POLICE yesterday warned and cautioned MMD Lusaka Province chairman William Banda and eight other party members for unlawful assembly.
Lusaka Province division police commissioner Charity Katanga confirmed the development in an interview.
Ms Katanga said Mr Banda and about 20 other MMD members unlawfully assembled at a named eating place between Kabulonga and Woodlands where they were planning to organise people to rise against the PF government, for failing to fulfil its campaign promises within 90 days.
“We are recording warn and caution statements from them, then we will release them and carry on with our investigations,” Ms Katanga said.
She said the group had a closed-door assembly between 10:00 hours and 14:00 hours and refused to answer knocks from plain-clothed detectives who approached them.
The commissioner said uniformed police only managed to apprehend Mr Banda and eight others when they arrived at the scene.
She said police will continue investigating the case and have asked Mr Banda and his colleagues to report back to police next week.
[Zambia Daily Mail]
Banda you are playing with the cobra. Wapya munzi now since the police ate waiting for instruction from above.
U re 2 blame coz tht chimudala should b behind bars by ths tym
8-|so mr banda will no longer enjoy his brutality way of behaviour. :/
This is bullshit. leave Tekere alone. Didn’tPF plan to opose MMD polices when they were in opposition? We will demostrate PF’s failure to bring development in 90 days. what has PF brought? More street people selling on streets instead of trading in markets. This is a failed government.
you punk why are you concerned bout the 90 days when u did not even vote for the PF. We voted for PF and we gave them 5 years. Stop complaining you loser get life or hang yourself….
Leave Tekere alone. PF liers. We sahll demonstrate. Well said Tumelu
What is wrong with Zambia. Why keep criminals on the street.Maybe we should just be let to understand that William Banda is untouchable as he put it personally. He will still remain strong and break any laws.He knows the weakenesses inside Zambian laws and justice delivery
The right to freedom of assembly is a cornerstone of democracy.
Why is his case taking long? Don Chichi deported this *****. Send Tekere in for even two months mwebantu and after that put him on the van and send him back where he belongs!
@Chump. The laws of the land have to be respected!
Cage the tug full stop!!
@ No 8, perhaps you can edify me on what laws these citizens broke by holding a private meeting?
The right to protest, together with freedom of speech are also cornerstones of democracy…. and something I believe President Sata and his cohorts are sworn to uphold.
Or would you prefer a Zambia that does not respect these principles?
@Chump. I know who you are. But look, until we change the law (and I am one of the advocates of that), it was unlawful assembly.
How?
The group had a closed door meeting and people had to knock. this was not a public meeting or rally in the market. How many closed meetings take place around the country in company board rooms and even in houses as cell group church meetings? Is the PF now telling us that these are illegal?
I think PF is just guilty of their 90 days nonsense.
@Tumelu WHY DON’T YOU START CELEBRATING NOW. MAKE BANNERS AND MATCH ACROSS THE ROADS WHEREVER YOU ARE! IF PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS WHERE TO BE CALLED FOR TODAY, SATA WOULD GET MORE RESULTS THAN HE GOT 3MONTHS AGO. AND REMEMBER, MOST OF YOUR MP’S FROM BOTH THE MMD AND UPND WOULD STAND ON THE PF TICKET.
tell them man!!!!!!!!!!!!
POLICE ARE JUST WASTING THERE TIME. EVEN IF THEY WERE TO PROTEST, WHO WOULD BE ON THE ROAD WITH THE MMD? ONLY A SHALLOW MINDED PERSON FROM THE OPPOSITION IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE 90 DAYS. GET BACK TO WORK.
I think that this William was not beaten enough. If the law does not cage this mother f.ucker we’ll slap him around a bit more than last time.
If all your family supports MMD then worry about your lunch function this Christmas day.
You might be locked up for illegal gathering.
Why the police protecting the 90 days liars. They shud be professional.
Hatred, pain, tears, more pain, bitterness, blood, pain!!!! Yessss! Go Zambia Go! Go bloggers GO! Keep blogging pain, death and punishment!!!
Back to Police state. I guess the beginning of more madness
This man is very lucky because our President Sata is a very sympathetic man. he should have been in the cage by now.
where is freedom to assembly? This is becoming a police state.
Imwe deal with this couprit, akamutwe kwati ni venorn mwanga.
Yes William should just be grateful he’s still in Zambia. Be peaceful, campaigns are over
deleted as per request
Mwandi a dumbu Sosa.
get a life bitch.
The worst courts in Zambia are magistrates’s,they report for duty at 09.00 and knock off at half 11.00 two hours on duty, just imagine. The local courts are better of,if Chiluba was taken in one of them justice should have prevailed. So the same with Banda the man should have been cageda long time ago.
Do you now see why this Banda was deported to his home country of beautiful Malawi?
Deport the chap.
PF is perhaps the most impotent symbol of a failing goverment that when unable to trace any available law to deal with issues, can only with impunity resort to state terror, brutal and fragrant repression of basic human rights. That makes a huge difference with the previous regime where they freely excersised these rights without being arrested.
Atase just deport him back to Nyasaland!!!
Mmmmmh WB now has powers 2 even ve unlawful gathering, isn’t he the one who almost escape to malawi? If PF was like MMD where he belongs, he would ve been late by now. Thank GOD for the calm leaders…
Police state, next they will be loading you from pubs for ‘unlawfull assembly’.
With the damage alcohol has done to Zambia arresting a
Unlawfully assembled drunks would not be a bad idea. PF take notes.
Yes Banda teach them a lesson .90 days tommorow .we are going to assembly also here in Kitwe to analyse the past 90 days.
I would urge GRZ to just focus on their agenda. There will always be opposition, protests and riots. This is nothing new. It was there during Kaunda, Chiluba, Mwanawasa and Banda’s time. Each administration had a way of dealing with it and continued to move the country forward using the systems in place, i.e. police, etc.
I think having the president pull away from official duties to deal with these non-issues is a waste of my time. I am ready to see Zambia move forward, but it seems we’re all too content to watch all this meaningless drama of chasing after the wind, that even after you catch it, you can’t do anything with it.
Let us be serious, if you want drama, watch some tv.
We are already an underdeveloped nation, let us not add insanity to the mix.
Cage the animal before sending him back where he belongs.
Oh sorry should have been-Cage the animal before sending it back where it belongs. And, we know he comes from Malabi!
Last heard of unlawful assembly in KK days. Sata plz dont take us back there.
Castrate the ka old man and feed his fyatile to the dogs.
He does not seem to learn
whatis wrong with william having a meeting fikalafyenu bonse ne chipuba mwasala
The Police are a shameful Security Unit of the PF Govt.. Ba William Banda’s political activities are transparent for all to see and hear. Yet the thinking and activities plunderers like Musa Mwenye, Sebastian Zulu, Mutembo Nchito, Silvia Masebo, IG Malama, Nkole, Mmembe, CEO’s of LAZ, Transparent International, SARCOD are too cryptic (hidden) to be traced by the Security wings. Zambians know fully well the evil atrocities that such PF cadres and Vuvuzelas do under the moonlight shades. A recent recruit to the PF Circus is the Ba-pongoshi Joyce (Loyce) Kaseba. – and what a mess! Police must know that several gatherings do take place in homes and other places for religious and other forms of discussions for which the Police should appreciate not unleash Police-State terrorism.
Besides, University and College students do meet to discuss national issues in much larger numbers that exceed 50. We wonder whether the overzealous Police will be sneefing their noses in institutions of higher learning. Only yesterday their beloved President was publicly castigating the IG Malama for failure to deal with real plotters of treasonable offences in Western Province. Yet IG Malama opted to demonstrate his blunt teeth on poor William Banda who is merely trying to help refine the operations of PF Govt – which is the main task of the opposition.
HRC is right. forget wot Banda did in the past, our obeys lawz.
