Zesco United today unveiled their new coach while Zanaco appointed Wedson Nyirenda successor.
Nyirenda was unveiled to the press at the Trade Fair Grounds in Ndola on Wednesday morning as new Zesco coach on a three year deal.
The former Zanaco coach returned to Zesco three years after leading them to their first and second league titles in 2007 and 2008.
He joined Zanaco in 2009 where he won the league title that season before resigning last term after two subsequent modest and trophyless years.
Meanwhile, Zanaco have replaced Nyirenda with Keagan Mumba who leaves Konkola Blades after one season in charge of the Chililabombwe club.
Mumba has signed a three-year deal as Zanaco bank on him to replicate his 2011 success at Blades who he guided to a rare third place finish
this coaches association is toothless to say the least. why cant we have a local national team coach now. inspite of all these coaching courses that they are subjected to year in year out no one has ascended to the helm. are they all that daft they have not grasped latest techniques up to now. take stock of teams that are going to the africa cup with local coaches. you will be suprised. how irritating.
#1 Mature, you dont understand the Zambian coaches. They are too corrupt and biased hence poor results. The other reason is the education level which is too low for some them to manage a national team.
I agree with #2,there is too much corruption in the choosing of national team players. A # of them dont deserve even 2 b on the bench.though Renard Bwalya is not the best of coaches,a foreign coach is evitable.
Where is Simukonda?
The problem is threefold. One, we have a country that believes and thinks anything white is good. Two, we have more illiterate soccer coaches because of our system of not giving former players who most of them are semi illiterate, a chance to undergo coaching courses that would help them. Moreover, anytime a zambian professional coach wants to come and help, they get chewed at every moment the country does bad. I mean, we still have legends in Patrick Phiri, Fighton Simukonda, Fordson Kabole, Keegan Mumba, Wedson Nyirenda and the upcoming coaches like Linos, Lawrence Mweemba, Beston, except we aint gonna give them and pay them the way we pay these white skinned pigfeets. Wake up fellas, we denying ourselves our ability to be independent and be able to showcase our own kind of soccer.
As mentioned by #2 and #3, there is an issue with integrity with our local coaches. The current and former national team players at all levels talk. Local coaches must know that we are aware of what goes on and have little regard for them because of low levels of integrity. Unfortunately, some goverment and FAZ officials influence decisions on who is part of the team especially on the average players who have these links. Local coaches, protect your integrity. These players you interact with talk and complain behind the scenes.
