Clifford Laments Expulsion

Share

Expelled Zambia national team winger Clifford Mulenga says what he did was wrong.

The attacking winger insisted before leaving Equatorial Guinea on Tuesday that he still believed he was a sacrificial lamb in Mondays drinking scandal in Malabo.

“Yes what I did was wrong but to single me out was not fair because I wasn’t the only one who went out,” Mulenga said who also revealed on Wednesday that he was never asked to apologize and was simply told to leave camp.

Mulenga said he had also spoken to club officials back at Bloemfontein Celtic over the incident on Tuesday who counseled him over the incident.

Mulenga was expelled from the teams camp on Tuesday just after the Zambia returned from Malabo where they beat Equatorial Guinea 1-0 in  the two teams final Africa Cup Group A match to finish 1st and  2nd.

The player flew out from Malabo for Johannesburg via Addis Ababa on an Ethiopian Airlines flight.

  1. Yes, someone has to take responsibility for wrong doings and this time it was your turn. Sorry. Now move over for the boys to finish the job!!

  2. Why should you be told to apologise? An apology must come from the offender without solisting, you deserve what you got.

  3. booze mwaiche.you lose your dignity.you could have waited especially that you knew you were not in good books with the coach.now even at your club they have second thoughts on you, just because of one silly mistake

  4. Very few really talented footballers are disciplined. I remember Willie Kalepa, such brilliance but so indisciplined. Zoom Ndhlovu expelled him in Saudi Arabia. Then that short Zulu who won 2 consecutive top player awards in an Africa Youth cup tournament in West Africa. Failed to get a good professional contract and was expelled in SA for drinking. Look at our Mbesuma who was always late back to his clubs in SA. Chola stole in Botswana despite his immense skills. Ballotelli is another chintomfwa. It is incredible why talented chaps misbehave this way. I hope wasambilila iwe. Learn from Kalu you kids.

    • Pride of their talents lead to show off. Look at Balloteli how he celebrates goals dipicting in an awkward position. Proudly > only fans to judge :( For this Mulenga, If Zambia win Gold, they will keep Renards, hence Mulenga will be finished :d

  5. very stupid kolwestan boy!! ati he wanted to be asked to apologize? he is very stupid! umwaiche her mother balimutumpika sana….sad this happened all coz of stupid boys. Advice: DONT PLAY WITH MBESUMA

  6. It is good of him to confes that what he did was wrong. By sending the player away, the coach has clearly shown that no player is bigger than the team. This should be a lesson to the rest.

  7. This is the indiscipline that is letting our football down and tarnishing our image. You mean you failed to hold on just one more week ( stay away from booze and nakuchinda) for the sake of zambia? surely you can even wank and no one will know if you want to relieve yo tension. such behaviour is not only embarrassing but unacceptable. if we dont get the cup this time bonse mwanya

  8. The next game is days away. I am sure the boys deserve a few hours to tour the new town drink and screw some holes. All work no play mad Johnny a dull boy.

  9. Why would the coach call Clifford only to send him back? Its time they learn how to achieve what has been impossible for Zambia. Mbesuma has reformed and is very self conscious. He knows that he has a bad reputation. I have been with him in Cape Town and he is always reminding you that people watch him so he is careful. He has worked had to earn his place at Arrows. Some of us talked bad when he was taken on and off..Renard is good to know that the game needs a change of strategy.. you saw what Felix did after that. Clifford is not witch hunted.

  10. So he expected some one to tell him to apologise. Hahhh poor reasoning zoona. swallow your stupid pride and apologise to the nation openly for wasting tax payers money mambala iwe.

  11. He knew the rules before he went out, why expect to be asked to apologise.

With HIV / AIDS so prevalent in Africa, its amazing that bloggers can even think of the por guy go have illicit s e x to women he’s never known before, in a foreign land for that matter.

  12. Clifford sad for you boy. Please when you are in camp away from home naiwe mwaiche kuichindika two weeks is not much to stay away fro fibarabara abaiche banomba ukutemwa ubwalwa now nwa nomba you deserve this punishment.you will soon be clubless behave you would have died a little for mother zambia watusebanya nangu lupundu just two weeks teti mwise sansa kumwenu kanofye ukefwako ichanakashi chafita amatako.Change mwaice uzaitaya football life is short.See great KALU

  13. Dear friends! As a nation, we should treasure discipline at all costs..in all fields of life..family, sports, academic life, etc. I have lived and studied in many countries and know the challenges that foreigners face in terms of culture, relationships, weather etc.But discipline is discipline. We can’t abuse ourselves because we are far from home. The whole nation is looking up to us.The young are looking for role models to look up to. Sometimes, God allows such things so that we learn a lesson. So, Clifford, learn something and be focussed. We are all trying to build a better Zambia.

  14. Zambian soccer players are a problem. They have forgotten what they went for to e.guinea.Discipline is part of the game,if we loose the next game don’t blame the coach.Players shud emulate Kalu.

  15. Has the team manager fired yet for all these trashing of our beautiful football? Where is that hater The Post Newspaper *****ic Augustine Mukoka to mess up the delegation officials??

  16. Clifford mwaiche after we stuck out for you thats the best response you could come up with?? I hereby offer my services to all Zambian football players to help them control any spin to enhance there their public images! That said it is important to note that instead of jumping to expel the player as quick as he did, the coach should only have used that as a last resort. And why allow any drinking during a championship in the first place? A lot is NOT adding up thats why we need comprehensive statements from all parties involved and have these players re-educated on the proper etiquette especially during a period such as this. Dont these clowns know they can drink as much as they want after winning the tournament??? No wonder we are called a nation of drunks!!!

  17. Clifford deserves what he got. Do you remember how Rooney was suspended and Rio too after a party organised by Rio some years ago , i think during the christmas period. Discipline is discipline and the coach should never be afraid to suspend or send back players. the nation is holding its breath and these boys have got to be focused. The worst of them was sent home and the others involved should be dealt with later. But Renard that shouting at your assistants in front of the whole world, thats totally out of order, waumfwa iwe ?! i was not impressed. Meanwhile, ka clifford, sort yourself out. playing for zambia is a privilege not a right!!!

  18. What an *****, so he was waiting to be asked to apologise! Fuseke, there other people who can do the job! Well done coach for sending this self centred embicile home.

  19. Whats wrong with a night out after a good win when the next game is days away? How many of you Zambians clubbed till down on that day? Come on they are in new territory they ought to see night life and freshen up.Clifford was just imposed on HR by the fans and its obvious the coach had a grudge against this lad.

  20. Whilst I agree that Clifford Mulenga was wrong, I feel he should have been forgiven for the sake of tax payers money spent on him to the African cup nations. The Bible say forgive 70 X 70 times.
Also I feel these players who are picked on the final list must be given an opportunity to play and sales themselves to the big teams .Let stop being jealous on these small boys. Lets support them .I know every time Clifford Mulenga is called to play for the National team his not give the opportunity to play .I wonder why FAZ and the coach even waste there time and our money calling him he is not the right material for the National team. Zambia is like to lose the next game as punishment for the unfair treatment to Clifford Mulenga.

  21. I like Clifford Mulenga lets nature him and show him the rightful way to go. There is an idiomatic expression in LOZI which says MWA MBWA YA MUSALI KUSWANA INGE MWA SITINDI.KUKONA KUZWA MUSIYOKA, TAPI, SIMBOTWE etc mean in the stomach of a women it’s like in a fish pond you can get a snake, frog, fish etc. Meaning all those players who and well behave and bad behave are ours and lets accommodate the use them wisely us who are wise. It’s not good to let the talent in Clifford Mulenga to go without been properly utilized for the benefit of the Nation. Let’s forgive the BOY please. Let him be taught how to apologies you, who know.

  22. Let him be taught good manners so that he can save the national team better and the nation at lager. Kalusha Bwalya has made mistake, This Mwanza at FAZ has made mistakes and well all make mistakes .Country men and women let’s learn to forgive each other. That way we are going to Development as a country.
Clifford Mulenga I wish well in your life and GOD’S blessing Amen.

  23. Clifford shit happens its not the end of world, your young man show remorse change for the better and be the star you should be for Zed but as a fellow chakolwa ya so you know you coach is no nosense guy just buy a chi bomb mitondo obvious vodka is there drink mu room make noise quietly then go for the vi ma hotel maids KWASILA NYELE SOLVED

  24. Gentlemen…this has nothing to do with him Bemba. It is just a discipline issue.. mind your language. Discipline is key.

  25. clifford is a very foolish boy, he still has that pride of being the young African footballer of the year in 2007, instead of improving himself and achieve more, he is now coming back from the AFCON with a mess. foolish boy, he will never progress in his footbal career becuase of that pride.

  26. If only Zambian players realised that while they play for Zambia at such competitions, they are also potentially putting themselves in a position where agents could pick them up and make them very rich. Samuel Etto is now the highest paid footballer in the world! Not even Pele or Maradona ever got so much money. Can you imagine what it would do to the Zambian economy if just 5 Zambian players were to play in the world top leagues and earn $200,000 per week?

Brazilian teams have earned over $9 billion selling players to European leagues.

  28. Well done coach this sends message to all those that does think it is a right to be on Chipolopolo team……….shit happens young Mulenga, next time never ever go drinking when on National duty!Apology should have come first from your own worst mouth and not to wait so that coach asks you to…………a young lamb

  29. it doesnt matter who was expelled or not what matters is discipline to all. well done renard. keep it up mwana

  30. Its Water under the bridge! as long as it was done according to FAZ disciplinary procedure.
Ba LT, ask Herv to use Jonas in saturdays game. Also tel Renard to use Chisamba Lungu in his natural position , not ati am making him a defender how?, is destroying his career the boy is a sharp, natural and talented midfielder he can partner with Kalaba to supply balls to Mayuka and Jonas up there.. Lastly Advise the coach to make changes that will impact postively on the perfomance and not to worsen the situation. Guys like Chamanga, Felix,Mbesuma have faild to perfom this time around.
    Good Lucky Chipolopoloploploploploploploplo!!!!! WWWWEEELLLEE!

  31. What Clifford meant is that he was NOT given a chance to explain and possibly apologize for his actions. Its like showing up late at school and the teacher just says “go back home!” without asking you why you were late. Or your uncle’s wife just throwing out your katundu just because she has had enough of you because you were ‘imposed’ on her!
