you.

  5. Voting is a democratic right for everyone(no exemptions) so every one deserves a full day off on the day of voting (whether they will be voting or not)!

  6. Stupid thinking…. If we had a public holiday for FTJ’s funeral, why the F&%K should there not be one on Tuesday for voting?

  7. # 2 Katona. The owners of those mines will not have productivity if elections are not conducted well. Be reminded that they are doing their business in OUR beautiful country. It is our RIGHT to vote. Big economies like SA declare holidays on voting day.

  8. It was the Sata/Kafupi MMD administration that tried to assassinate KK and rodger Chongwe in Kabwe. It was during the Sata/Kafupi Administration when KK’s son was killed in some strange circumstances. It was the Sata/Kafupi administration that Barred Kaunda from standing in the 96 elections claiming that he was a foreigner. It was Sata who once asked Kafupi to relegate the Litunga into a non-entity. It was Sata who was an informer to the colonial Masters, snitching on Freedom fighters and sending them to Jail and to Death. Sata is a cleaver crook who has gotten away with a lot of crimes. Next week he is going into retirement. The Police should see to it that he does not destabilize the country on his way out. VIVA HH VIVA RB.

  9. TUESDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER 2011 HAS BEEN DECLARED A HOLIDAY FOR EVERY EMPLOYEE AND MINERS ARE NO EXCEPTION. MINERS ARE THE MOST ABUSED HUMAN BEINGS BY FOREIGNERS. PLEASE ITS YOUR DAY TO EXERCISE YOUR RIGHT TO GO AND VOTE THE WHOLE DAY AND SLEEP AT POLLING STATIONS TO WITNESS VOTE COUNTING. TIGHT MARKING IS THE STRATEGY…. UMO AZALILA, 6 DAYS TO GO
AND KATONA #2 YOU ARE A HYEANA, SILLY BAFOON!!!

  10. A FRIEND OF MINE WHO IS ACTIVE IN MMD CALLED ME THIS MORNING AND TOLD ME HE IS GOING TO VOTE FOR SATA.HE SAID HE DOESN’T WANT TO WASTE HIS VOTE COZ EVERY WHERE THEY BEEN FOR CAMPAINS, PEOPLE WANT PF.HE SAYS MOST RALLIES THEY HAVE HELD WERE ORGANISED BY MMD,BY FERRYING CADRES FROM DIFFERENT AREAS AND NOT LOCAL PEOPLE. HE SAYS IN SOUTHERN PROVINCE THE SAME PEOPLE WERE MOVING FROM ONE RALLY TO THE OTHER. HE WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED.Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii, dont kubeba!!

    • This is propaganda at its best. This election will be worn by HH or RB. Most likely it will be RB, because PF are acting as a spoiler against UPND. People have Rejected Sata everywhere in the country. Tonga’s cant vote for Sata. Lozi’s cant Vote for Sata. Luvale’s, Lunda’s Cannot vote for Sata. Lenje’s Cant vote for Sata. It is only the Catholic Bemba’s that will vote for him and they are not enough. Kaponya’s do not vote. Next week will be the end of Satan and the Beginning of a new Era in Zambian Politics….Mark my words.

  11. MUZ are fully aware that Sep 20 is a holiday, do you think they are so dull as to ask for half day even when it is a holiday? running a mine is not like running a bank or any other corporate entity, there are some operations in mines which if stopped could result in serious damage to the mine and result in serious losses. There is a risk of flooding or dangerous fumes accumulating if workers just stopped working without a plan.

    • Damn, so cool to be Zambian!!!It´s been a long time coming….
Now I can take a stroll right here on the Island with a tatoo of Zambia tatted on my chest,
especially after watching the 8pm News declaring her (Zambia) as one of the three African countries which has scord milestones.
      I just want to say thank you to;
Mwanawasa,Chiluba,Rupiah Bwezani Banda and last but not the least Vernon Mwaanga…..

  12. Stupid ***** u muz president,i thot u are atleast inteligent but alas now i know that u are so dull.y declaring the very day for casting our presious votes a half day for working when u *****s declared a holiday for buring ftj(let the dead bury themselves) and the likes.think twice b4 u make any big noise.

    • My friend surely its kind rich of you to call other folk those names when you yourself don’t come across as the sharpest tool in the kitchen cardboard. Where did you take your G7 exams if i may politely ask my dear friend??

  13. Take out RB and we can start a fresh with a good constitution, and our ZAMTEL back into our fold. MMD must be thrown out of office in order to safeguard our kids future. They are too money-centred to be responsible people for Zambia.

  14. Ba shetani tu MMD mulitunang’ani. Why holiday ba chimbwi imwe? Some *****s are talking about safety of children. Yeah right elections should be about violence then right? Imwe bakolokombwa all you want is a holiday so that you go mukunyeng* abena Dora.

Ba pushi kubomba. One of you is talking about SA being a big economy. Is SA a big economy? Compared to miserable Zambia yes.

Official if you are Mr Jere you should be working hard makandi yobe. Otherwise do not take up the position of a caddie.

  15. PA LICIBILI BANE …….NI DONCHI KUBEBA…TUKEME KUMALIKI NI PA BWATO BONSE,don’t waste your vote on those going abo abnensu ni Zwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

  16. The Ever Green Veteran politician and Diplomat Hon Vernon Mwaanga (VJ) wheather or not you like it,
is a shrewed politician whose intellectual capacity has been moderated by his diplomatic profession through interactions with a host of eminent world leaders.
Students and intellectuals have respect for VJ (FOOLS DON´T HAVE RESPECT FOR VJ,well, as usual!!)
because he has opened his mind to the public by writing honest accounts of his life and political issues related to Zambia.
He was one of the first Zambians to call for plural politics when they were voting for the frog on the c/belt.
Some Zambians couldn’t do anything to him so they put the devil on him.
    Rumours of rigging are ludicrous!……….

  17. Sichikolo I am sure you meant whether and not wheather. Punctuation classes might be helpful as well if you are going to brag.

  18. ….If you people fear him, just say you fear him. To hell with all these fairy tales!!
He without sin shall cast the first stone,
so you should check in the mirror, double check your appearance.
It’s amazing that he made it through the maze that he was in,
Lord forgive him, he would never have made it without sin,
Why should you gossip in the silly games?
To all the cowards and haters speaking down on VERNON MWAANGA (VJ),
mind your own business if at all you have any!

Keep your eyes off his cupboard……

Now,watch their eyes as people pull the trigger,I mean Watch the difference in calibre and intellect….
TO KATONA…THAT´S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU SPEAK ENGLISH,SPANISH,FRENCH AND RUSSIAN

  19. Judy no: 15 zambia is not malawi. Zambians are politically enlightened that is why MMD was losing by elections. also mutarika was not stealing from his people the way RBish and sons have been doing.

  20. Why is it these companies deciding and not govt? These companies are guests of the Zambian people and can not decide to make workers report for duty. I am surprised that there is an issue about this in the first place.:-?

  21. Give them enough time to go and plead for a Zimbo to rule them. After all, no single Zambian has the capacity to upgrade their dirty old village into a 21st century nation. Just look at their airport which looks like  a 16th century train station.  I will never waste my single dime on that backward village. Sorry but it is the truth

  22. I can see how Zambia is dancing to the tune of this inventors. guys use your half day wisely vote for a change,, we want them to start dancing to our tune and improve our work conditions. Sata will come under ground there at 01hr to see how his pipo are working believe me.

  23. SURPRISE SURPRISE!! A new article published by Tumfweko, talking about funny activities at Mikango barracks in the dead of the night & plans to blackout the country during the immediate period of casting votes, i.e. as results are being counted – it had been the latest article, with about 6 comments, probably lasted a few hours on the net, HAS JUST BEEN PULLED OFF THE INTERNET!!!! Tumfweko can you pls update & repost the article!!! Anyone with info, pls place it on the net!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. MUKUKA your days as MUZ acting President are Numbered together with Chishimba Nkole in MUZ. You two are staunch MMD foolish supporters. As Miners We shall deal with you after Tuesday. U have been in the forefront diluting Miners conditions of service and moles peddling lies against fellow UNIONISTS. You two were in the forefront to get Mbulu OUT as MUZ President so that you replace him (Mbulu) with yourselves. You two were used by Austin Liato. Come next Month you shal kiss Goodbye to MUZ

  25. I’ve read a few good stuff here. Definitely value bookmarking for revisiting. I surprise how so much effort you place to create one of these great informative site.
