UPDATED WITH RESULTS: Power Dynamos Are The Champions!

Share

Power Dynamos today ended an agonizing 11-year wait for the Faz Super Division title after beating Zanaco 1-0 at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.

Power, who last won the league in 2000, secured the crown with a game in hand after amassing an unassailable 56 points from 29 matches in their penultimate game of the season.

The win also earned coach Fordson Kabole’s second career title as coach after winning the Super Division with Nchanga Rangers in 1998.

“Well it is a great feeling and I should think you saw the challenge that I had,” Kabole said in a post-match interview at Sunset stadium today.

“I was I was given three season in which to win it (The league) but I have done it in two season which is a good thing for me.”

Meanwhile, Sunset was packed to the rafters as Power fans imported to Lusaka the electric atmosphere of Arthur Davies Stadium giving the Capital a rare ambience of true football fever.

Power secured their sixth league title via a 44th minute solitary goal scored by Luka Lungu who rifled in from close-range.

Zanaco struggled to find any rhythm in a match Power dominated much of this game playing some sweet passing football showing why they are deserved champions for 2011.

However, Lungu and Simon Bwalya found Zanaco goalkeeper Racha Kola in inspired form or were also let down by poor finishing.

And Power had a late scare in the 90th minute when Danny Chama’s header for Zanaco flew just winches wide of the right angle.

Power will represent Zambia in the Caf Champions League and return to continental football for the first time since 2003 when they reached the quarterfinals of the defunct Caf Cup Winners Cup.

  1. No one cares really

I know nothing about football, and I think they a new team with no history whatsoever and they win what?

That sounds like a mediocre cup they have won

Either way I am afraid any reasonable sperson will not care at all, Football is admired genetically by people that are not the most cleverrest bunch in this world

How anyone who kicks a leather rag should be called a hero let alone be paid, is quiete frankly beyond me

We are sick and tired of listening to these nonentitiess football teams. Go away please, stop talking about these mediocre teams

    Thanks

    • Mushota you are a very dull person,i wonder how behave, why read things you do not understand. My friend jst keep waiting for nshima at home than waste your time by commenting rubissh here.KAJON SOLYE BWAI

    • Mushota, just shut up rather than displaying your ignorance. It seems you do not know what going on around you and I am really sad for you. What level of education have you attained to insult lovers of football. Do not ask about mine because you will be shocked. Viva football! Viva Power 90!

    • Mushota, you completely sound like a full time loser. Well, one day it will get you as it didn’t take you to became an animal with a dirty mouth.

  2. Mushota is toooooooooooooo stupid to say the least. What is she/he made of – mafi or what?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Lusaka times please get your facts right instead of misleading the public. Fordson Kabole is not the power head coach. The power coach is Beston ‘Quicksilver’ Chambeshi.

  4. Congrats aba yellow. Fordson Kabole is the Technical Director at Power while Beston “Quick Silver” Chambeshi is the coach.

  5. Dont mislead us,who is coach at power? I thought its quick silver.Congrats power!I have supported them since 1979.As for Mushota ala kuntu watukana.Tondolo musuma.Kalebalika bane.GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.

  6. Power dynamos, thanks very much boys.i cant wait to watch the last game and sing along the faith supporters as we used to in the early 80s.ias i write this,i remember
    Blackwell Chalwe, Better Mbewe
Edwin Kanyanta,Joseph Mwewa,Able Mwelesho,Michael Musonda,Happy Simfukwe,Boyd Chilembo,Staphord Mutalama,Wisdom Chansa,Boni Muma Alex Chola,Peter Kaumba many but to mention a few.our heroes this victory is yours. For Mushota, the pig called her husband must keep his dick deep down her as.ss maybe she an have manners.

  7. Congrats Dinamo, but who is the coach,is it Kabole or chambeshi? mushota from your outburst how would you like to be addressed.I don’t find any word in my vocabulary that can easily describe you .you are just out of this world

  8. In terms of coach, it is quicksilver who is head coach and not Kabole as alleged by Lusaka Times who must make a correction. Kabole may be technical advisor as stated bygone blogger but the real man to take credit as a coach is quicksilver. Make the correction LT

  9. Congrats Power! You make those of us from Kitwe very proud. We have a long and enviable football tradition in Kitwe. You just need to look at the unequaled records of Power and Nkana. And yet all successive Zambian governments can never even think of honouring the second largest city in Zambia and the hub of the Copperbelt with an international stadium! How pathetic!

  10. No 23; the coach is Fordson. There have been changes in the dressing room which we were not all aware of. He has been in charge for a long time

  11. Ba Mushota, ninshi muli basungu? You are a freakin disgrace to the Land of the Victoria Falls. May you rot in this diaspora. What a name, Mushota…I am sure naushotako na mano! On a better note, Bravo Power 90!

  12. The good old days of Kitwe. It was Nkana and Power all the time. We used to change between Arthur davies and pachilata for the africans champions and caf cup games. Like what another guy said next, year it will be Nkana red devils

  13. Congrats ba DiNamo. Sungeni bwino ichikombe chesu ba Kalampa. This can only fire Nkana up for next season. Watch this space.
Does anybody know how I can contribute resources to Nkana from diaspora? A team kit may be. I am so passionate about Nkana, I can’t bear to see them struggle & do nothing about it.

  14. Congratulations to Power Dynamos, but I just wonder with this average of 1.5 goals per match just how many centuries it’ll take for anyone to equal or beat Godfrey Chitalu’s 107 goals in a season. Note that this 1.5 goals per match average is in fact for the team and not necessarily the league top scorer!

  15. People can really blow hot and cold: @1 Mushota claims not to be a follower of soccer but she logged onto this website and of all articles chose to open the one about Power Dynamo’s victory and despite her lack of interest in soccer went ahead to read the whole article?? She should try walking the streets of London saying what she says about football… Some of government’s huge revenue in the UK is from soccer, which revenue funds the development there that makes Mushota prefer that country to living in Kasama or Mpika, and am sure she calls herself educated!

  16. Folks, the problem with blogging is that you may get so angry with Mushota, only to discover that she’s a 9-year old!

  17. Power 90, congrats for keepin da trophy( if theres one) on the Copperbelt.

Ka Mushota stays in Kanyama Lusaka. Diz flags are just a disguise.

  18. Its good to be champs after such a long time. One of the giants in the Zambian soccer is back at the top.Its soooooo gratifying!Conrats quisck silver and the boys!

  19. Congrats Power, and thanks to u blogger 15 for remindinding us of those great names from Power of the 80s. Just want to add a few like Lucky Msiska, Edwin ‘Stopper’ Katongo, Charles ‘ Ninja’ Kafula, Francis Mutembo, Ken Mwape,Pearson Mwanza , Gift Nyirenda and Joseph ‘Starter Joe’ Nkunika. I am Power for life from 1979
