Sata leaves for Uganda

Share

PRESIDENT Michael Sata is today expected to leave for Kampala, Uganda to attend the 4th International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) summit.

This is according to a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday by State House Deputy Press Secretary Amos Chanda.

Mr Chanda said the ICGLR summit would take place from December 15 to 16, 2011 after which President Sata would return home.

He said President Sata would handover Zambia’s chairmanship of the group to President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda.

“The President will be accompanied by First Lady Dr Christine Kaseba who will deliver a keynote address at the First Ladies meeting on the sidelines of the summit,” Mr Chanda said.

President Sata’s advance party includes Defence Minister Geoffrey Mwamba, his Foreign Affairs counterpart Chishimba Kambwili, Deputy Minister in-Charge of Gender Emerine Kabanshi and other senior officials.

Meanwhile, Mr Sata has recognised James Ng’andu as Senior Chief Nkula of the Bemba people of Chinsali in Muchinga Province.

The recognition follows Mr Ng’andu’s selection to ascend to the Nkula throne in line with the Bemba tradition and custom.

Mr Chanda said the president signed the recognition order yesterday under the authority of the Chiefs Act, Chapter 287 of the Laws of Zambia.

  1. So is it automatic that Guy Scot will be acting president in absence of MCS? i know that he is not eligible to be zambian president despite him being zambian because both his parents were not born in Zambia. But what does our law say about ACTING PRESIDENT? can anyone even a Chinese act as our republican president? educate me bane.

  2. That delegation to Uganda is all bemba (a reflection of the constitution of the cabinet)!! How does any one deny tribalism in government?? There is more to Zambia than just bembas, bwana President. In time, you shall reap what you saw. The God that you serve and worship every sunday at St. Ignatius is not happy when so many of his children are complaining. Its not too late to pause, listen and make amends.

  3. This was a ‘must’ trip to hand over and he had no choice. Wait until he opens his mouth on the international scene. He is going to get another nickname soon from other leaders. Watch the space. Yes.

  4. @1 The president himself explained that he will not travel because he wants to save money for poor Zambians. What happened to that commitment? Like always, he never sticks to anything he says. I hope he goes by road and pay for his bills in Uganda to save money. Someone must teach this clown of a president, what it means to be head of state.

  5. Now what say all you st.upid id.iots who said this man cannot travel due to ill health??????????????you now have to admit, your dreams are just tha,t dreams! HE MCS is fit and well, God the almighty will protect him from all the EVIL bad things you wish upon our elected president the LORD is great Travel well Mr President you are doing the job we voted for & rejected RB and HH ;;1Zambia1Nation //////@11PM(with a wife from eastern promise) thank you have shown your true stance please Lekeni ba kateka bateki

  6. The Man has recovered from these heart things so he can not die ‘UMOTOMBO’ Bakabweleko uku katwishi mayo. Too may ministers on the trip. lets not lose the whole cabinet in these crashes

  7. Towards the end of the year there are few such undertakings. the man will start galivanting come next year. the man has never been consistent in anything……name them……electoral promises, marriages, tribal appointments, telling lies, alarming his own country about fake money in circulation, over appointing 10 instead of 8 nominations, swallowing a humble pie over abolishment of secretary to cabinet position, uncoordinate flow of speeches, u-turning on barotse agreement, appointing a tribal cabinet, u-turning on windfall tax eeeeeeeeeeeeeettttttttttttttttttcccccccccccc..or etecetra

  8. Ba Sata please don’t talk too much the most you can do is say hello bwanji banja. Don’t be like this presdo is going against me or is this and that. Osati sebanya yayi.  travel well

  9. Why is it that the entourage is composed of bembas only out of 73 tribes in Zambia. What is going on mwebantu. Is this what is called tribalism. Answer me now .

  10. I hear he used a chopper from state house to the airport. Is it cheaper to use a chopper than by road for 20kms? Save more money for the street vendors pockets please!!!!!!

  11. I am a Zambian and the people that travelled are zambians, period. Why sniff about their tribes you tribalists? The criteria was not their tribes but what they are in Zambian politics.

  12. This is a good ‘test trip’ as it is only 2 hrs, if the president can tolerate it, then he is in for longer ones to europe asia etc. Not afika ku Uganda akomoka, nishi…iliko bad.

  13. @30

Yes, its cheaper to fly by helicopter from State house to KK International Airport, it only takes a 10-15 minutes. As a motorcade needs escort cars, bikes, policemen at every junction all this police man hours has to be accounted for and it also inconveniences other road users. Please lets be objective and open-minded.

  14. Guy Scott would be ‘acting’ – just that. The requirements for standing as President don’t apply to the position of vice-president.

Sata didn’t say he would NEVER travel. He indicated he would be selective in deciding what is necessary – because when the President himself travels, the costs are higher

  15. this is the most dull president zambia has produced. Bembas are dull by nature except talking too much for nothing. No one is above zambia. Time to cry is coming…. This time you will get it hard with N/western, western and southern province. Time will tell, mafii yenu!

  16. we are sad in my family so this man can travel, my fellow tongas lets cry now because this feels like we are chiyangas jenkete sufferers

  17. Its simple when the President is out the Vice President is the Acting president for that you dont need both your parents to have been born in Zambia-That only applies when voting comes. Secondly in the case that the Vice President is out the deputy minister in the Vice Presidents office acts as President.

  18. VP Scot is in china for a special meeting with the chinese govt, its for this reason ,Hon Alexander Chikwanda is the acting president, till HE MCS returns
