Zamtel has assured the general public of its commitment to the continued extensive network expansion programme and and the growth of its customer base following the Government’s recent takeover of the institution.
In a statement released today, Zamtel Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mupanga Mwanakatwe, said the company will continue to pursue an agressive growth path, adding that operations have continued to run smoothly since he assumed office on January 25.
Dr. Mwanakatwe has also paid tribute to Zamtel employees for their professional conduct and their dedication towards the growth of the nation’s sole total communication solutions provider.
“Our ambitious growth and investment plans remain fully on-track. We are, for instance, currently in the initial phase of relacing our copper wire network with with a modern state-of-the art optical fibre network. Our 3G roll out plan is also on course and very soon we shall be inviting some of our valued customers to participate in product testing,” said Dr. Mwanakatwe.
He said the company is committed to running as a profitable entity dedicated to making a meaningful and lasting contribution to national development.
Dr. Mwanakatwe also expressed confidence in the Zambian talent within Zamtel saying working as a focused, driven and motivated team, the company shall attain great successes.
The new Zamtel CEO has further called on stakeholders to support the country’s largest communication solutions provider by signing up for its wide range of products and services cutting through its three product descriptors – Fixed line, mobile and broadband data.
He made an assurance that Zamtel will remain highly innovative, efficient and competitive, saying it is imperative that Zambians and businesses show confidence in their own home-grown communication partner and brand.
“Our biggest stakeholder is the Zambian people and if we are to show leadership as is expected of us, it is imperative that we have their support,” said Dr. Mwanakatwe.
Beat the odds and remain focused. Do not be swayed by politicians but have a steady fast approach to the ambitious efforts before you. We can do it.
Beat the odds and stay focused people. Its times we assumed making and directing our future.
mr new CEO, please check with the public purse manager(Chikwanda) b4 committing a public company to expansion (I assume new capital will be required in this expansion). you may be surprised by the fact that all non budgeted for money has been used in the creation of new districts.
Using whose money? LAP Green’s money that you froze? Wait and see this Zamtel, ‘our’ Zamtel fail. In fact, those always saying our Zamtel our Zamtel, chances are you are on either Airtel or MTN. Idyots!
Yep use lap greens money and pay it back later. Or and all you fools who say u are educated n nationalization is a thing of the past guess again lap green was owned by a gov and it run zamtel ok. So we can also do it we just need CEOs that are innovative instead of waiting for govement funding use company profits to expand. N make sure all gov dept pay there bills on time or disconnect them finish.
Manage it properly, not ati cha Boma
as a parastatal this i wait to see.
The stambling block is govt of the day in running of parastatals. I haven’t heard of any reforms in the way parastatals will be run in Zambia. On what basis will the running of today’s Zamtel be different from the past?
You are dead without money. Where will Zamtel get money for capital investment, from Govt?
The CEO is wrong in asking for stakeholders the way he’s doing. That kind of thinking is misdirected, it will sink the company. Zamtel should aim to be competitve. Zambians will not buy their service on the basis of patriotism. In fact, Zambians shunned Zamtel in the past. The CEO is talking like a political cadre and not a business man. It also seems he will target Govt for business, being a stakeholder according to his understanding. Yet Govt does not pay bills, they caused old Zamtel serious financial problems due to unpaid bills.
This CEO needs to be careful, already he doesn’t sound the right man to take Zamtel fwd in this cut throat competitive industry.
@ #9, ice road trucker, read the Drs stament again, he said…..“Our biggest stakeholder is the Zambian people and if we are to show leadership as is expected of us, it is imperative that we have their support,” said Dr. Mwanakatwe. He is saying if we are to show leadership…., to me that clarifies your concerns. The Dr is ready to lead and propell the company, so if zamtel services improve as aresult of good leadership why cant we support our company. Seriously speaking, we should learn to take care of what belongs to us. Airtel and MTN will make their money and externalise it while Zamtel money will help to build our much needed hospitals.
False hope. Just wait and see the boat sinking. I end here!
There goes my tax payer money on unbudgeted for expansion :o and now i hear former zamtel employees want to be re-instated uko!
Zamtel should just save that mopney to pay LAP green, Mupanga dont waste money yankongole on styupid ego fueled expansions, ulekutika?
Kwekwe, I agree with you. Lets support our own brands. When we do that we can also demand nothing but hundred percent service delivery from Zamtel. That is what we need to do. And you guys at Zamtel, your service delivery MUST be above board.
