Choma Central UPND Member of Parliament Cornelius Mweetwa has welcomed the moving of the Southern province headquarters from Livingstone to Choma.
Mr Mweetwa however said that the pronouncement should be backed by a programme to put up modern infrastructure in Choma.
He says the central position of Choma will enable government to effectively distribute developmental programmes in the province.
Mr Mweetwa was speaking with ZNBC News after President Michael Sata’s opened the first Session of the Eleventh National Assembly yesterday.
Mr Mweetwa said that Livingstone was not an effective administrative center because of its distance from some districts in the Province.
President Sata in his Key note address to the first session of the eleventh National Assembly has announced plans to move the Southern Province Headquarters from Livingstone to Choma.

Would be good to have a nice real city in middle of this province – develop agro industries…
Action now please! This good intention has been a dragging plan for a number of years!
Distance is not a factor in moving the headquarters from Livingstone to Choma. Chipata is at the border and will remain as a headquarter for Eastern Province. It has been Sata’s wish to move headquarters to Choma for a long time. He has to build structures that will house government departments and that calls for a lot of money.
Good development if only we would develop Choma!
Kitwe is hub(center) of the copper belt. will the same apply? Kabwe is more central than Lusaka will the nations capital change?
Kitwe is boring period! Oh! dream on.
Good point No.3 and 5. Thats not really a priority at the moment and technically it will involve Monies being spent..what a waste.:-?
Try looking at it positvely. Is there any development that takes place without spending money? Putting up the new infrastucture is part of development. I stand to be corrected.
When i follow the sense of the speach, Choma is a good plan. Then livingstone becomes a tourist capital taking visitors to other destinations. If the MMD wanted to build a palace and airpot at the same time, then money is there. please let us wait and support the move.Besides Choma is already a central bussiness center.
why???????? what does choma have thats attractive to tourists? it needs alot of reconstruction.
you are so fresh man, really fresh just like off a banana boat
its a good move.Just as it is a good move to divide northern province into two provinces. This allows expansion of idle districts to active cities.
but chinadesigner ka new state house nichikali thats why RB was tempted to have a go at it
the move is okl
I want a big stadium in Choma, So that I can go and sale my peanuts when the games are on.
Good move. Proper design of the district should be done.
Am a Choma resident but the moving of hq to Choma ll jst be on paper. There is no infrastructure in Choma tht can qualify it 2 b Southern province headquarters. If he is 2 build, where ll da money come fro cz already da country has lots of pressing issues. He ll ve 2 build govt offices n houses,an airport, stadium,High court, bigger police station n all infrastructure tht qualifies a town 2 be provincial headquarters. It wont make sense if all the high offices remain in stone then we call Choma provincial hq. Sata is a great talker. ITS JUST SAME AS SAYING MOVING DA CAPITAL FROM LSK TO MAZABUKA OR KABWE.
#8what is the relationship btn a provincial capital and toursm?Have read any english books in terms of gramma and word constraction?
I agree with #3,Chipata is at the edge of Eastern province so why Livingstone?
Currently does choma have all the infrastures to house all the staff that will be moving. The economic downturn is on and it is wise that the PF govt. uses the resourses prudently. The most important issues currrently in Zambia is poverty and Corruption.Stop wasting money on name changing and shifting HQ’s.
Cornellius ..you spot on man..we need new infrastructure..lets not just talk without action..good move..
Moving the the headquaters to Choma is a very good idea. The driving force for new infrastructure will be the need to have those structures. Naturally infrastrucure will mushroom faster than you think but the most important thing is to ensure good planning before hand.
SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATASATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, , SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA, SATA,
dat sound lie a good plan. But we want to see real change like we were promised, not ifya kulanda landa fye but no action. tik tok 64days left.
Is this a priority sure? And if the reasons given were valid, then would it be logical to move the capital of North-Western from Solwezi to somewhere more central? We all know the main reasons, Tongas resent their capital being Lozi speaking and this way their tribal bigotry has been quenched, by Satan. But at what cost to the tax payers!
Conilious Mweetwa is an intelligent man. I commend him on this. But I know that other less intelligent beings do not agree with the president’s move.
This is a waste of Tax payers money. MMD/UPND plse stop this wastage of our money.
