Vice president Guy Scott on Friday refused to dwell into the report on the findings on the sale of Zamtel in parliament on the basis that the final report is yet to be tabled before cabinet.
Dr. Scott says he did not want to prejudge the outcome of the cabinet decision on the sale of the parastatal company.
The Vice president was responding to P.F Kamfinsa Member of Parliament Moses Chishimba who wanted to know what will happen to people involved in the partial sale of Zamtel.
Mr. Chishimba says government should table measures to be taken against those in the transaction now deemed fraudulent by a commission of inquiry mandated to investigate its sale to Lap Green of Libya.
And justice deputy minister Ngosa Simbyakula has told parliament that government has no immediate plans to reconstitute the defunct taskforce on corruption.
Doctor Simbyakula has assured the house that government will use the existing law enforcement agencies to fight the graft.
The deputy minister was responding to Mr. Chishimba who wanted to know whether government has any future plans of reconstituting the task force on corruption which was disbanded during the MMD’s rule.

We are not going to get Back Zamtel considering how best they have put it in. However those involved in this illegal deal should be prosecuted. The only thing we shall negotiate with this Lap Green is to pay all the dues which was paid by the government on their behalf and probably get some shares from their 75 % stake.
please, please, please, i beg u cabinet that u grab zamtel since it was fraudulently sold by dora and rupiah. these pipo had no regard for the common zambian. what they did is criminal. please grab it back. civil society organisation, like tiz, saccord, citizens forum, fodep, zec must come in and urge cabinet to grab zamtel back for the zambian pipo. i beg u please
It would be too expensive a path to grab Zamtel back. It wont happen. Yes wrong doers like Dora will be hunted for political reasons but the govt will not afford a legal battle with Zamtel owners.
If Lapgreen is not willing to pay more than what they have already down, let the current government take their case for re-possession to International Courts of Law, where they will represent, us, the citizens and explain how the previous regime corruptly denied us a national asset for reasons that we have failed to understand. After all, African Presidents and their minnions are well known internationally for their corruption. The Courts should help us to get a better deal from Zamtel, whilst we remain a good destination for investment.
YES CABINET SLOD ZAMTEL AND CABINET WILL HAVE THE FINAL SAY ON GETTING IT BACK, WAWA OPPOSITION
U chaps crying that gvt takes back zamtel should grow up and think properly!zamtel is more efficient and effective now than it was as a parastatal!they cud have 3drivers for one vehicle and I remember having 3bosses doing the same thing in one department!just renegotiate gvts stake noti ati give us back zamtel ifyabupa!
The PF government knows that the MMD government did the right thing to sell Zamtel. That is why Cabinet will not do anything like grabbing it and then giving back to LAP-Green US$260m plus intrest, plus value of increase in subscriber base. What is happening is grand standing for shallow minds and settling political scores. It was not Dora who negotiated the price. It was ZDA. Why are they not arresting the negotiators at ZDA. THE CABINET WILL NEVER GRAB BACK ZAMTEL. CABINET HAS MANY SOBER PEOPLE.
I think the govt should nationalise all companies that have been privatised since MMD came into power.
At how much was KCM sold to Vedanta, Luanshya Division to Binani, Mufulira/Nkana division to Mopani and many more mines? It is not really about the price but the risk involved in letting the status quo stay for the sake of gvt having something even when you know it is going to die. Also it is to do withthe investment plan the buyers have. Look at Luanshya Division under ZCCM, it was near closing and no investment was being allocated to it. now look at what the chinese are doing with the existing mine and the new Muliashi mine.
#6. You have missed the point. The Sale of Zamtel was under valued. If the issue was management why not down size or resturcture other than sell it for a song.
Simple math $38-$81 = $41. If you think losing $41 million for a country like Zambia tuli fipuba go look in the mirror to see the fool .
Zambia has alot of fools, alot of foolish people who are juts parasites. Now i understand why mushota looks at this country like a grave yard.
Instead of foolish Zambians lobbying for the government to empower them to start there business, they are just waiting for tax and just want to milk every body with light coloured skin who put money in there businesses.
Some of the you have never even tried to run a KANTEMBA to see now rough the world of business is instead you are busy complaining about this inverter and that inverter. Ask your government to empower you by given you grants and my guess is that very few will survive the competitive environment of business.
@10,hehe atleast I don’t have a mirror!look let’s not beat about the bush here!the truth is zamtel is performing much better unda lap green than b4!cmon we all know that gvt can’t fire people or declare workers redundant for if it did that u still be the 1st to cry foul!privatization properly done has done wonders for the former parastatals as they are performing better(mines)!eg zamtels Internet is one of the best now!nway if your cry is that it was undervalued it’s not that simple to grab it back like finance bank for that was a favor being done to a friend!if you want re negotiate gvts stake in the company noti ati making it a parastatal!
Its not about Zamtel performing better now than never, No!. Its about how it was sold and how much was involved. My prayer is that GRZ should reduce the percentage in shares for Lapgreen to carter for the money they paid. So, give Lapgreen 30% onwnership, 45% should be offloaded at Lusaka Stock Exchange for the Common Zambian to invest in and 25% should be for GRZ.

The only voice of reason in the PF party speaks. I have said before and I am saying it right now that Guy Scott is the one that is doing the mope up job for the blabber-mouth MCS. I am still yet to see any shred of presidential material in this man because every time he opens his mouth you shudder at what is going to come out of it. I think it is his nature to be confrontational, hence, the hire and fire tactics from the time he stepped into his office. As they say in football ” faka bola pansi”. Â Â
It just does not pay for Sata to be in opposition and saw how undemocratic the MMD were in making decisions in the Zambian public interest
Sata is making the same mistakes that his fellow former MMD politicians and compatriots made. That is make decisions in a dictator way. NO questions asked and am the EMPEROR of Central Africa that is Sata the son of the HEADMAN from Mpika
And where are the Roman Catholic Church Bishops who used to criticize the MMD government on FLIMSY ground just because they thought they were being supported by the non Roman Catholic Church members? Where is Bishop Mpundu?
No wonder these Bishops celebrated COZ they think State House is another Parish Building to conduct their throwing of holy Black Water on Sata
Forget all the tantrums from Mr Sata, this is more credible stuff as it is coming from the only person with some semblance of reason in PF.
:(( too Bad we are being ruled under six six six, anyway time will tell,
God is not asleep
