Jonas Sakuwaha is out while Felix Katongo is in for Zambia’s friendly away to Nigeria on November 15.
Announcing the team today at Football House in Lusaka, coach Herve Renard said he was aware of Sakuwaha’s profile but would be considered for future engagements.
“They are a lot of good player’s maybe he will be considered for the CECAFA Cup I am not sure,” the Frenchman said.
Sakuwaha is currently in hot form in Sudan with his club El Merreikh where he is perched at the top of the top scorers chart on 18 goals that have inspired the Khartoum giants to the top of the Sudan league table.
Meanwhile, Katongo has also been added to the team for the Nigeria friendly after also making the CECAFA Cup squad.
Katongo of Green Buffaloes has not had much luck in the Zambia setup due to poor match fitness.
Goalkeepers: Kennedy Mweene (Free State Stars, South Africa),Kalililo Kakonje (TP Mazembe, DR Congo)
Defenders: Joseph Musonda (Golden Arrows, South Africa), Davis Nkausu (SuperSport United, South Africa), Jimmy Chisenga (Red Arrows), Nyambe Mulenga (Zesco United), Emmanuel Mbola, Stophira Sunzu, Francis Kasonde (All TP Mazembe, DR Congo)
Midfielder: William Njobvu (Hapoel Kiryat Shimone, Israel), Thomas Nyirenda (Konkola Blades), Noah Chivuta (Free Stars Stars, South Africa), Isaac Chansa (Orlando Pirates, South Africa), Rainford Kalaba (TP Mazembe, DR Congo), Felix Katongo (Green Buffaloes), Clifford Mulenga (Bloemfontein Celtic, South Africa)
Strikers: Emmanuel Mayuka (BSC Young Boys, Switzerland), Jacob Mulenga (FC Utrecht, Holland), James Chamanga (Dalian Shide, China), Collins Mbesuma (Golden Arrows, South Africa), Given Singuluma (TP Mazembe, DR Congo), Christopher Katongo (Henan Jianye, China)
good names. we are unfortunate no names from the top leagues.
Is this the team that is going to face Demba Ba and Mamoudou Niang of senegal? Most of the players ply their trade in poor league like Congo DR and China, are we not that talented?
Poor ugly truth, are you aware that Mazembe last year beat Santos of Brasil in a very competitive competition? Are you aware how many times Mazembe has been Champion of Africa?
For some reason I have a feeling we will go far at the next CAF. There is no particular African team at the moment that should unnecessarily worry us. I think if Renart does his job well we could win it.
If we are warming up for AFCON then why include Mbola who is inelligible for the tournament?
I am not interested in whatever this monkey is to do..Leave the jungle for himand Galu to explore
we need to work hard on the playing tactics to be used at the CAF championship.
This coach Renard has no vision for the Zambian football seen from the way he is stuck to the team he assembled in Angola 2 yrs ago. Most of these players are aged and lack agility’ just like Ferdinand a and Terry in UK, He should be creative by branding the squad that will have both young and old players, Let him not be choosing names at the expense of performance. He has to choose players who are DOING WELL in the local league and professionals. why has he left out chintu and sakuwaha?
He has only been in the country for a few days and never had time to watch all players… ninshi guyz kanshi
Does Mbola’s ban make him in-eligible for international matches? .or its just at club level? I need clarification people
sakuwaha is a better option than felix. this chup has been out of action for sometime now and lacks fitness. this is the problem with going back to vomts, rena is bringing back the same chups he used to feature last time. things have changed now, they fresh talents that has emerged and rea should embrancce that. politics recycling and football also the same thing wats wrong with zed kanshi?
Can somebody explain why Jonas Sakuwaha is being left out??? I strongly feel he should be a regular in our national team considering that that he is highly skilfull and lately he has had a good eye for the goal not to mention that he is strong physically-just the kind of player you need for the national team.I thought with the coming of Renard, he would stand a good chance.Maybe there is more to it than we know.
I hope Kalusha does not have issues with Sakuwaha hence being sidelined. i see no logical in picking Felix and leave out Jonas
Same Ingredients different chef and expect different meal ? Thsi chap Herve never liked Mbesuma let us see how this works out!
Renard looks like a vampire in the picture above.
@8 I’m also wondering if the ban has been lifted otherwise the way I understand it is that he will even miss the Africa Cup finals.
This Renard is taking us nowhere. We’ve good players & a small time coach whose only motive is to improve his C.V & get a high paying coaching job elsewhere. Re-appointing Renard is the worst thing that has ever happened to our National Team.
#3. I do agree with you. I do have a feeling too. God bless our National Team.
My sincere hope that the boyz pickt will Zambia proud. I iz rather unreazonable to brood over thingz one haz no control over, but we are certainly not just looking at going beyond the knock-out stage!Â
he should have included Boyd Mwangelwa of Zaanaco, Bruce Musakanya of Red Arrows and Nyasha Kaya of Forest Rangers…
This is the same Renard who did a “moonlight flight” on us in Angola – he walked away on us at the eleventh hour! Why did we accept him back?? I do not trust him not to do the same again. We could not have picked a better candidate for the job from all the coaches who came forward? Its like taking in the vomit!! Where is our pride as a nation?
I am a critic of Harve Renard very much starting from when we played Togo at their home then Swaziland. Even when we played Algeria he lacked capacity to read the match in Chililabomwe he ran in short of ideas. I am supporting him just because he has my team in his hands. The chap became big headed in Angola. He doesn’t read matches throught. He hangs up in the middle of the game. He is good but far from being very good. Lastly, Sakuhaa is very good. I watched him in Angola. If still in that form or more, then call him. I am happy for Clliford Mulenga that chap is mine. Arabs are counter attackers.God bless our country Zambia.
In addition, the coach just fired ( Bonneti) was much more worse. Both are not that good. To me Patric Phiri is beter than the two.
All our players either play in SA or local, TZ etc Africa…… Jst thinking
So Mayuka who vowed not to play under Renhard has been considered afterall ? Ati wiponta bwangu.
WHY SHOULD PLAYERS TP MAZEMBA AND SOUTH AFRICA LEAGUE MAKE THE BULK OF NATIONAL TEAM. THE FRENCH MERCENARY HAS STARTED MAKING WRONG SLECTION WHICH SANE COARCH CAN LIVE OUT JONAS SAKUWAHA WHEN HE IS ENJOYING TOP FORM IN SUDAN. THIS IS THE PROBLEMS WITH RECALLS. WITH THIS TYPE SELECTION WE WONT GO VERY FAR. EVEN THE GREEN EAGLES THEY ARE TO PLAY IN FRIENDLY WONT BE AT FULL STRENGTH.
TP Mazembe is much better than the Sudanese team. Remember that TP Mazembe beat Santos of Brazil in a very competitive competition last year. sakuhaha plays in a very low league.
Renard looks like a cobra,, what happened in 2 yrs that u left us. Well i hope Kalusha is not influencing you on the choice of players, where is BILLY MWANZA mwebanthu?
#25 Billy Mwanza is finished!!!!!!!!!!!!!stop living in the past!!!!!!!!!!!!!thats why you z chaps keep making silly mistake!
Sometimes there is no need to blame the coach…… we jst dont have good players
thanks Kent @ 26. People cannot just realize that we do no have players of international caliber.
Felix katongo at the expense of a better player like Jonas Sakuwaha. Can somebody tell me what sin Jonas has committed aganist FAZ/Kalu, coz ever since after CHAN he is always left out despite his prowess. Bola ya pa ZED is full of **** on top of that we have no replacement in the event that Mweene is hurt. Kakonje has never impressed. We’re packing in the first round at the nations cup, with this baised selection of players. Ba Kalu ukutemwa ukulya mo.
Its really sad to see player like Sakuwaha being left out off the squad. Those of us who watched the last game will agree that players like James should be included in the squad. The chap missed three good opportunities face to face with the goal keeper and yet you still call him at the expense of a player firing from all cylinders(Jonas). When are we evr going to be serious about selection of players. After the games all we are good at is “sembe sembe”Jonas enzemo, all could have been weel.Give the guy a chance to prove himself. The Sudanese league is more competitive than our league,so for him to get all those goals its not a joke.
I would not complain much on a friendly with Nigeria to see how well Mbola and Felix will perform. There is a lot of games coming for Jonas two AFCON back to back 2012 and 2013. And also we need to play qualifiers in 2012 for 2013. Not also forgetting CECAFA.Rena has a lot of games to make a team. Chamanga misses too much, he made us reach penalties with Nigeria last afcon after coming face to face with the goalkeeper. He has done that several times after afcon always holding his head after missing. We want to see somersaults and not holding heads.
Felix Katongo in the team??? On what grounds??? And Jonas out??? On what grounds??? HR please be serious for once!!
Sometime back a blogger pasted a comment on this forum that ” Our boys are not fluent in English. So bringing a coach who is fluent in French but speaks broken English just goes to confuse them more” LOL.
Jonas Sakuwaha should be in team as he is in the form of his life at the moment. Good luck chipolopolo.
Lol
# 5 ukutumpa
OK…WE can go and PARTICIPATE and come back to our normal lives..
PARTICIPATION IS NO CRIME
So why the FUSS??
Zambians still cheering for the nation team now that’s what I call agony. Football attracts managers of class and vision; Zambia has none of that at football house nor the coach.
I can’t agree more with the other Gumu Gumu #15. Re-appointing of Renard was the worst thing the Galu executive has ever done in their reign @ football house. Surely do we expect that bunch of DRC based players to produce anything. These chaps will be jitterly when they face the likes of Newcastle forward Demba Ba, Moumoudou Niang @ CAN 2012 & Kevin Prince Boateng, Asamoah Gyan, in the world cup qualifiers. Lets put FAZ in order pls ur exellecncy MCS save us from shame.
Gumu gumu ukaleka kugumula sugona pano, gumu gumu ukaleka kugumula sugona pano,gumu..gumu..gumu.Why leave a top goal scorer and settle for an inactive Felix Katongo?we cant develop the game like that.Maybe by luck.GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.
FAZ chose to go 2 yrs back for the french..meaning they don’t have a plan for another 2yrs..so u can 4get 2014 in brazil
We need to work extra hard. Having been in West Africa for the last 11 years, I have had an opportunity to meet a good number of players and to see them training.I remember when Zambia came to Ghana for the Africa Cup, and how we teamed-up to go and watch them play in Kumasi. They struggled to cop with the high humidity, and many got tired quickly.Let us hope they will take into consideration the Equatorial Guinea terrain, as we prepare.Honestly, the guys that side are very, very serious about training and discipline. My last five years in Ghana have been enlightening..
Isn’t this the selfsame Felix who hasn’t played any competitive football because of the war in Libya…this chap has his favourites  I guess. Most progressive Football Associations are pushing and advertising their players to play in competitive leagues in Europe. What can you learn in Libya or Dubai or China…the incompetent FAZ president himself plied his trade in Europe but now he’s more interested on that future position in Zurich hoping that one of the dinosaurs there drops dead, so he can be seated next to uncle Sepp.  Â
Im wondering why the coach has opted for felix katongo instead of jonas sakuwaha this felix is old fashioned esp that he hasnt been a regular since he left libya…i feel that the coach wants the old team he had at last afcon…this is no good at all.bring back jonas man.
Imbwa ishi …….renard came to learn football in Zambia, when he thot he had learned enough he went now he realised he had not mastered anything so he is back. FAZ has a coaching coarse and Renard is the student, Kalu Head Boy. Janza monitor. Know this that Renard is our student not coach. when he learns some football he will go. Dont even bother to analyse who has been left out. THESE ARE DOGS they can eat their vomit.
#25 Once met HR at Monalisa the last time he waz national coach; liberal beveragez, finger-licking eateriez, nice brand-new van parked outside and some very good company. Think he got all that while coaching a club in Algeria? Sure bet hiz loox will change soon and very soon.
What of Justine Zulu in Midfield?
I am very suprised as to why he should pick on Felix Katongo who has not played for a long time and he leaves out Sakuwaha. This man is scoring goals. The problem we have in the country is that, our current top scorer has scored less than 18 goals. Sakuwaha has done that in a relatively stronger league than ours. Let us be serious. Who selects these players? Is it the coach or there is a “ghost” somewhere. The same was the case with Clifford Mulenga. We have to find out what he did for him to be considered now.
Billy Mwanza???????????////
But i thought Bola played against Ghana? He is now eligible for international matches I guess. The prob;em with Sakuwaha is he scores out in Sudan just like Clifford in SA. The boys should be scoring home also. But they are very good boys. Maybe they need maturity
This is one of the excellent post.Your blog information is very classic and good.I like this post.
