Former Finance and National Planning Minister in the Rupiah Banda government Situmbeko Musokotwane has urged Republican President Michael Sata to tone down.

Speaking in an interview with Qfm, Dr. Musokotwane who is also Liuwa MMD Member of Parliament says the recent remarks attributed to President Sata in the media are not suitable for a head of state.

Dr. Musokotwane referred to a recent statement in which President Sata labeled former Republican Vice President George Kunda as a dullest lawyer in Africa for his claims that Dr Guy Scott does not qualify to hold the office of vice president.

He explains that such public utterances against perceived enemies will judge President Sata harshly and further calls on him to tone down.

And Dr. Musokotwane has charged that the poor performance of the Kwacha against major currencies is an indication that Zambia is paying the price for government’s failure to provide confidence in the country’s economy.

He says if not quickly addressed, the trend is likely to cause disparities in the country’s economy where imports will be much more expensive than exports.

And Former Commerce, trade and industry Minister Felix Mutati has predicted a difficult 2012 for Zambia.

Mr. Mutati says this is because the country seems to be very fatigued economically.

He points to the erosion of the kwacha which has continued to lose its strength against major currencies.

Mr. Mutati says it is thus important for the PF government to ensure that it is prepared for hard times ahead.

He has further proposed to the government to put emphasis on promoting Zambian business persons by ensuring that they have access to short and long term financing.

He was speaking to Q FM business News.

  1. Just the tip of the iceberg!!!Soon time we will be the next Zimbabwe & all because of ”Donchi kubeba”.Wapya munzi……..wina azalila!!!1

  2. There is a price to pay for change. Some investors will hold on to their money until the water settles but after that things will normalise and that is when it will be right time to judge the PF.

  3. In all honesty, these two should be the last individuals to be advising the PF government, on how to run the economy. They were corrupt and still are. Under their economic leadership, the vultures from all over the world had descended on Zambia, and the country was slowly but surely being stripped clean and today today, they are playing the role of saints? The sooner they are locked up the better.

  4. MWEMBUSHI MWE! THIS IS THE SITUATION YOU CREATED DURING YOUR REIGN AND NOW YOU WAKE UP FROM YOUR SLEEP WITH THE VIEW TO ADVISE. WHY DON’T YOU ALL SHUT UP AND WATCH THE COUNTRY COLLAPSE FROM AFAR. IF YOU WANT TO BE ADVISERS THEN GO MY PRESIDENT IN PERSON AND ASK HIM FOR THAT POSITION. IMBECILE!

    • You Lier.. Who the hell told you the economy is doing badlyt???? lier.. we are pushing… whether MMD, UPND or PF run, th ecopper is being pushed, factories are being constructed we are moving… and business doesn’t care about policticians.. you miss informed dull chap .. rate moves from K4,900/$1 to K5,100/$1 and you start making noise. crap

  5. If you don’t have time to do it right, you must have time to do it over. The PF has time to do it right and above what the MMD did. Lets wait, pray for them and see what the God of our beloved Zambia will do. My prayer is that, God almighty grants our leaders the wisdom to think and do that which is right. God bless Zambia!

  6. Felix Mutati and Situmbeko Musokotwane from the previous CORRUPT MMD gvt are now advising gvt what they should do with economy? We do not want anything to do with these rotten people. We kicked them out and we do not want to see their urgly faces again let alone advise. Just wait for the law to catch up with you…

  7. These chaps are dishonest and dull like thoise that listen to them… seriously… When RB took over the Kwacha devalued massively from Levy’s K4,200 to around K4,900 and remained there for the whole of RBs corrupt and fiancially indisciplined term!!! the rate actually depreciated to K5,100 in August way before elections which every ineternational organisation and every other person in Zed thought RB/MMD would win but for dont kubeba!!. The rate has hovered around there and closed at a mid rate of K5,100 yesterday!!!.. and who said a slightly weaker Kwacha was necessarily a problem. As long as GDP in USD remains strong and exports high, a weaker currency strengthens exports and drives growth and jobs. What do they think is behind the US v China Trade war? Its the weaker yaun!!

    • Well articulated, in simple words. Zambians hear weak Kwacha and the think it’s more expensive to import Mercedes lol, not know it’s easier for locals to export and produce goods to sell to Maputo, southern Rhodesia and Nyasaland lol. Namibia and Botswana as well. Please educate them a little more lol. Thanks for truly being patriotic.

  8. These Two should not be prophets of Doom after what they put us through….they made sure they stripped this country before leaving office and now they want to start making uninformed statements?….

  9. These failures and thieves are just trying to divert attention from on-going police investigations. Musokotwane should explain why he had more bicycles at his home than all the shops in Kamwala. Mutati shold go and sort out his private life – he is not leadership material

  10. H.E shd indeed tone dowm!i equally dont xpect hm to say things only aimed at humiliatg hs enemies wen we nid hedlines wich will inspires us!there shd be a difference btwn pf opostion leader n the head of state.

  11. The two have no moral right to condemn the current Govt, they are *****s and part the of the corrupt former regime, why didn’t they advise RB and his Dora against the corrupt sell of Zamtel? to hell with them.

  12. What do you expect when everyday Zambia is being fed on corruption rhetoric. No economic direction or whatsoever just chasing shadows.

  13. Indeed we were told this government of kaponyas by kaponyas for kaponyas is visionless all they think of is pay back time.
Satana does not even know what GDP is ,that is asking too much from this grade two drop out.
For sure the country is in trouble we need a COI about the kwacha headed by Sebastain Zulu!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. @Clive Chanda, I think you have got one of your facts wrong. We are still awaiting substantive evidence, courts trials and convictions over the corruption attributed to the previous admin. And in all fairness the Zambian economy was at it’s best for 37 years while the same two were responsible. So maybe they do have one or two things to say that the current admin should at least lessen to

  15. zambia is heading the zimababwe way very very fast.that is why we are leaving your poor country. Please let us stop buying their copper.

  16. Just raising alarms before getting to the bottom of matters, countless commissions which yield nothing, i am told there were no findings at Building society just commissioners who were being K2.1 million per day, what a government

  17. # 5 Clive Chanda. PF govt has not found any of the two guys guilty of any case except false political rhetoric from govt that has failed to spell out an economic road map for the nation with a strategy to counter the in setting economic disaster. MMD may have made mistakes and individuals are being taken on by PF govt which everyone welcomes. However, the intelligence of the two in managing the economy speaks for itself with growth, infrastructure building, investor confidence and overall agricultural performance. Against this back ground they have the audacity to advise PF govt. After all such competent men are missing in PF and to achieve what MMD did will be an uphill battle.

  18. The two are impressive economic giants. There is none as such in PF. Those who claim the were stealing, what did they steal anyway?

  19. Mutati – yesterday the FT’s heading was that 2012 will be a gloomy year for the world economy. So don’t say it is because of sata – the whole world is slowing down this year. You should acknowledge your sources you plagarist, adulterer, wife-stealing and bicycle thieves

  20. The embattled Musokotwane can hardly keep his mouth shut, week in and week out he is in the news repeating his chorus. Is he a frightened man having sleepless nights? If I were him I would just zip-up my mouth and lie low.

  21. @23 & 20, It’s a worry and Muna dekhane, I concede that the investigations are still ongoing, however, the facts that have surfaced, clearly point to the two being very flawed individuals who made some very highly questionable decisions. I will be shocked brothers if they walk away guiltiless. I made my statement based on the current available facts in the public domain. Of the two Situmbeko, is standing on quick sand, Mutati, is the one who should tone down, there are issues still to be exposed in his dealings.

  22. You can’t reason with a kaponya. Musokotwane and Mutati gave the president sound advice. The President would do well to listen to the learned duo.

  23. # Clive Chanda. I believe you are speaking from an informed source and has established what you base your views on. As at now the previous regime scored a number of successes in various fields. The UK Financial Mail (Oct 2010) when made commentry about China investments in Africa rated Zambia as the most preferred country for investment in Sub Sahara Africa. Such record dont come easy, just to mention one story. Both Dr Musokotwane and Mr Mutati were ministers. Yes corruption was there and thats the reason PF govt has put up this much talked fight and we all support it. At the same time PFgovt or its ministers can not be closer to records just stated in terme of success story. You may say its too early, give me signals of solid economic direction.

  24. PF govt has muted so far. I speak from results evidenced by your self when you acknowledge that copper prices were high hence ecomic growth. This was combined with world acknowledged economic policies. PF govt in one of their frequent campaigns made it clear to do away with Chinese ‘Infesters’. Today they have backpaddled sending jittery not only to Chinese but world at lagre. This is why Dr Muso is calling for Mr Sata to tone down. PF govt as at now can not talk of any achievement but can only give us indicators on how they handle the national economic issues and governance for an enabling environment. That so far raises more questions than answers.

  25. CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER!

Dysfunctional as it is, the PF regime is a boat of constituted dry bones. They have no life, no functional Plan in them and have kept proving their visionlessness. It’s a train wreck before us all to be salvaged. No doubt Mr. Sata re-nationalization utopia is heading for a historic crisis ponderous in magnitude beyond what Zimbabwe and Burma has been in. Unless he gets out of his opposition idealistic political utopia suit, the real world phenomena might overwhelm this regime and irredeemably sink the whole country in a national crisis. We could see socio-economic dislocations and damaging self created rescission from progress God forbid. For the love of the country this regime needs help from everyone.

  26. @clive chanda,

ulebepafye noko umusula, just accept the fact that mutati is brilliant and can not be matched by any coolie in pf,from the boss to the ward councillor.he has never been cited in any impropriety and he will never ever, even situmbeko musokotwane is equally clean the issue of bicycles is a non starter.a bicycle is only 50usd in jinan in china so if sata can not afford that situmbeko can because even their profile differs.yes they mixed with crooks like liato and dora but in any grouping there are exceptionals and it`s those two and kabinga

  27. The Felix and Musokotwana are TALKING SENSE listen to them (Whether they are corrupt, stole or not). They are talking sense and you ignore their advice at your own peril.

  28. musokotwane, mapuli yobe.Utomba noko, nimwe bene ba MMD misula yenu mwaletaInsala mu Zambia kundalama mwaiba nokufisa mumapuli yenu,na mu finyo fyenu.Zambia tatuli bacushi, lelo muli nokucimona PF ala micita icintu mwebana ba mubucende mweeeeee.

  29. @Dekhane et Al(i.e Banda supporters) Zambia’s improved economy was partly due to the privatisations that were forced on the Chiluba regime by the World Bank and the IMF, which led to a huge chunk of the country’s debt being written off and this enabled the country to make significant foreign exchange savings. Definitely not any brilliant economic policy. My brother, never take praise from economic magazines as always genuine.

  30. @Joe Hunter, insele tashitwala nangukumo. Yes, Mutati, is smart but not brilliant. Do not defend the indefensible. Investigations are ongoing as I was reminded by those Zambians who blogg intelligently, and am not keen to debate people who isult others, such people are normally angry cowards. You insult my mother you are insulting your own mother.

  31. Musokotwane with more than 1000 bicycles for personal use and Mutati womaniser, what can you advise PF. You are too dirty in the eyes of most zambians, just shut up and wait for the law to visit you soon.

  32. Clive Chanda@ 28. The issue I have is how powerful misinformation becomes when fed to the gullible who will believe anything as long as it comes from the mouth of their perceived hero. In your response @28, you claim that the “facts that have surfaced, clearly…” My understanding is that a fact is a fact (absolute) and cant be disputed. And if you are privy to the facts that expose these two as corrupt, then peharps share that, together with the sources, so that we join you in distain. However, if your opinion is based on the media reports and presidential pronouncements then peharps you need to take a longer view, indeed question how reliable these sources are.

  33. Can I also add that there are many factors that contribute to a thriving economy, including economic policies, political climate, man power and of course the items to point to including market prices. However, those facets dont just fall in place and the sitting administration will always take credit for the good times and invariable they will also take the blame when all falls apart. The current political climate (lack of economic policies and unsolicited rhetoric from the President) in Zambia is no doubt contributing to any uncertainity that is prevailing among investors. It would be naive to think otherwise

  34. Me thinks it’s YOU Musokotwane that needs to tone down you m.onk.ey of a f.oo.l! Tone down until you are cleared of pending cases against you!! Why have you suddenly become the loudest tin in the pile, even outdoing Shikapwasha who has strangely gone dead silent? What are you scared of?

  35. Musokotwane and Mutati are simply brilliant. Dont kill the experts. Abash PHDs (Pull Him or Her Down). PF like a husband provide direction in the house the women and children will follow. Its difficult to follow a parked car.

  36. @41&42 It’s a worry, I agree with you there are many factors that contribute to economic development. Clearly, in our country, the price of copper played a key role, the writing off of the debt played another significant role. Zambia, as you know has always been at peace. But let me again concede that comrade Bwezani, can claim the kudos because this happened on his watch. As for brilliant economic policies, I will beg to differ. As for Pf let them finish cleaning up and let’s see how they will perform, they have been written off too quickly. As for Mikaeli Chilufya Sata, he is a different president, what you see is what you get. He is action man wait and see. all the best brother for 2012.

  37. @ It’s a worry, do you recall that as a result of Mikaeli’s stance towards the Chinese, when he assumed power they increased Zambian salaries by 86% and this derided PF administration is continuing championing the rights of the Zambian workers, while the previous MMD administration championed the rights of the employers. Surely, when you read the findings of the Zulu commitee, do you think it is biased? I doubt it very much. Be patient and you will be shocked by the revelations which will emerge as investigations continue in varous spheres of our country.

  38. Musokotwane is a corrupt person and I asy this because any person who lives in UK will agree with me where can Musokotwane get the money he bought the house in one of the most expensive area in London? This area for a two bedroom cost £1.5million to £2million. This is the area for the most powerful, famous and the richiest. So when these corrupt elements make noise we say to them tone your voices because we will help our govt through the British Govt to report these individuals so that this can be given back to the people of Zambia. Many crookes and corrupt individuals have bought mansions in South Africa, Italy, Spain, UK and we are aware of these properties how they are acquired. Senior Citizen we know you and having worked for the underworld, I have proof beyond any doubt to nail

  39. Number 47, you’re totally lying. I know that family and I 100% know that they do not own any property out of Zambia. Stop peddling rumours and lies.

Check your facts before you start lying about people.

  40. number 12 is an economic ***** the kwacha was 4,920 on 19th september 2011. Just tell them to improve dont dat dream baba

  41. ECONOMIC FREE FALL – there are no surprises, this is straight out of chimbwis book of predictions – i actually agreed that he was insane and exaggerating. all that is left on the list is the civil war i guess (and with the tribal tensions currently looming even that is not such a far cry). AMAFI YEKA YEKA and the disciples are still in a fools paradise and shooting well meaning words of caution from the duo that put us on the map economically as an emerging economy powerhouse. It doesnt matter now anyhow as we head back to the 70s to 80s era, complete with ROP and such dysfunctional draconian state controlled companies. dont kubeba ati balanya!

  42. most of the contribution from the bloggers are useless. let talk sense and give solution to the problem at hand why behaving childish ways. people should learn to mature. zambia is for all of not this politicians who come and go.

  43. Frustrations should not be expressed through insults but a well planned approach should be arranged at the provincial and national levels so that the govt. is constantly aware of the people’s immediate needs and long term projects.
