Libya’s LAP Green says it is keen to have the current situation surrounding Zamtel resolved as soon as possible.

In a statement released to QFM,LAP Green Chairman Wafik Shater says they welcome any opportunity to work with the Zambian Government to secure a swift and positive outcome that benefits both Zambia and Zamtel.

Mr Shater says LAP Green sees a very positive future for the company under the joint ownership with the Zambian government, and looks forward to further growing the business and to continue making a major contribution to the Zambian economy.

He says LAP Green is deeply committed to the future of Zamtel, and that since acquiring the company for $257 million in June 2010,they have quadrupled its subscriber base, securing more than 800,000 subscribers by the start of 2012.

Mr Shater states that a vibrant Zamtel is helping to satrenghten the Zambian telecoms sector through competition and choice.

He adds that since June 2010,over 1,700 jobs have been created at Zamtel including distributors.

  1. Which Joint ownership when you bought the company dubiously? I.D.I.O.T.S.
I am resigning my position here to come and work with the government because I have seen alot of sence in everything they are doing. I HATE CORRUPTION. If any investor want to leave Zambia for fear of being probed for corruption cases, let them do so. Europe is in trouble, Africa is hot cake, especially countries like Zambia full of Natural resources. Zambia has alot of Minerals some of which have not yet been discovered. With no corruption, our Economy will improve. You can have better policies but go no where if the gvt is corrupt like MMD gvt.

  2. Oi shut it! Why are you worried Mr Wakei Al Fimo Fimo? Wait we will get back to you.

I know you have a job to keep but if Ala Bee and his minions didn`t do things properly, you better start dusting that passport. You will need it.

  3. “He adds that since June 2010, over 1,700 jobs have been created at Zamtel including distributors.”
AND HOW MANY JOBS WHERE LOST THE TIME YOU GOT THE 75% SHARE? IT SEEMS YOU ARE SCARED BECAUSE YOU ARE SEEING YOURSELVES LOOSING. WE DON’T NEED YOUR SWEET TALKS BECAUSE WE ARE NOT BABIES. EITHER YOU GET 25%SHARES OR WE GET TO RUN THE WHOLE ZAMTEL FOR OURSELVES.
SATA IS NOT RUPHIA BANDA AND IF YOU THINK YOU CAN TAKE HIM FOR GRANTED, THEN YOU ARE STANDING AT THE BRINK OF YOUR GRAVES.
    STOP SWEET TALKING US.

    • State controlled companies always fail – they over employ, are inefficient, make losses, etc. Zamtel has already been there.

  5. With the incompetence shown by the current crop of leadership, Mr. Wafik Shater will be laughing all the way to the bank! Quite uninspiring rhetoric coming from State house and other wings of Boma!

  6. CANT WAIT TO HAVE OUR ZAMTEL BACK—–SO THAT THE SECURITY OF OUR BELOVED ZAMBIA IS NOT COMPROMISED

  7. Zamtel had to be recapitalized one or another, I mean the company was insolvent – its not a secret. If the process of that recapitalization was faulty, I don’t think the resolution would be to ‘repossess’ it. PF is making the same mistakes the MMD made. Instead of rushing to make grand-standing statements, they should objectively look at the wrongs if any, discovered by the COI, announce what those are, and then propose proper corrective actions going forward. If wrongs were committed, the chaps concerned should be taken to the courts of law and b punished. Not just yapping and yapping

  8. Zambians will regret his emotional advocacy for repossession of ZAMTEL, i hope cabinet makes a decision based on wat will be best for this country and damage control and not on how many ppo make noise

  9. Zamtel back to zambians please and make the Libyans pay the zambia workers for the perion out of jobs. Employees were given peanuts!

  10. Please let us have some rest. There has been too much drama in the nation since 3 months ago.We are winning and preparing for the peace of God.

  11. Reverse the fraudulent transaction and you will win respect PF govt. It will be consistent with you crusade to fight corruption. ZAMTEL is a national asset. Selling it compromises our security. Why has Telcom, British Telecoms and many other not been privatised. Just make it commercially viable. **==

  12. Zambian first corrupt investor last. Zambians lets put our country first and defend our freedom and values, investors must know that Zambia is a country with people who love their country. abashi corrupt investors

  13. Paying LAP green $1 billion just for political expediency will crash that craap economy. Let them do it so that someone can finally see what educated people can already see.

  14. There is unrefutable evidence that Zamtel was insolvent and a financial burden on Govt coffers. Now the Govt is receiving income from this company in the form of taxes both PAYE and corporate tax and that is in addition to the $300 million dollars it received for an ailing company. Yet some people continue to strongly argue that it should be renationalised just because it’s for Zambians. Who in the right senses runs a failing business and continue to pump in money just because it’s there own business? Sooner or later the pockets will run dry… Money never grows on trees not even when it’s planted – ask Liato. The national security issue is nonsense and a non starter. And @Mwanabinyi above, British Telecom is a private company owned by shareholders.

  15. You chaps amaze me, you have short memories. The issue is that Zamtel was stolen by Gadaffi and it must be taken back. LT that is why I am proposing that introduce a way where pipo blog with correct names. Some of these blogers might be the same characters who sold zamtel
