Zambia and South Africa drew 1-1 in a friendly played at Rand Stadium in Johannesburg this afternoon.
Defender Stophila Sunzu of TP Mazembe in DR Congo scored the opener before South Africa equalized in the second half.
The friendly was the two sides first meeting since January 20, 2009 when South Africa beat Zambia 1-0 at Atteridgeville outside Pretoria.
Zambia now face Namibia this Saturday in what is expected to be their final friendly game before heading to Equatorial Guinea next Tuesday.
Meanwhile, ex-Chipolopolo midfielder Gift Kampamba has predicted a tough Africa Cup outing for Zambia.
Zambia will begin their Africa Cup campaign with seemingly tricky Group A encounter against Senegal on January 21.
Kampamba, who featured at the 2002 Africa Cup in Mali, said it won’t be easy for Zambia to progress from Group A which has also contains Libya and co-hosts Equatorial Guinea.
“I can’t say Zambia will reach the quarterfinals. Reaching the last eight is a far-fetched dream,” said Kampamba.
He described the current national team as unpredictable.
However, the former Rostov, Mamelodi Sundowns and Nkana midfielder said Chipolopolo are a very unpredictable team despite his reservations about Zambia’s Africa chances.
“Let the players motivate themselves, I know many foreign based players have got the heart to play for the nation,” Kampamba said.
You can still do it do not loose hope zambia
For those with BP please pretend that we do not have a team representing us at the afcon coz you simply die.this team we have assembled is useless and expect zero performance from this team
yes our boys are unpredictable. just watch these games involving them level headed otherwise you will colapse if you expect alot from them. ba LT, what was the line up?
Iwe Gift Kapamba just support the team…..Dont be pessimistic here just because you are not part of the team! How come we topped the group during the qualifying matches using the same unpredictable team???? Go Zambia go ..but do not disappoint us please. Your group is really tough but we know you to be tough too. The only problem with you guys is that you always have an inferiority complex that compromises your standards always. Remember, there is no Egypt, Cameroun, South Africa and Nigeria!!!! Win Senegal and draw with Equitorial Guinea and you qualify lads.
hey, where is Mbola? I though the guy is good?
This 1-all draw does not bode well for the tournament. This was a makeshift Bafana C and we drew with them. Goal scoring is a major concern. However, Gift as a former player should have supported the team and not been so pessimistic. How can reaching the quarter finals be a far fetched dream against mediocre opposition like Equatorial Guinea and Libya. Gift should be ashamed of himself for making such comments. Anyway, he was never patriotic and even in his playing days he often evaded call ups to the national team. He is a disgrace!
I am not sure about this team, I fear they are not good enough.
We have played Libya before and I think they are beatable. Senegal currently are not as formidable as the Teranga Lions of yester years. Equatorial Guinea may prove difficult for they will be at home but they are just an average side. The biggest problem with our boys is as has been well put by Black Man @4 Inferiority Complex. A motivational speaker may help.
Kampamba poor citizen how can you just discourage the nation like that..???
It is realy difficult to predict our national team. Anyway, let us wait and see. EKO SULILE EKOPILE NOKO.
Go – Zambia – Go!
Gift is so disappointing, cant he support the team even for the sake of his young brother. Anyway, we do not need his useless opinions. As for my boys go and get them!!!
This Zambian team sucks. Senior Bafana failed 2 qualify nd now u draw wth their C side. Shame on u. U whr crying 4 a stronger Bafana bt look at u.. U can’t beat a weak makeshift C side of Bafana nd u want 2 go 2 the Africa cup.. U r a disgrace 2 the nation.
That’s the real talk..Zambian National Team Is Unpredictable
Awe ba Coach ine I have no faith in him. He doesnt know how to make the team score. Bafana te team lyakufuma nalyo draw. They haven’t qualified for two Nations Cup finals.
Will really have got alot of home work……… So far theres no light at the end of the tunnel
ha! ha! a draw away from home is not bad. at least signs of progress from nigeria and angola outing are showing and don’t underrate bafana bafana j side..the players were out to secure permanent call outs to the senior team and they achieved their goal. i think zambia under estimated the j side..mweene won the match before playing.. i don’t know what the chap is saying now. that mind set by players is not good and can ultimately deal us a decisive blow against our group opponents like eq-guinea or even libya who had a better head to head on us during the qualifiers .so chipolopolo get focused about your plans to honour the fallen heroes or better stop the talk about the heroes because that won’t win u the matches. just go out there and play football as u know it..thats all we want..
HR drop chamanga and one goal keeper and recall Kola and Justine Zulu before its too late
GO ZAMBIA GO!!!!
Bafana still a bunch of morons from exutive to staff to players, unprofessional bunch of hopeless losers , ask the public for the answers , they know
Lts go Zambia lets go
I hope Gift Kampamba is not brother to Ronald “Sate Sate” Kampamba because I would wish that young Sate Sate to end up hopeless as Gift. He had talent that Gift Kampamba, but ukutumpa ended his career without an headline.
i can’t understand why people would get worked up over a mere practice match. nonsense!
Yesterday in the Morning I posted that Chipolopolo will fire Blanks. It did, my prediction came to pass.
Embarrassing result and shameful statements from Gift. Maybe because it was just training but am not a fun of Mbesuma, he is too tired to make a starting lineup. Hope we use them fresh legs next time. Â
Go Zambia go Draw or lose is our motto and we are used. Go go
Zambians relax… the idea of the game was for both HR to work on formations and player combinations and SA to give their youngsters a chance..hence the unlimited subs for both sides. Don’t read too much in the scoreline. As for Gift, football is played 11-a-side, on 1 field with 1 ball in 90 minutes. Football, not Zambia, is unpredictable. Anything can and will happen at Afcon. I love this tournament.
People lets be serious, Gift is right to say this team is unpredictable. How can you completely fail a mock exam and expect to pass with flying colours in the final exam which is a few days away, under the same conditions? Thats why we will never be good at anything, it seems we believe in miracles, magic or luck! how can you completely fail to do something today and expect to do it perfectly well the following day with the same resources and under the same conditions. This is what they say being insane.
gift is being very realistic and should not be demonised. he played at high level in his days and his words are just to make you guys real. we failed to beat Libya two time we met them. we lost in libya and we drew here in chingola. what will make us beat them there in gabon near their home. obviously they will have more support there. guinea is hosting so will be very difficult to beat, senegal worse. if we qualify to the next round is really gonna be a bonus for us. I bet. but like gift said zambia is unpredictable.
What iz even more agonizing iz the fact that we had to higher a foreign coach impromptu! A draw against a makeshift SA,doez not auger well for a team that facez Senegal in about 10 dayz.
These comments from Gift are spot on, they best describe the team, Unpredictable and requiring self motivation – kwasila. I have so many issues that I feel have not been done right, but its too late to cry. il jus cross my fingers and hope the lads bring me joy………. soon after the cup we go for elections in March.
Kampamba, Your comments ae not professional enough, let alone patriotic. It is a difficult group yes, but you have not given an analysis of why you think Zambian can not progress. Let me give you the dynamics, Zambia plays very well against highly favoured sides.
If they can get a positive result against Senegal, either a draw or beter still a win, they stand a chance of going all the way. However, should they lose to Senegal and also fail to beat Libya,, we enter mathematics and thats when it becomes bad. The result in the preparations is not so imprortant tho it gives the technical bench chance to evaluate where the team is. Agreed, boys should be more clinical, chances will be created by the midfield of Kalaba, but scoring should be assurred, Mayuka, should be used more!!!
Go baice Go GO and face them,BoLA is 90 mins go with DONCHI KUBEBA,the coach knows the secret.suprise them.
When is Zambia going to win Africa Cup? 2054 maybe. How do you celebrate a draw?
number 32, your long story on permutations of possible outcomes is what Gift refers to as ‘unpredictable’. ule kana but muli explanation yobe ule suminisha.
I was at the Stadium ,the first thing on my mind was how to stop CISSE,BA and SOW .Zambia always raise there bars lets rally behind them, otherwise this game was not impressive.Mbesuma was a passenger
Courage boys.Â
Who has ever attended a Training Game for Zambia? I was there and those who doubt that the Coach does not teach these guys how to score, please attend one session and see for yourself. Football is unpredictable very true. Zambia topping the group at the time when Cameron was at his best form with Eto and Alex Song playing. That is not a Joke. Wait for 270 minutes then you will see what will come out of AfCon.
