The Attorney General Abyudi Shonga has clarified that the injunction conditions granted by the High Court in favour of his office did not stop or prevent the releasing of results by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).

The Attorney General disclosed in a Press statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka today that the ECZ will continue releasing election results diligently and steadily when and after the results have been verified by the Commission.

Mr. Shonga stated that after discussions between the parties cited in the court action, it was agreed that the parties should enter into a consent order whose terms are that, the Private media shall abide by the provisions of the Electoral Code of Conduct.

He said the private media agreed not to publish or air speculative results but only announce or publish those results that have been officially announced and verified by the Electoral Commission of Zambia, either through the Chairperson of the Commission or through Electoral Commission Returning officers at polling stations.

The Attorney General further reminded all State media bodies that the Electoral Code of Conduct also applies to them and that they should ensure that they abide to these regulations and provisions of the law as the results are being announced..

Mr. Shonga also called on all Zambians across the country on the need to maintain peace and tranquillity as the results of the just ended tripartite elections are announced by the ECZ.

He also advised political party leaders participating in this year’s elections to ensure that their members exercise patience during this process.

  1. My heart is bleeding with pain at what the MMD govt and ECZ are doing. I am sure there has been alot of temporing with results. They probably did not sleep.

  2. I AM GLAD AG HAS CLARIFIED HIS STAND. LET THE MEDIA OPERATE INDEPENDENTLY. IN ANY CASE THE POST WOULD HAVE DEFIED SUCH PARTIAL RULING. IT IS PF NOW. BYE BYE MMD AND REPAY WHAT YOU STOLE FROM US

  3. The most irresponsible media house is ZNBC. Where was Abuid Shonga when Chanda Chiimba was airing hate speach programme on ZNBC? Does he think this tension has just risen or it started rising a long time? Peoples anger have been building and have just been waiting for a vent through which to let go. You may not like Micheal Sata but the truth still remains that the man enjoys alot of support and you can not afford to allow any to just attack him like that.
Obviously MMD is shocked by the turn of events coz they thought it was going to be a white wash. Dont be stubborn, the late Bishop advised you but in response you sent thugs on him, Kaunda Junior advised well in time that if nothing is done this will be the bloodiest elections but instead of giving him the hear he was insulted

  4. WHAT LAW! 48HRS ENDED @6am,Results PLZ!!CRY MY BELOVED COUNTRY–Why the &black out Ba ECZ.Leaders who cheated Zambians by not giving them or enacting a new constitution-BILL OF RIGHTS,Vote them out & those who amended the Anti-Corruption Act clause 37 to steal-Bloody thieves!! Shame, the same leaders who cheated zambians are now begging for VOTES from the very people they cheated?Look at the ECZ blackmail..COUNTING 5mil votes to take two days?Thieves! If the director of ZESCO awards a big contract to his friend or to a company he controls ,that’s corruption!! why should the INCUMBENT,an interested party/ residential candidate continue being president, controlling KEY institutions including the ECZ up to the election day?And you expect a fair result? THE CONSTITUTION NEEDS TO BE REPEALED

  5. The truth is on everyone’s laps right now, it is now of waiting to see how foolish or not foolish the ECZ is and then BENGAZI

  6. The truth is on everyone’s laps right now, it is now a matter of waiting to see how foolish or not foolish the ECZ is and then BENGAZI

  7. RB stay put hope you have a cleverly done hole to hide unlike sadam Hussein , make it like for gadaf. Do not use the tunnel they are no longer safe Chiluba disclosed them.

Do not carry anyone not even the first lady, just enough water to drink. Sata can rule from kitwe
Or mbala. HH if it’s you winning you can stay in Monze or mazabuka.

  8. # It seems there a lot of pf MPS so how do RB work with these opposition MPs can some one who knows pls tell me how they will work.

  9. #19 Zambian MPs have no principles. They would join RB’s government if they are bribed. Their seats would not be declared vacant because the speaker would also be bribed as in the last parliament.

  10. I see Senior Citizen, MMD Chief Bootlicker et al have all taken a sudden sabbatical! I propose we give each other call a truce and review the position in a couple of weeks! The new GRZ would have started firing by then! MMD would have also then given us a definition of life outside Government. A Suitable Title would be: “HOW TO RUN AN ORGANISATION WITHOUT THE ORIGINAL MEMB@ERS AND ACCEPTING CHANGE.”
Right now we can only enjoy and celebrate the change! Donche kubeba!

  11. #28 their reasoning was based on hatred not the idea that change is inevitable……. and all MMD bloggers who called ba Sata names should continue blogging with not only congratulations but apologise please…

  12. As patient as a vulture he waited for time, never ran out of faith, believing in God that one day his door will be opened. INDEED IT IS NOW! Congratulation your Excellency, At last we feel relieved.
