South Africa U20 Where Tough Say Keagan Mumba

Share

Zambia Under-20 coach Keagan Mumba has described his 5-1 win over Amajita South Africa that sealed his teams semifinal place in their final Cosafa Youth Champions Group C game as tough.

Young Chipolopolo’s win sees them through to Thursday’s semifinals where they will face Botswana who will make only their second ever and historic appearance in their last four in the tournament.

“It was tough but we utilized out chances and we meet Botswana in the semifinals,” Mumba said.

“It is not easy to play as title holders but the boys accounted for themselves well. So far, so good.

“It is not about me to be happy but all the stakeholders involved in putting the team together.”

Mumba said he was disappointed that South African coach Solly Luvhengo sounded a now familiar tone that comes with every loss to Zambia at junior level.

“As usual South Africa cried foul on age cheating. Marely sour grapes and they are sour losers,” Mumba said.

The defending Cosafa Youth Champions secured their semifinal date with Botswana thanks to a brace from the Nkana duo of Evans Kangwa and Reynold Kampamba.

Red Arrows midfielder Shadreck Malambo added the third goal in the 57th minute after Kangwa found the target in the 24th and 57th minutes.

Meanwhile, Botswana qualified from Group A to face Zambia after beating Swaziland 3-0 to top Group A.

  1. great stuff! why not take the free scoring strikers to the africa cup??? jacob mulenga, collins don’t score anyway…ghana took most of their u20 world cup winners to the africa cup and the world cup…today their are the elite players in the euro champions league…time to move on with new players chipolopolo coach has come..tables have turned since you were last here 2yrs ago. u need new blood whether they go there and lose at least u will show that ur giving chance to everyone…

  2. The boys were a marvel to watch. The SA team tried to play thier usual ‘mapilikiti’ type of football but they were skinned alive.GO MIGHTY ZAMBIA GO!

  3. Well done boys, you did so well! For me, you’ve just done it all and I don’t even care whether you’ll lift the trophy or not – pantu bambi balitumpasana, bamona kwati impiya = talent, and yet football talent is in Zambian haemoglobin – tufyalwafye nayo. Guess what, lelo na pa news tapachiba, GOOD LESSON MY BOYS!!

  4. # 5 atleast today you have said something we can agree on, the current senior team has no sensational flavor, starting at goalie Mweene, we miss Mbola, then central defense is nothing to rely on. Since the days of the Billy Mwanza/Hachilenza, nothing came forth. Mid-field is up & down, the strikers as well kaya mwe.
The only players who can be spared are: Stophila, Kalaba, Chsamba and Mayuka. The rest can be replaced by Under 20. Starting from goalkeeper Mapulanga, and that midfielder Malambo is good. The famous Bruce, has gone in hibernation.

  5. We need to admit that our lads are over age, why is it that at under 20 we always win when at senior level we lose to teams like Zimbabwe, we should not even celebrate

  6. Over age ? my foot. please stop complaining in reverse because its SA themselves who were visibly over age or overfed. Unless our boys bakulila mukati but uwawa tabula kabepesho.

  7. The victory is very sweet and well dezerved. Yes #9 haz a point we need to be honest with ourslvez about the the agez of theze boiz, else we wont get any where at senior level in football. Let’s take for example; who among our U20 are in secondary shool or at least completed Grade 12 two/three yearz ago, authentically? Though I dont think SA are any sincere and therefore should be the last to cry out loud!

  8. Well done boyz. Now the problem is this according to African belief that has been going round for sometime now.You may draft the young boyz for the AFCON 2012.They will not score, unless you remove some of the senior players who have the habit of tying their friends legs until he scores thats when others will follow.Look at the Nigeria friendly game he had more chances to score but he failed hence the loss.
Let the duo of Kangwa,Kampamba and Musakanya play as starters in AFCON 2012 and you will see the results. In India the same seniors player were not there the boyz had fied day interms of performance. They scored goals even if India is a weak team.
