FORMER President Rupiah Banda says he is happy that this year’s independence anniversary has united Zambians while first republican President Kenneth Kaunda has urged Zambians to remain united just as they have been since the country became liberated 47 years ago.

And diplomats accredited to Zambia have congratulated Zambia on her 47th independence anniversary and called for the strengthening of bilateral relations between Zambia and the international community.

Mr Banda, who was in a jovial mood said he was happy to see Zambians showing unity during the celebrations at State House in Lusaka yesterday.

“This is one day that unites all of us, and precious to all of us,” he said. “I was already a young man during the struggle. So, it is good reminiscing for me,” he said.

Asked how it felt to be back at State House after the September 20 general elections that removed him from office, Mr Banda said “I do come here”.

And Dr Kaunda said Zambians must remain united just as they have been since the country became liberated 47 years ago.

Meanwhile, diplomats accredited to Zambia have congratulated Zambia on her 47th independence anniversary and called for the strengthening of bilateral relations between Zambia and the international community.

China, United Kingdom and Nigeria have also supported President Sata’s resolve to fight corruption and allow for developmental projects to take off in a transparent manner.

Chinese ambassador Zhou Yuxio said China will continue to have bilateral relations with the government of Zambia as a new government is a representation of the people’s will.

“China has been friendly with Zambia since its independence and this will continue with China bringing in more investment in the area of technological and infrastructure development,” he said.

Mr Yuxio said former President Rupiah Banda’s presence at the Independence Day celebrations sent a strong message to the international community of the maturity, accommodative and cordial relations existing in the country’s political system.

“That maturity has prompted China to increase its investment and also resolve any conflict that may have arisen, especially in the mining sector,” he said. Mr Yuxio said his government is engaging all mining firms being run by the Chinese to ensure that mutually workable solutions that will meet the interests of both the workers and the employers are arrived at.

And British envoy Tom Carter said the United Kingdom is hoping for a situation where Zambia could move beyond receiving aid and become an economic force in southern Africa.

“We are happy to see this level of development taking place in the country, and what we want to see now is that Zambia should be a top economic player in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern African (COMESA),” he said.

Nigerian ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello said her country has a lot to learn from Zambia in the areas of agriculture and tourism. “We want to open more room for investment so that we can learn more from this country, especially in the area of agriculture, since Nigeria is more reliant on oil as a main source of its income,” she said.

Ms Marcus-Bello said President Sata’s stance to ensure corruption is eradicated will create opportunities for the poor. “If there is no corruption, everything can trickle down to the people, and you will find that every individual will benefit from the wealth that the country has been making in the last couple of years,” she said.

  1. Love him or hate him, Rupiah Banda is a true statesman and a clear example of what good leadership is. I don’t remember Mr. Sata ever attending the celebrations at state house when RB was president. Even in light of the lies that Sata has been telling about RB, he still shows up with a smile on his face because he recognises that Zambia is bigger than him. History will reveal the truth about this man.

    • I can see you are so obsessed with RB. I will await your post after truth reveals (not far from now) he thought he was above Zambia.

    • You seem to have a serious problem that MMD is out. Get it clear President SATA is our president now and don’t judge as it takes someone in state House to invite his Friends?? If you see Sata is the only president that has really acknowledged all our former leaders? Did you see RB asking our first president to represent him outside Zambia? The way SATA did on Angola last week??

Be fair and don’t just condemn. Ask RB why people never attended functions? It was not their wish but MMD used to politicize all such events.

Give credit to President SATA, than being such a devil. We respect RB as our Former President so respect our Current Good President with the heart for all ZAMBIANS.

    • This Buffoon RB was a thief who partly contributed to the high cost of Living today never cared about you lot…very soon you chaps will be labelling him as an angel…how does someone accumulate such wealth in a space of only 3 years..wake up!!

    • I either don’t remember President Sata hauling derogatory staments at former president Banda except the questionable use of public funds. Some few months ago the public media slogans was all ‘insults’ about president Sata. It takes the one in a stronger position to reconcile with the weak. Me I give credit to president Sata. A lot of people still can’t believe how Sata would just look at Rupiah without retribution. Banda even said I know I will be arrested and jailed. Stop pretending and give credit where its due. Sata has shamed you and shown you how to live with others.

    • Don’t you remember the hostility of MMD and its caders? I do not think he was even invited at those celebrations. Even though he would have been invited, ZNBC would have covered him so negatively. Lets not just talk for the sake of condemning. Its hands up for H.E. MCS for the gesture and unity. Bravo PF.

    • You *****s (#1 & #3) must appreciate that the era of cadreism is now gone and that’s why your RB even attended the independence celeb. Have you forgotten so soon how William Banda used to harras anyone who opposed mmd thugs? What would have happened to our president SATA if at any opportunity such as at these functions, he mingled with the ruthless mmd cadres? Have you forgotten how Magande’s suit was tattered to pieces whilst he was a senior member of the mmd just because he opposed RB? Think twice before you write nonsense.

  2. RB give all the support to MCS let’s build our nation. We must also commend MCS for being accomodative. The Zambian people are a good people.

  3. Rupiya was a good dumb leader. Cobra never attendended independence day celebrations because he was hungry to get to plot one at all costs. he too is a good dumb leader.

    • “Good dumb leader” you are right, he was dumb!! Very useless, a waste of the sit of presidence of our country. I wish Zambians never again put a man of his sort in State House.

He can attend indepenedence but that does not change the kind of man he is- Very CORRUPT and SELFISH. He can smile- Teeth are just bones. He duped zambians ino believeing that he was carrying out Mwanawasa’s legacy that included fighting corruption. He is a snake and he would love to dupe zambians again by covering himself into a jovial mood as he attended independence. Let truth remain truth. That man is a thief and servant of his belly and his family not the zambian people.

  4. A heart attack took Sata to state house on return from South Africa. RB ever magananymous icon of statesmanship in fields of endeavors. Zambia is bigger than anyone. Leaders come and go but Zambia is ours to preserve.

    Salutations President Banda and Kaunda

Hands up to President Sata too for the symbolic guesture of staging solidarity with President Banda on a public stage and indeed putting up that choir of senior citizens at the event. Keep the country united and strong. leadership comes and goes. Leave the world a better place than you found it.

    God bless our country.

  5. RB ever magnanymous icon of statesmanship in fields of endeavors. Zambia is bigger than anyone. Leaders come and go but Zambia is ours to preserve.

  6. We salute u RB. your moöd at state yesterday touched me,that is despite all you have been going through since vaccating office. And truly you know Zambia is bigger than you as an individual. True leadership qualities indeed. God bless Zambia

  7. Don’t forget RB is also a diplomat. The interesting thing about diplomats is that they will be treacherous while wearing a smile. Matter of fact, when a diplomat says something, there is pretty little to say – when they say nothing there is a heck lot of stuff to say!!! Watch the space.

  8. #1 and #3. Muli fi puba. You cannot see that Banda is tyring to get into good books with PF !!! How does he explain the sale of Finance Bank with out documentation ? His Ministers being found with ama Njinga to bribe people ? Lexus cars for K3.6 billion at the expence of people stricke with poverty ? Meeting with Swiss gold scammer ? He has no option but to play to the gallery !! Sata never went to any of the events coz he did not have to kiss a.s.s ..

    • I hope you were there at the 3rd Term bid. Sata was found with huge amounts of cash he still has not explained its source. The Angolan arms saga – sata was a senior MMD govt official. So, if we went down that road, you’ll find that Sata is not the Mr Clean man you may want to believe he is.

  9. Imwe – Why do you keep saying Sata never attended Independence day celebrations at State House. Do you realise that you don’t just walk in there. It is by invitation. Prove to me that he was invited. Even if he was invited, MMD and the cadres where very hostile to PF and its leader MCS you know that. Why go where people don’t want you. MMD couldn’t even allow him to attend a funeral.

    • forgive them they don,t know what they are talking about, all they dream about is seeing president fail…..it shall never happen PF ni boma for another 3 terms

  10. Senior Citizen!! Long time no see. You are still around? Welcome come back. As one of your fans of your contributions , I greatly missed your posts. I hope you will be regularly from now on. There is no need for you guys to hide especially you and Mr capitalist. There are no PF cadres with machetes on the INTERNET, and besides they cant hack you online. At least I see MMD Chief fimofimo from time to time , looks like he is the last man left standing from among MMD cadres. We need your opposing views guys

  11. you are blind RB is rich and even in opposition he still will be rich.sata in opposition could not attend because of the pain of rigid elections . and we give a credit to allow RB to get closer but wait for the task force investigating the 4 billion , the zamtel sale ,the barose killings ,the gold scam etc etc etc then you will see that RB has a ground to smile from all these deals.

  12. That is what we expect from former Heads of State. Its amazing that Sata invited them(Banda and KK), and so great that they responded. They all made my day.May the Lord God Almighty bless the trio and also bless all Zambians.

  13. My point is one: Pres. Sata suck up to anyone including stupid) in the fight against corruption. and as many Zambians are like to kiss ass too much hence the countyry is in such a eonomic turmoil. Jail everyone who plundered Zambia’s economy and that includes) top on the list. Do not be fooled twamipapata ba kateka. Bring ba kabwala to book.  And to u pipo who write MMD engineered comments…please remember not everyone kisses ass like u do.

  14. @10 Mbuzi..FBZ breached the law in their transactions and by law they were supposed to be taken over by government or be sold. Ask anyone who has worked there in the past 5 years and they will explain to you. Its an act of corruption for Sata to give it back. And lets not be naive and gullible to suggest that there were no documents, surely in this day and age.

  15. You can now see how mature and accommodating is PF and Sata? The same RB was busy saying Sata will bring war in this country, alas, the man is uniting our people. Have you heard any PF cader ( kaponyas as you call us) harrasing anyone especially the press?
People of Zambia let us support this man, Sata means good for our country. Forget about tribalism and face facts. You can see even the comments coming from diplomats especially China. Very impressive. Well done Mr President.

  16. Attending independence celebrations does not make anyone a statesman, what is so special about him going to state house. Sata never went there because of the insults they showered on him by the likes of RB, GK and Dora. If you are a normal chap you will surely understand that it was very hard for man of Sata’s to dine with those corrupt chaps. Once the law visits RB he will shun the remaining independence celebration in the future! Sata is simply accommodating and since he took over the presidency, he has not avenged all those Mad Dogs who were pouring insults on him, RB was even saying Sata was not born from human beings. Let us be factual RB is not a statesman, he is a mercenary in a ship’s skin!

  17. Nobody insulted Sata. All state functions starting with Levy Mwanawasa Sata was invited and he he never attended. He never attended the funeral of the late Chiluba.Sata is just arrogant

    • Iwe stop being arrogant, did you want him to be abused at the funeral, don’t you know he received many threats from the Movement for Mad Dogs mercenaries such as the embattled William Banda and the company. What is so special about attending the independence celebrations anyway? Did you yourself attend any?

  18. You stupid people on this blog, dont you know that these two sinners are trible cousins? What we hear them say is obviously not what they are saying when they are two in private. Even if Sata calls Rupia corrupt and Rupia call calls sat cilisilu they are just playing cousinship. You will just hate each other for nothing! Wake up!

  19. no. 24 GRZ official.
don’t take things too personal. what problems do you have with the bembas. you mean they cannot be honoured for their merits just because they are bembas. You are living in a changing society donot be shallow minded and just think like someone who has never been to school. Education must help us to discern and appreciate the good values we encounter in others. You are not in zambia and yet the people you are staying with in S. A have welcomed you and allowed you to mix with them. Grow up and show us your maturity in thinking and do not take us back to middle ages.

  20. RB’s bright smile befits a Head of State how I wish our MCS could learn to relax and smile a bit more in public.

  21. @Mbuzi, you are really a ‘Mbuzi’ What does RB stand to gain by being with PF. You’re so damn. You don’t know that Sata stopped the probe on Finance Bank sale and ordered its return to ‘original’ owners. Documentation reveals that BOZ was right, but because the man made that ambitious promise to Zambians and Mathani, he had to destroy or conceal the evidence. Banda is a true statesman indeed.

  22. Politics te nkondo iyo !! I support a diffent party to my wife and daughter,my son supports a different party, the same with soccer but we leave together in one house!Thanx to multi party democracy and thanx to FtJ,Arthur Wina,VJ,Mwanawasa,AKA,Baldwin Nkumbula,Mulemba and many more. These are the true heroes of the Zambian revolution of which today and in future we can enjoy the fruits.GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.

  23. indeed mr mbuzi do you honestly think that there were no documents on FBZ sale? Everything is there but like it has been explained Sata made a promise to his funder Mahtani that he would give back the bank as a repayment so he had to make it happen. Luckily no money was paid but for Zamtel katwishi where we will get the billions of dollars owed to libyans for that company

  24. I continue to get amazed by the mentality of certain sections of our Zambian community. PF supporter to be precise. To come up with the notion that RB attended our 47th Independence celebrations to get close to Sata so that he can be let off is beyond me. With hindsight even
the most staunch PF supporter should start see that despite all we have been lead to believe through the joint machinery of the Post newspaper and PF (some of it may be true but yet to be substantiated) there is a true statesman in RB. There has been so much innuendo about his corrupt practices but he has remained silent until the Gold scam and like a true leader he only put the record straight. Who evacuated  Sata to SA after his heart problem? I seem to remember it was the MMD

  25. Am proud to be Zambian. The maturity exhibited by our President and Former Heads of State in the names of RB and KK should be commended. I salute you all for the love of mother Zambia – though plunderers have to be booked all the same!

  26. Fi pf let’s be fair, learn to give credit wer it’s due,Ka hh dint even attend coz hes gat a tennis ball on his neck!!rb despite the loss still showed up that’s a good man!!

  27. YOU CHAPS talking about SATA never attending the celebrations have short memories! Don’t you remember that MMD cadres acted as GATE MEN during such celebrations! Even at state funerals people could not attend freely! This just shows that PF is more accommodating! Don’t just follow what # 1 says, be original and analyse issues individually!!!

  28. Am ashamed of comments about RB being a statese man. He is just saying guys what they are accusing me of corruption i never didt. This is image building.

  29. Well well well, easy everyone life goes on.check you tone and language we are not a house in fire, this RB and Sata noise is not new,Chiluba and levy was the same it’s called politics they are just fooling you around, they will all die of natural causes not roating in jail. Have a life and work hard no one will pour money in your pockets just zip them and forecast for you families. Politicians are the same everywhere, they make noise to win you and as soon as you sleep and worship them they amass for themselves before you wake up and vote for another one.

  30. @ 1 For Progress: why spoil such a nice article?? You seem to have a serious problem that MMD is out.

A clear sign on how evil, greedy and corrupt you MMD Cadres became. YOU wanted everything to yourselves.

  31. Am ashamed hearing that RB is a states man. He is just “image building” himself. I wonder how many bloggers know and understand logic. No wonder so many stupid and un reasonable comments. How can a states man be so corrupt? Then it means so many survived on the national tresury in his rein. Guys no more shortcuts to contracts, bussaries, ……etc that u enjoyed in MMD.

  32. Some of you Bloggers are really shallow minded? You expected SATA to just attend a function at state house?? With People that surrounded RB like William Banda, Dora and team? Get serious; MMD never wanted Opposition to attend anything, including funerals of our former Presidents, kwati balalya??. What about Ukuli UMULYO na Mweee??

It is SATA uniting everyone not RB please give credit to Cobra. He is the man. RB was Kamwendo Munjila he wanted everything to himself.

VIVA COBRA. I am proud to be Zambian under my Lovely President.

“God please protect our President and Give him many more years” Let him keep up his wisdom and love for all ZAMBIANS AMEN!!!!!!! .

  33. You bloggers will just get tired blogging. Sata is in power now enjoying all the perks and luxuries that power has to offer. You can blog until you turn blue. RB will not be jailed so for those of you dreaming dream on. Sata is president now and will do what every other president has done. If I were you don’t expect your lives to change over night. Nobody in state house cares about you. You will continue to struggle with life so just get back to normal life. The rich will remain rich and get richer. The rich are comfortable and happy. Corruption will get more sophisticated. Blind fools

  34. Can somebody please convince me that honouring the DONT KUBEBA SINGER for his partisan song and even the band from Samfya was not a joke!

  35. Our brothers and sisters are being ripped off at the fuel pump because of chaps like this chi buffoon RB, who didn’t even bother to look into the national fuel procurement process for this country…this buffoon never looked out for you only cared about covering his fat backside.

  36. GOOD COMMENTS GUYS. I SUGGEST THE REASON HH HAD NOT TO ATTEND IS THE SAME REASON WHY SATA COULD NOT GO THERE. HIS EXCELLENCE WAS OPPOSING AND THAT HURT THE RULING PARTY. HH IS OPPOSING AND THAT IS HATING US THE RULING PARTY TOO. LET ME NOT BE TO PETTY.

    WHICH OTHER OPPOSITION DIDN’T ATTEND?

  37. This ***** RB needs to set as an example to all future leaders including the incumbent President that if you plunder you face the law end of story, we let the sly slippery crook ka Chiluba go easily, if you tolerate this rubbish we will NEVER stamp out CORRUPTION!!

  38. # 13 Chanda Beu,
I live and earned my education in the a constitutional republic. A country with the 10 Bill of rights. I fear nobody but God who gives and takes life. But of course i respect leadership and fellow humanity. Where they are found wanting, i swing with constructive criticism with dignity. President Sata has just taken power though with many boobs, it would not only be unwise of me but torturous on him to become too abrassive from the word goal. But be assured that as patriots we will define him hard if he continues in strangulating our republican constitution and curving on disdainfull impunity.

  39. RB is true statesman ,politicians argue in front of tv and
News ,but they will be having tea in the back room with
    No one seeing,

  40. We are all entitled to our views but to say Rupiah Banda is a true statesman is beyond me. He just like Chiluba is simply a calculating and manipulative man who knows which side of his bread is buttered. A statesman will not order the shooting, maimimg and killing of innocent and unarmed citizens for exercising their rights to protest peacefully. The list of his failings is long.
There are many reasons why the people of Zambia gave him marching orders from state house after only a megre half-term in office and this tells volumes about his poor style of leadership.

  41. #54
Look what the cat dragged in;  Senior Citizen himself to come and sing praises for his former boss!!LOL
Excuse for a minute let me attend to some pressing issues here and i’ll attend to you personally!!

  42. To LT administration.
You can delete as many of my posts as possible as .. frankly i have no polite words for this smiling BUFFOON RB.

  43. I think the MMD paid more than one person to blog as Senior Citizen. Earlier their comments were abusive disrespectful calling fellow blogers and Sata all sorts of names. Now their comments are beginning to sound weird as if they are from some hospital. But again I cannot blame them seeing what is happening to MMD members these days. With RB single sourcing the sell of MMD to HH.

  44. People should not forget that inviting those in opposition may be at the discretion of the Head of State while inviting former heads of state is protocol irrespective of your personal vendettas. Hence we have witnessed this. Not inviting RB would have cast Sata to more criticism and equally not attending would have had similar consequences for RB. Therefore calculated diplomacy can be seen to prevail and perhaps a conclusion that Mr Sata has for once heed on some advice or better still thought wisely of his position.

  45. indeed RB is a true statesman.i was proud of him when i saw him attend the celebration yesterday.I clapped for MCS to have walked with RB to sing with our gallant freedom fighters on stage, that was wonderful.Instead of being proud of ourselves as zambians for tha gesture yesterday,we want to continue insulting each other.the Goverrnment of day should not be allegergic to crtiscism and the opposition must offer constructive critiscism for our nation to go forward.

  46. It is in RB`s interest to attend state functions because he does not want to be seen to be at odds with the current government. After all the allegations that have been leveled against him, and his sons, it is right for him to attend in order to rebuild the relation with the PF leadership. President Sata has definitely not forgotten the time when his was gassed at the DEC offices. Vengeance and retribution are an absolute certainty and necessity. RB needs to be taught a lesson.

  47. @ Jay Jay, Why are you so bitter with RB as if Zambia is you or you are Zambia? Lets learn to forgive and forget. The way you show your bitternes is not good, moderate you anger my friend

    • How many of these crooks are we will going to forgive and forget; for how long, these people are no different to petty shoplifters…the only difference it lifters are dealt with swiftly whilst these vale criminals walk scot free!!

  48. Bloggers are just insulting each other for nothing coz Banda and Sata have always been pals. You and i like Mushota says must find a life and make money and not fold our arms and wait for state handouts.Lets face the real world courageously. We thank our forefathers for the independence and plural politics and peace. The ball is in your court.GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.

  49. if RB was not a former president ,iam sure he would have shunned the celebration but as a former head of state you have to above the ordinary life that most of u bloogers leave whether you like it or not .thats the reason you cannot see HH even if he was invited.as for honoring DOCHI KUBEBE ,he is with us here in the usa ,connecticut.may be it was done in absia.but he did tell me that state house had asked if he can stay till independence.

  50. # 1, 2. 3 and Senior Citizen, you guys must be so ignorant. Did you know that State House celebrations are on invitation? What if your criminal leader was not inviting Michael Sata? Did you want to make news out of him if he showed up without invitation. Instead of finding out why Sata was not attending the Banda’s gatherings, you throw gee in fire and start dancing necked for Banda’s attendance. You in fact must thank Sata for inviting Banda there after all he has done and said. Probably instead of celebrating that attendance, you should to celebrate his attendance of court sessions for corruption and theft.

  51. No 11 Mbuzi you are the one who is very stupid, very dull and backward. What has the buying of a lexus got to do with independence celebration. Dont you know that Sata and RB are very good friends and that RB will never step in any court of law over curruption cases.

About the sale of FBZ you dont know that Rajah Matan funded PF, Post and the defuct Zambian airways without following rules of game? This expains why he did not alow the Commission of Inquiry to continue or else Sata, Fred Membe and the Nchito Brothers to whom fools like you think that they are heroes would have been exposed. Pleease if you have nothing to say better keep quite instead of showing your mediocrity and stupidity. I reapet you are a big fool.

  52. All of you attacking HEMSC over RB attendance at state house on 47th birthday zambia, you are just a bunch of morons. Cant you think for a while that RB truely hated sata and felt him stincking and did never at anytime invited the big man sata for any celebrations? RB’s hatred towards sata was evidently seen in the likes of chanda chimba, gregory chifire, siulapwa, to mention bt a few. Micheal sata is a gentleman, and he said to himself, despite all the hates RB had for me, i will invite him for this big event. Big ups to HEMSC. Akaso fi mmd

  53. RB if a gentle man, forget about HH or whether Kaunda attended after leaving office is another thing, lets stop petty issues, its stupid to have the whole zambia do what PF wants comeon!

  54. i think its independence celebration, i hope ingorancant comments, ,RB is a GREAT citizen, he jst lost elections and accepts invitation from ppl who said all sorts of things during campaign, i know we r jst developing but the developed wprld dont personalises campaigns its all issues and policies thats why hillary clinton can work with obama coz the campaign was issue and policy based. so happy 47 Zambia.

  55. Attending independence celebrations at state house does not liberate RB from his corruption allegations, let the law take its course, period.

  56. The theoryb of scarcity! RB is scarce now, so we credit him with good leadership qualities. RB failed lamentably on all scales of leadership. The man was simply frolicking at state house when no chasing song, dance and wine. Perhaps skirts too.

  57. #71 Kalos2121, perhaps you are too sophisticated for me, I can never understand your reasoning. And I have noted that when you are challenged with facts, you conveniently take a low profile until everybody has forgotten. I particularly remember someone guiding you on the issue of Mfuwe International Airport, for example.

  58. # 78. what has Mfuwe got to do with Banda attending Independence Celebrations at State House? What is so sophisticated about that? Why do you want me to be here every time as if this will put food on my table? I specifically asked about State House invitations and if any of you wackos have any record about Mr Sata being invited by Rupiah and MMD government for such celebrations and he never showed up. Why don’t you respond to that question and in your pea brain manner you take a detour to Mfuwe. What kind of reasoning is that? Don’t you think you just confirmed exactly what everyone knows about MMD cadres? Lack of brains. What facts are you talking about Banda? MMD balesakisha ichililo chakwa Chiluba, how about where there is food? Do you think they would invite anyone?
