10-month baby shot, survives

Share

A 10-MONTH-OLD baby girl was shot in the arm in Ndola’s Twapia township on Saturday as baby-snatchers struggled with her parents. And police in Ndola have launched a manhunt for the three armed thieves who shot the baby.

Copperbelt acting commanding officer Milner Muyambango said the shooting happened around 22:00 hours. “Police have since launched a man hunt for a group of three people that were putting on black attire and masks, who confronted a couple and tried to snatch a baby from them around 22:00 hours in Twapia,” he said.

Mr Muyambango said after failing to grab the child from its courageous parents, one of the suspected bandits shot the baby in the arm. He named the baby as Queen Mwelwa, who is currently admitted to Arthur Davison Children’s Hospital.

A check at the health institution by a Mail team found the baby in a hospital bed. The baby had a bandage on her right hand, but was playing normally under the watchful eye of her mother, who was standing by the bedside.

Lucy Mwelwa, the mother of the baby, said she and her husband were going to visit a sick relative when the bandits attacked them. Mrs Mwelwa, who was in company of her husband at the hospital, said three people confronted them and tried to snatch the baby. She said the couple struggled with the suspected thieves and after the assailants failed to grab the baby, two of them ran away.

Mrs Mwelwa said the bandit who remained shot the baby’s arm. “I heard the gun shot, but I only noticed when the Chitenge material became wet because of the blood from the baby after she started crying,” she said.

  1. May these cockroaches rot in hell.
They are venom of the highest kind.
BRAVO to the parents of Mwelwa for being courageous and god bless your daughter.
Every bandit comes from a family, community, friends etc and shielding them should be as punishable as committing the crime itself.

    • I agree, there is more to this story. Can our good reporter please make a second visit and establish the true story behind the shooting of that baby? honestly, you can never go out at 22hrs to visit a sick relatives, come on! Parents please say the truth, what exactly happened?

  2. No 2 I concur with you. This story is incomplete and rather suspicious sounding. The parents where out visiting a sick relative as late as 22hrs and these bandits decide to still their baby out of all other babies!! Why?

    • The day your bululu will be dying at home in a shanty would u not be to see them at 10pm?
Try & be objective not just comment for the sake of it…

  3. Very sad story indeed. Thank God they didn’t manage to steal her despite attempting to murder her. Get Well soon little girl.

  4. This is the end of the world now, as thieves have stoped robbing vehicles but resort to Innocent babies. The little girl is very innocent from the father or mother’s sins, to suffer the consequences. Allarhu Akbar (God is great)!!!!!!

  5. Interesting story this is –its a good thing the baby survived. It would be interesting to know why armed people would be interested in snatching a baby though… I could be wrong here, but this almost sounds like an organised crime –its almost like a movie.

    • Watching too much movies mr? These people want to rape Babies with the myth it will cure them of aids… This myth is very much promoted by the satanist who wish to eradicate our people’s think deep, if the boers had their they would cleanese SA of you lot to make it White only if they give all kids HIV mite as well kill our future

  6. But why snatching umwana? where is the world headed to? Its an open secret that we a headed for disaster – th environmentally and abantu animal behavior!

  7. But why snatching umwana? where is the world headed to? Its an open secret that we a headed for disaster – both environmentally and abantu animal behavior!

  8. satanism at work here. lets up up our prayers and fight the devil who is loose on earth.

thank God the devil failed yet again cos he is a liar.

get well soon young girl and God richly bless you.

  9. I am with you #1.

I hope that the baby and mother are being guarded by the Police now that the baby’s name has been made public, and their whereabouts have been identified, which I think is a careless way to handle a matter that has not yet been fully resolved by arresting the criminals.

  10. sickness has no time. a relative can be sick even midnit and family members gat to fing meams of getting to the patient on time. day or nite
