The United Party for National development-UPND says it is in consultation with other political parties with representation in parliament on how best they will work together when electing the next speaker and deputy speaker of the National Assembly.

UPND Spokesperson Charles Kakoma says consultations have reached an advanced stage with the opposition MMD, FDD and the ruling Patriotic Front.

Mr Kakoma says as soon as the parties involved conclude discussions; the nation will be informed on the way forward.

He says the discussions also involves some independent Members of Parliament and further hints that the next parliament will be unique in the sense that there is no dominant party.

But MMD Deputy National Secretary Chembe Nyangu says he is not aware about the purported discussions among opposition political parties.

The ruling PF has 60 members of Parliament, MMD has 55, UPND 28,while FDD and ADD have one MP each.

The House will also have three Independent members of Parliament.

  1. This is the only problem with upnd they lack numbers but they want to lead. let mmd or PF take the lead. So if its upnd they want to take an upper hand in electing the speak. If their prefered man is not taken they may not coperate. Remember the pact issue they overrated themselves bt where are they now. A warning to MMd and PF to be careful with these tribalist

  2. THE WAY TO GO. MMD IS NOW A CLOSED CHAPTER IN ZAMBIA’S POLITICAL HISTORY. THEY HAVE JOINED THE RANKS OF UNIP. AS FOR THOSE MMD CHOLABOYS WHO STILL THINK THE PART WILL BOUNCE BACK, THEY MUST BE DREAMING. THE WAY TO GO IS TO ISOLATE MMD AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE BY UPND WORKING WITH PF AND THE SMALLER PARTIES. THEN MMD SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND IF NEED BE SENT TO PRISON TO SHAKE THEM A BIT BEFORE PARDONING THEM AND MOVE ON TO 2016 ELECTION. AS FOR UPND IF YOU CANNOT INFILTRATE THE BEMBA STRONGHOLDS YOU WILL NEVER WIN AT ALL.

    • UPND need only penetrate Central, Lusaka, Eastern provinces. Southern, Western and North-Western will provide UPND MPs.. They can forget the so-called Bemba stronghold which I take to be CB, Luapula & Northern. Sata did not win with a landslide he is a minority President with 43% votes. It is reflected in Parliament where PF are not in majority. 2016 elections will be interesting.

    • There’s a slight difference between UNIP and MMD. MMD has got away with more seats in parliament than UNIP did, so they are still somewhat present. Maybe let’s see what happens after the petitions.

  3. I once worked for an organisation where the CEO’s name was being invoked whenever terror was to be unleashed on employees. When I did the unprecedented thing of cutting to the CEO directly I realised how humble and human he was – and how shocked he got to find out how his name was being ‘wielded’. This is happening all the time everywhere. Sooo, if you really examine Sata I doubt you will find the demonic connotations that we are being fed day in day out by the haters…

  4. #Mulongoti , don’t fear tribalist, they do not eat people. Relax…..Look yourself inside, you might be more of a tribalist. Use your brain!!!

  5. I wonder why everything others say becomes tribal….People are sick ,before elections, tribal, you lose/win elections, tribal. Pls talk about something else!!!

  6. The issue of UPND and MMD forming a pact is a waste of time because whether we like it not PF will have majority indirectly. They are holding the instruments of power. Who is HH and Rupiah now. They have no influence at all to their MPs because the MPs want to deliver to people and they have to work with the party in power. Let us stop dreaming and live reality.

    • The Zambian Politics is almost attaining it’s maturity. I can really feel it flowering. Hope it bears eadible fruits and not venom. This is real multy party state of affairs. I only hope H.E MCS would consider including the comrades from other angles of the pitch, thus ADD, UPND, NAREP, Independent, etc and no one to be the goal-keeper in this case. I am so happy that UNIP also forms part of the multy party gvt. Once again Viva PF!!!!!!

  7. Upnd will win the Magoye By election so I suggest they stand Hikainde Hichi =lame just to afford him a chance to talk in parliament

  8. MMDs Nyangu has an insatiable appetite to comment on all issues. Where is the MMD spokesperson, Hon Dora ‘Ndaifulila Neke’ Siliya? She has gone mute. Has someone taken away the microphone and camera?

    • Awe she has found someone who is atleast touching her droopy boobs with childrenish thighs that have mumps. Ine ubusuma nshabumona kanshi ngamwalandako Catherine. Amatako kwati aba pama ARDs

  9. How you get identified depends on the level at which identification is being conducted. No need to tell an immigration officer at Heathrow that I am Tonga, you say I am Zambian which is in Africa. But the Zambian Immigration might ask your tribe and village if you look suspicious – you would say I am Tonga from Chitulika Village in Mbala (Tribe, Village, District, Province, Country, Continent are part of your identity).

  10. The problem with UPND they are always undecided.Had they agreed to the pact most of them could have been in government by now.Lets leave Sata to work and UPND should just talk in Parliament.

  11. The UPND risks becoming irrelevant to Zambian politics if they think they can work with the MMD to frustrate PF in implementing their programmes. PF has come into power with a popular vote, more than 200,000 Votes aor over 40% of the votes cast. In an elction with ten Presidential candidaes, including an encumbent, that as as much as an opposition Party can muster. So to play brinkmanship in parliament and propo up VJ as Speaker, forget about appealing to Zambians in 2016. Bottom line is Southern Province alone will never take UPND and HH to State House. People want progress, you refused to work together, avoid being spoilers!!!

  12. Please note that Southern Province is part of Zambia. Tongas are Zambians too. They are more Zambian than all of us. Please do not demonise them. Careful the way you comment or you create another Rwanda. We will take you to the Hague

  13. @Mulongoti waitaya mudala do not bring hatred in Zambia we may differ politically but we are one. to be honest you are more tribalist than tongas. keep that hatred to yourself……

  14. Its a good proposal from UPND but unfortunately, they do not have the numbers to get a Speaker from their end. Its simple, they are not the majority opposition and it would take super human effort to get people to agree with them, especially since PF has co-opted MMD members into their cabinet. I think that the speaker should definitely be from the opposition but I believe that MMD have a better chance of selling their candidate than UPND. We will wait to see what the outcome of this consultation will be.

  15. If I was in the PF, the best way to go is to float General Miyanda for speaker. He is known to be a calm and collected man, mature, he is not petty and I think would balance things up. I doubt any political party would object Miyanda for speaker.

  16. UPND are forgetting that PF and Sata are in control(BOMA).  Already, the president APPOINTED 6 MMD mps as Deputy ministers. (who is their boss?). The MMD MP in Chongwe has resigned. So UPND should not sound as if they have some upper hand in appointing the Speaker. H.E M.C. Sata has been in politics long enough and is very smart. Just wait and see.

  17. MMD now has 54 seats follwoing resignation of Chongwe MP who says he was just forced to stand and the people of Chongwe do not want him

  18. By the very fact that MMD and UPND are both opposition, they will in principle work as an informal pact, especially against negative policies that PF might wish to pass through parliament.
PF needs to fully understand that aspect.
Looking at the dictatorial tenets of the PF as a party, UPND and MMD will not close their eyes and think it is a day as usual; I think they will keep good vigil over the PF minority in parliament.
Getting together often by the MMD and UPND will be a healthy way to deal with the undemocratic ruling PF

  19. ERB dissolved! Now watch man of action sort out the mess left by corrupt MMD. They were inept and I agree with HE MCS.

  20. This man sounds like he wants to speak on behalf of our rulling party!!!!!!!! Hv u seen what is happening now? U as UPND said u hd no regrets over the pact but definately we shall watch u closely and dress your TONGUES!!

  21. MIYANDA for speaker let Mwanawkwitu have a position please :)

@ no # 24 Olympia Extension Chick my lost love, how are you in this new era? And what flag be that by your name? Thought you were in the US where I could easily find you mwe. Need an educated lady that can educate our children and cook bondwe lol :)

  22. All PF supporters, relax! PF is just a ruling party serving each and every Zambian at the moment and don’t feel like it is your own uncle in State House. Take it easy and just contribute to the development of the nation. Uku samwa sana kwati fi baiche…

And also, there is no need of labelling other political parties as tribalists when you are worse than them. It is not just fair, grow up and accept that we are all Zambians. Bena mbwa…

  23. It’s good the PF are in the driving seat now. Just one caution to them, if they really need to succeed in building this country criticism is very critical. I hope they are not thinking of reducing the opposition to its oblivion. A balanced parliament is critical. To PF supporters it’s also important to realize that your government is in control now. Time for celebration is over. Just make sure that you track the progress they are making. If it turns that your desires are not meet you have the right to consider other options.

  24. Some PF supporters are immature and think politics is a football match where you just win a match and not benefit. A balanced parliament and an unbiased speaker is in your own interest unless you are a PF MP. These guys want to put up check and balances this is in your best interest. So shut up! if you cant discuss the issue at hand go and take a crap witth dandy crazy and your stupid song.

  25. These PF id.iots really have no shame! Your ugly Bemba President has just appointed a cabinet consisting of 75% Ministers from the Bemba speaking ethnicities and you still have the st.u.pid courage to accuse others of tribalism! eeish! We are under a Tribal Bemba govt now! This is a FACT you can never run away from ! You are the TRIBALISTS!

  26. Based on the comments I have seen from PF supporters so far. It seems that they are content just by having MCS as president. Development is not an issue for them. Is it because he comes from the North and is Bemba

  27. don’t cry foul by saying PF govt is tribalist. How do u expect someone from Southern province to be a minister when all mps are from opposition UPND? At least PF captured two mps in Mongu and am told one is in cabinet and the other one is provincial minister. So UPND CONTINUE to be in opposition. At least PF voted for Wylbur Simuusa.

  28. #36 and 39, then UPND is not tribal after all or the Tonga’s have migrated to North Western as well. They have seats in Southern, Western and Northwestern. They just need to improve elsewhere!!!!

  29. @ # 41, Mwanawakwitu, I am doing well love. Been a busy bee and took a break from blogging because tempers were flaring around election period. I have to give credit to LT, they have redeemed themselves very well but I hope that eventually some of the bloggers themselves will also follow suit. I am currently on a short term assignment in a little country in South Asia. I will be back in the US next week, so then you will see my flag change back. But good to see you on the blog as well, it feels like its been ages. All the best!

  30. CONGRATULATIONS HON. CHARLES KAKOMA ON YOUR RE – ELECTION AS MP ZAMBEZI WEST. THOSE TWO WOMEN WERE JUST THERE TO INCREASE THE NUMBERS OTHERWISE THEY HAD NOTHING TO OFFER. BUT ZIZILA MWATA REDUCE ON CHAVUMA WATER. THANKS ONCE TO ALL VOTERS FOR GIVING YOU ANOTHER MANDATE TO REPRESENT THEM. KEEPON MOVING MY MAN. EX SOLWEZI BOYS.

  31. @mulongoti,it appears tongas give you sleepless nights. You are the only one blogging on tribal lines.cant you stick to the given topic, what will you gain by attacking tribes, nothing. You belong to the old school.

  32. a journey of thousand miles begins with one step!! Pf will cry in parley! No bill will pass if upnd and mmd abstains!! Nyangu is too junior!

  33. Tribalism will not get Zambia anywhere. It can be a recipe for disaster. I think we need to start educating the masses about the evils of tribalism. Appreciate that it was not only one tribe that voted for the new Zambian President Michael Sata Chilufya, all the 73 tribes did their part to ensure MCS’s victory. Therefore, NEGATIVE blogging and comments are unacceptable. What we need to see on this blog and many other blogs is maturity and respect. We should try to advance sensible and pragmatic ideas that mean well for the development of a nation that is becoming a model of democracy and envy in Africa. We just have to love ourselves as Zambians for what we are. Peace to All Zambians!

  34. If Hon. Hachipuka had not left I would proposed he be made Speaker….looking around the task will be long and hard get someone everyone will respect…Sata should have kept a nomination in reserve to excercise it in such a crucial moment…by the way what has happened to Shaka…he has gone back to the Kraal?

  35. #58 just USA, yes all the 72 tribes voted for mcs but tongas with their ka under 5 president never did.By the way who cares whether this under 5 regrets or not having left the pact, the cruise liner docked at P1 while under continues in rear gear.

  36. Hey Mulongoti ! a little reverse psychology If you can decipher. I used my name above as a mirror image of yours. You are such a disingenuous egotist who thinks bemba is so superior and invincible ( a fidgement of your imagination) as evidenced by most your contributions. You like labeling everyone else with dissenting views from PF a tribalist. Fact, you look yourself in the mirror and you`ll see the true tribalist.

  37. It nice read up here.PF in power WE 80 jobs for our people CHINA,INDIA,UK,USA,BOSTWANA,NAMIBIA,FRANCE,BRAZIL,DR CONGO,MALAWI,TANZANIA,MOGABIZIE,KOREA,TAIWANI,KENYA,NOTH SUDAN AND SOTH SUDAN,NAGERIA,,Mpombo to China,Mulongoti USA OR UK.OUR HEAD MEN WILL THIS TIME BE PAYED FOR MORE JOBS,EVERY 10 HOUSE WILL CALLED A VILLAGE UNDER THE CHIEFS MINISTRY UNDER HON BO INONGE WINA.

  38. HH will never rule this country no matter how he tries….period, tongas must look for someone else the like of Late Anderson Mazoka (RIP)

  39. Oposition UPND aqnd MMD, be careful with ur pans if u want to give the taff time to PF by frastrating it’s agenda. It may happen like in Malawi where due to opposition opposed every bill the Governmrnt brought to parliament, Parliament was dissolved for fresh elections and you will reduce more numbers. Careful with SATA!

  40. These mambalas want to bring VJ as Speaker! We, as citizens, shall organise a march to block the move. VJ should be retired for good otherwise he will come back to haunt us with his “rigging” tactics which did not work this time around.

  41. 46 3/4 years into our independence and we still talking tribes? Get your head out of your butt! Haven’t you seen kids with names such as Mwanza Chileya Situmbeko? Don’t take us back.

  42. My TONGA brothers and sisters, why did you people deny me your votes? Why didnt you give me MPs? You people are too tribal. I won the presidency with votes from 72 tribes out of 73 because of your tribalism. You are carelesly tribal you people. Anyway are wish the worst in your future failures. It is sad you are tongalising even this site and especially Zambian Watchgalu.
If you campaign tribes and think tribes, you will always get tribal votes, not enough to beat me. Tongaz please, are you going to remain perpetually dull like that? Wake up from Tribal slumber. shaa

  43. Come on people let us give credit to HH . Little did he realise that the pact he abandoned was working for PF. But he needs to network if wants to be the president for this country. Votes from Southern Province are not enough just like those from Northern and Luapula for MCS or exlusively Eastern for RBB. HH try to penetrate the cosmopolitan Lusaka and Copperbelt provinces where no tribal inclination exist. My brother you will remain a victor if you break into these territories. It is painful to see how UPND is losing seats every passing election when we need formidable opposition. Kindly work on this or else you might miss 2016 again. Dont Kubambila Muswankwa

  44. @ 63 Corleone &67.You know, life is never short of paradoxes. When Mazaoka was alive you demonized and ostracized UPND, calling it a tribal party.  You used to say things like; you would not vote for Mazoka ,as you put it,” Akalenga ingombe shileenda mu Cairo Road.” Or he was a cattle rustler who stole wagons of cattle, ask your unorthodox shikulu MCS (Master of CircuseS). You further started the fad calling Central and Southern province people as Mumbwa mumbwas, a disparaging remark painting them as backward and therefore not fit to rule. In your bembaland microcosm, you think you are the only ones anointed and leveraged to rule Zambia, you are wrong. By the way in a true democracy we need a strong opposition to curb the excesses of the incumbent regime.

  45. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE lets NOT HAVE A DRUG LORD AS OUR SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT OF OUR DEMOCRATIC COUNTRY!! THIS WILL BE THE BIGGEST NEGATIVE AFTER HAVING COME THRU AN ALMOST BLOODLESS ELECTORAL PROCESS!!! IF UPND REALLY WANT TO BE BURIED FOREVER, carry on & support VJ!

  46. I wonder if UPND would be as it is now if Mazoka was still alive. It has now become a PACT forming party. May be next time it will be UPND/ FDD and then UPND/HERITAGE. What are you looking for?

  47. Hakainde never wanted to be in the pact with sata, now that sata is the president, he want to start dsturbing him,i thought HH is man of high caliber.UPND should think twise b4 making such a dicision, we dont want political paties that will be a stambling block to our new govnment.
