MMD chairman for finance and economics, Situmbeko Musokotwane has challenged the Patriotic Front Government to clearly point out the irregularities in the sale of ZAMTEL instead of generalizing the matter.Dr. Musokotwane was speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka this morning.

Dr. Musokotwane said that the commission of inquiry constituted to look into the alleged illegal sale of the telecommunications company to Libya’s LAP Green, should make its report public for the general public to know the truth.

He has since challenged the Patriotic Front Government to refute the findings of the then audit report by Ernest and Young, an international firm of auditors which he said found ZAMTEL to be insolvent with enormous and unsustainable debt against few and obsolete assets.

And speaking at the same briefing MMD deputy national secretary Kabinga Pande questioned why republican vice president Guy Scott is able to represent President Michael Sata on international fora when he can’t act as President in his absence.

Mr Pande said that Dr. Scott should therefore desist from representing President Sata on international fairs because it proves that he is not capable of doing a good job.

Mr. Pande said that the Foreign Affairs Minister should instead be representing the president on foreign engagements because it is during international fora that important decisions of the country are made.

He has since urged Zambian citizens not to take concerns raised by former vice president George Kunda on Dr. Scott’s status as mere politicking but should instead analyze the issue.

Meanwhile, Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General Wynter Kabimba has said that the PF government is merely fulfilling the party’s campaign promise to the people of Zambia with regards the Zamtel saga.

Mr Kabimba said that complaints that the PF Government has embarked on a witch-hunt do not therefore arise.

Mr. Kabimba told Journalists in Lusaka today that the PF prior to the September 20th elections made it clear that once in office they will ensure that the sale of Zamtel sale is reviewed and investigated.

He said that the PF will therefore ensure that justice prevails in the Zamtel saga in the best interest of the Zambian people.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kabimba has said it will be up to the party central committee to decide on whether or not to consider adopting former Independent Msanzala Member of Parliament Joseph Lungu who resigned causing the by-election.

He said that the party’s top leadership will meet on Saturday to decide on the forthcoming Msanzala bye- election.

  1. I like the Dr. Does it mean Ernest and Young are incompetent in the eyes of PF? are the members of COI well schooled in Valuation for them to declare that Zamtel was undervalued?

Pande has brought out the facts about Guy Scott and not what PF were trying to twist.Infact GK was on Scott’s side.

  2. MMD guys speak intellectually. They impress me. Not these Kaponyas. The president is worse. There is no intellectualism arroud him.

    • “Mr Pande said that Dr. Scott should therefore desist from representing President Sata on international fairs because it proves that he is not capable of doing a good job.”

Only a retard can find this intellectual. This kind of illogical logic is maliciously mis-leading for feeble minds.

  3. This is intended to undo everything the previous government did, and in the process make some cash. This is a dangerous government, with totally no vision. Which way, Mr. Sata, or is Mr. Satan, are you taking this country? I hope you don’t want the country to die with you.

    • This is the silliest single piece of idiocy i have ever encountered. The thugs are those who have been burying billions of Zed money, and imbeciles are those who are maliciously defensive of these guys and un-warrantedly paranoid of the King Cobra’s regime. PF rulez. Live with it. Protecting thieves and attacking prosecution makes you so pathetically anti national development that I’d personally wish to put a hot iron up yours.

  4. It is embarrassing to work in the PF government where the voice of reason is curtailed by irrationality. The MMD team should continue to charge fearlessly with solid statements. This is the only way of disarming a visionless party. The PF is focused on retribution and slowly losing the grip on governance. Look at what is happening in hospitals; no medicines; endless queues everywhere and the party is busy making allegation after allegation. No case, even the straightforward K2.1 billion has gone to court!

  5. What this government is doing is heightening the risk of doing business in Zambia. In the past 15 years, investors looked at Zambia as an alternative destination to Zimbabwe. They will probably have to settle for much more stable countries in the region like Botswana, Namibia, South African, Tanzania, Mozambique and Angola. Mr. Sata, you may not understand economics, but you should know the simple fact that globalization has unleashed a race to the bottom. Countries jockey for power and advantage. You gain advantage by assuring investors that once they bought and invested in a local enterprise, the next government is not going to seize it. That, in return, creates jobs. Your lunacy, Mr. Sata, will drag this great nation into the shadows.

  6. Our learned Dr and his collegues in the MMD are always speaking with reason and their statements are full of sense and reason. Let the PF also justify their allegations with tangible evidence. Unlike what is happening now where so many wild allegations but to date, non have been taken to court!

  7. Our learned Dr and his collegues in the MMD are always speaking with facts and their statements are full of sense and reason. Let the PF also justify their allegations with tangible evidence. Unlike what is happening now where so many wild allegations have been made; but to date, non have been taken to court!

  8. Musokotwane is a disappointment…think you guys. ZAMTEL was sold by RB…My friend who works for Zamtel told me long before the sale that Libya African Portfolio was the buyer. So what is this former intellectual talking about?

    • But he has challenged the Govt to clearly point out the irregularities in the sale of ZAMTEL instead of generalizing the matter. To me its a valid point. So prove him wrong. The ball is in your hands now and your are in power now.

  9. THIS ***** MUSOKOTWANE,HOW MANY TIMES HAVE THE PIPO POINTED OUT THE WRONGS.
    1.IT WAS UNDERVALUED
    2.SINGLE SOURCING OF THE EVALUATOR
    3.SINGLE SOURCING OF THE BUYER.
THE CHAPS HAVE STOPED THINKING WITH GEORGE KUNDA

    • KAMANGA BOOTLICKER, pipo can say everything they want. But why cant the Govt prove all these allegations you have raised and bring the responsible pipo to book. Musokotwane has thrown a big challenge to the Govt. Let them prove him wrong.

    • Kamanga Bootlicker: What evidence have you been privilaged to, in terms of the valuation of Zamtel? Please list your sources for same evidence. If its the Post Newspaper or indeed Mr Sata’s prounouncements both pre and post Sept 20, then I would call on you to come to your senses and start fighting for what is right for Zambia.

    • Kamanga you are a moron. This deal was advertised. I was involved in the due dilligence for an international telecoms compnay and when we finished, Zamtel was so bad they walked away. And no, I am not an MMD supporter. Just a Zambian professional. How can a shortlist have been arrived at if the buyer was single sourced. All the major telecoms players walked away because Zamtel was in terrible financial shape. That only left LAP Green, the Angolan company and the other one from Russia. Please stop bootlicking and use your brains.

  10. All Accounting firms in Europe are facing problems because the advised wrong in banking. Likewise, it is possible that the accounting firm produced a report to reflect what their client wanted. This we all know does happen. In this case, the accounting firm’s report is used as a reason for the sale, thus achieving the desire by the comprodor elites to make money from the sale of ZAMTEL.

    • Dziko Langa: Please spare us from your Pub Gossip! Some people and organisations have reputations to drive their businesses forward while others have Vuvuzela’s to make as much noise!

  11. Mr Pande, that is why you are NOT the President and Mr Sata is the President to exercise the powers to appoint who ever he wants to act as President whilst he is out of the country.

Cheeky Pande, stay where you are and you will not be president in your lifetime.

  12. You Zambians are a bunch of fools. LAP green/gadaffi a shameless dictator comes, corrupts your GRZ acquires a strategic asset and you are all busy trying to justify it. Shamem Ask the same guys to produce the RP capital valuation report? Why did they refuse? Why the audit report and not the RP capital valuation report?

  13. Musokotwane, you are challenged to clearly clarify in detail why and how you acquired more than 1,000 bicycles and why they were hidden?

  14. #10 kubeba so your friend is an authority?i hope he was not a clerk. or did he sit on the board of management. you are just like  Pande. Musokotwane is talking about serious matters him his talking about Scout not being president. this is INTELLECTUAL PARALYSIS.

  15. #10 kubeba so your friend is an authority?i hope he was not a clerk. or did he sit on the board of management. you are just like  Pande. Musokotwane is talking about serious matters him his talking about Scout not being president. this is INTELLECTUAL PARALYSIS.
I know about zamtel than your friend and yet am remotely connected to it

  16. @ mwangumi stop insulting zambians and bellitling us. If you have nothing to say keep quite. Insulting anyone whether in government, in opposition or those outside politics is uncalled for. Blog with wisdom and avoid exposing your weaknesses.

  17. Ernest and Young, Delotte, KMPG etc.. name it all these bean counters are capable of anything…its big investment banks and global accounting firms that put us in this global mess called the  Recession we are in!!

  18. Lima Bank, Sun Hotel, Zanaco, Zamtel, single sourcing of contracts, corruption, Kunda’s double dealership, Mpundu Trust, Scanners, misapplication / misappropriation of funds in foreign mission, Gold sale, Poor road constructions, 2.1 billion buried in sand, Kamwala prison land, most expensive election ever with corrupt funds, expensive but failed costitution, short circuiting in mines licencing, 1000 bicycles for one man,+,+,+,+ …. and you still believe you are the best the rest are wrong! Its twisted logic from shrilled reasoning. Good luck Zambia.

    • Floyd: Your list is exactly what people are referring to as “empty” rhetoric! The is no substance apart from allegations made in the Post Newspaper and then hyped up through the Vuvuzela’s of the PF and their cadres.

  19. Musokotwane can you keep quite for a while. stop supporting Libya and support Zambia. Remember finance bank, what role did you play with Gareb Fundanga. That was okey for you! Double salaries when a lot of Tongas are in poverty! Building contractor auch all was well for you. Just keep quite for a while. Let other people’s minds correct your wrongs. you were in it and you never so anything wrong. Just wait, there is always a better way.

  20. EQUALISER you are totally a blind supporter and I think you are some editor along some road in Rhodes p. I love Sata but he is going to far. Anyways what crime does one commit if they decide to hide their cash? What offence has been given to Liato? He may have his reasons. I hate it when the President directs/orders/commands. Why can’t he call his people aside and let him talk to them in private and with his advisers. He should close his eyes and think…take in everything that is proposed on the table and just think. It is no good talkin talking…like a winding cloak. No twapapata. If you are close to him; tag his jacket or nudge him to COOL DOWN and BREATH. He needs yoga exercises or yin yang exercises. Otherwise he might kick start his heart problem. Love you ba Sata!

  21. Floyd chitalu; have you ever paused for a brief moment to ask yourself why it has taken over 3 months for the entire government maxchinery to take any of these allegations you are siting here to court for fair justice?
Don’t just rant like an empty tin without reason. Respond with interlect. The learned Dr has challenged the PF in an interlectual manner. Let them also respond point by point instead of generalising just like you are doing here. Muntu Mutwe!

  22. It is becoming increasing clear that the hiding behind “the fight against corruption” is slowly being exposed! and the naked truth slowly surfacing that this Govt has no strategy for anything significant for our Country. The cabinet will need to make this public so everyone can digest and be informed on what it is that was so corrupt about the sell of Zamtel. From the rhetoric so far, I do not think that the single sourcing of the evaluating company or indeed Lap Green is sufficent to make the whole illegal and warranting the reversal!

  23. PF respond to Zambians WHY your VP can not act as president in the absence of Mr.Sata? It is unjustifiable for PF to duck a simple question and we are in peril to entrust the economic affairs of our nation when an answer to simple 1+1=?.

  24. The head of state needs to be level headed, his hands are everywhere. He needs to focus on a vision for the country and start implementing. Right now things seem to be a bit haphazard and there is too great a focus on these few ‘corruption’ cases. These matters regarding corruption need to be handled by the police, justice department and judicial system in an impartial and open way that isn’t focused on creating media spin. The fact that the Post is so blatantly blind to his many constitutional breaches is also worrying. If corruption has indeed taken place due process should take place. I don’t think any one is against due process- what people are against is the fact that conjecture and hearsay is being passed off as fact by the president.

    • Very well articulated! The only problem here is that PF have no vision for this country and believe that by appearing strong on corruption they will be seen to be working. However, they do not realise that what is important is implementing strategies (to include fighting corruption) that will move the country in a forward direction. So far it appears the focus remains on corruption at the expense of the economy.

  25. I would like to add also that though due process should take place, the president has misplaced priorities. Zambian’s overwhelmingly voted out the previous government not because it was corrupt but because they want jobs. Of all the things that Mr. Sata said More money in people’s pockets is the one thing that stuck to people’s hearts. Economically speaking the previous government performed well, I think the IMF and several other notable instituitions are cited as saying that. However it was not good enough. The government needs to help create MILLIONS of jobs over the next 5 years otherwise it too will be kicked out. This means they need a solid economic vision and agenda for the country- at the moment that isn’t being communicated.

  26. GEORGE Kunda and his wife Ireen have sued the chairperson of a technical committee appointed by the President to probe the controversial sale of Zamtel to Libya’s Lap GreenN.

Hahahaha in 5  years SATA is going to make GK a very rich man. Keep taking them to court GK

  27. In this deal it seems there were money big time involved even the courts maybe be choked, just look at the number of bloggers who are trying to justify the unjustifiable. This reminds me of the support for RB just towards the 920 elections, there seem to have been big time cash involved in the MMD campaign that is why maybe some billions of kwacha ended up being buried.

The tendency by many Zambians that when it is fine with me it is okay should come to an end as this is what is driving many poor people in to abject poverty.

Let us not be self centered.

  28. I think the blogging should some how be regulated. Most of these bloggers I suspect are the same corrupt accused people commenting under fake names. LT how do you authenticate chaps are real?

  29. ba guy aba does he know the late tetamashimba? landa landa mission, forgetting that his friend chidumbo maliketi liato has a field of money and he too forgets about the 1000 injingaz. shud we say single sourcing was and has still been condemned by the same technocrats who were there in min of finance, zda etc. balakaka muzed, ask faustin kabwe and aaron chungu. put on top katele and the late dean mungomba

  30. Iam extremely impressed by the voices of reason being raised by the MMD leaders. Zambia is lucky to have such intellectually talented professional-politicians that MMD has nurtured so well. It is a marvel to hear and read what these men say and write for the love of Mother Zambia. PF Ministers reponses are so raw and perhaps even worse than comments made by the Marketeers at Soweto and Chisokone markets. We implore on Kachingwe, Kunda, Mabenga, Musokotwane, Pande, Siliya etc to press on to disserminate well articulated and reserached facts. We look up to these committed men and women for national salvation.

  31. Thes are very important issues raised. Some of us only believe facts hence we need to see that undervaluation in figures and not to be given blanket statements. Show us the COI report. The MMD took advantage of the masses because of blind loyalty the exact same thing people want to continue doing. We have to make politicians know that political office is not there to help them settle personal scores or enrich themselves.

  32. Keep it up Dr. Musokotwate to drill sense into some rusty brains. Iam extremely impressed by the voices of reason being raised by the MMD leaders. 33. Yes indeed! Keep it up Bo Ndate Dr. Musokotwate to drill sense into some rusty brains. Iam extremely impressed by the voices of reason being raised by the MMD leaders. 34. MUSOKOTWANE said that he never got two salaries at any time, however, state house produced the facts thet the man was actually paid for three months and up to date the man is quiet. let him com out straight on this issue otherwise we will not be taking him seriously.

  35. Why cant PF make the COI on Zamtel public than just doing their usual waffling. They have been challenged to make it public.Zamtel this and that please do us a favour and publish the document or shut up.

  36. I can tell bloggers here that PF has no DATA. Why CAN’T they respond to simple questions? There are more intelectuals in MMD than there are in PF.Hence you have the president yarping all sorts of things without verifying facts on the ground.

  37. PF government…Please SELL all Zambian ASSETS! we do not need them. Please give all of them away…ZESCO, ZANACO everyone of them coz this will not be a problem judging from peoples support of Zamtel being owned by ‘LIBYA’!! im sure if everything was sold, you would make Zambians really happy & proud of you!

  38. I am totally glad that the PF government is taking its time to respond to every Jim & Jacks querries! the issue of Guy Scott not acting is nothing…The King Cobra is waiting for a strategic moment when to react to this! & it is clear enough that the MMD & their Vuvuzela know nothing about strategy! All these other cases that u r talking about, its strategy working…evidence is being collected & when it is time to act, you will see all these GK’s lining up at Chimbokaila waiting to be taken inside!! U can only tackle an opponent with strategy coz half baked info will kill the hunt!!

  40. Have people heard Musokotwane speak? This fellow is dull. We know that the sale of Zamtel was corrupt, does not need a PhD to figure that out. Just because you have a PhD does not make you an authority. Why is Banda’s son hiding? Do you honestly think the valuation of Zamtel was accurate? Why would Zambia foot the bill for the purchase and yet hand over the majority of ownership? There is a report and it will prove this dull PhD wrong. Now the MMD is the voice of reason? Give me a break. I am for the government taking its time to ensure they have water tight cases. There is no need to rush. I am for Zambians not PF or MMD and definitely not UPND.
