Newly crowned African champions Zambia have four players making the 2012 CAF XI.

It is the first time in 15 years that any Zambian players have made a high profile on the CAF XI compiled at the end of each Africa Cup.

Goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene of Free State Stars in South Africa, strikers Emmanuel Mayuka of Swiss side Young Boys and CAF Player of the tournament Christopher Katongo from Henan FC in China were named into the team.

Mayuka also won the 2012 Africa Cup top scorers award on three goals based on assists.

Also in is TP Mazembe defender Stoppila Sunzu.

Strangely, Sunzu’s club mate and midfielder Rainford Kalaba has been relegated to the list of 12 players on substitute’s bench.

Kabala has had an outstanding tournament even though he had a very subdued performance in the final against Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday in Libreville that Zambia won 8-7 on post-match penalties.

  1. This is great. I still dont believe that we are THE GREAT CHAMPIONS IN AFRICA. Somebody to pince me please so that i get to know that am not dreaming. Wooooooooooooooo

  2. I can see Katongo moving to Europe soon. He is a desciplined player. But that depends on the money China will offer him.China has money.

  3. Congrats! I hope Katongo can come to Europe. Hope other Chipolopolo boys will find themselves in Europe, or England so we can see them more. They belong to Elite football. Like Champions League.

  4. If Kennedy Mweene was not a Tonga or UPND supporter, we would have won the game in 90 mins!! Anyway Congrats guys but next time dont pick on this guy as he is fond of handling the ball outside the 8 yard area.

  5. A waiter asked drogba at a trendy resturant where the ivorian was dinning, why he was using a plate to drink his tea. he responded, ‘the zambians got my cup’

  6. Mweene is the MAN, period! Yes, Katongo is too good to be in china…wtf. Let’s now see how these top club scouts react. We are not taking a smal change contracts. We are after all the Champions of african football. Respect that!!!!!

  7. iam watching the procession(s) from the airport to lusaka show grounds and i tell you its a total disaster. why are we subjecting our young heroes to such archaic organisation? my foot!! stop that and let the boys rest and baske in glory alone. not what i have watched on poorly arranged znbc cameras. whoever is behind these organisations should be taken to task cos he had more than a week to arrange this “thunderous welcome” but opted to go to sleep and endangered the lives of our heroes. what a shame.

  8. Mweene is probably the best goal keeper in Africa but unfortunately he is on the small side. European teams like them big – very few exceptions like Pepe Reyna (Liverpool) and Shay Given (Aston Villa). Hopefully someone will give him a chance to play in Europe. I think time has come for Zambian players to earn big buks in Europe.

  9. Mweene is really incredible, he outshined in the goal post in the just ended afcon 2012. his skill is just rare and splendid.

  10. I agree with 13 the arrangement at the airport was poor. they should have consulted from former winners of the trophy on how to organize such an event. Our heroes were at risky. Congratultions Chipolopolo for making us proud.

  11. Sunzu to join my team Arsenal … The guys make me proud to be Zambian. I realised how far I am from home when I could not share the victory with the guys in the office. They are all English and Yorkshire men and only talked about cricket.

  12. This just shows that if Zambians unite we can reach greater heights. Our boys selected from all corners of the country, and from all tribes, have just done pride to Zambia. imagine what we can achieve in other sectors if we were to use of the available talents we have, besides tribal

  13. Poetic justice; oh what a sweet victory and honor! I still remember getting home for dinner that fateful day in 1993 only to find my big man wailing, with the kitchen radio glued to his ear tuned to VOA while simultaneously listening to BBC Network Africa on the big stereo. What’s going on I asked; we’ve lost our entire national team, he replied. I just wish he were here to see the coveted cup brought home, he loved the national team to bits. RIP ze Bige, our boys have done it.

  14. mulenga 9 you are not a bemba stop playing dirty, why want to cause confusion, its gud zambians ignore such rubbish contributions,Gentlemen lets deliberatly avoid responding to silly comments such as the one by that boy nick named mulenga. One zed one nation, it can be done.Congratulations zambia for the win.

  15. You guys in Europe just prepare to bail out. This ain’t the time to be wooing guys to come and share in the cracking Euro! Ba Mulenga #9 mwatisebanya, kapuli kenu!

  16. I am over the moon! All my West African friends who are always asking “where or who is Zambia?”…NOW THEY KNOW!! I can proudly wear my flag and it registers in their minds. I thank God and the team for this moment! Never to be forgotten!!! Thank you Chipolopolo!!!!!!!
And any pics LT? Would love to see how they were welcomed. Thanks!

  17. We have always been a force to reckon with in Africa and the cup even solidfies our position. I cant wait to see us defend the title in SA IN 9 MONTHS TIMES

  18. @ MULENGA above, Kennedy Mweene is Zambian and has the right to support UPND if he so desires, reason it’s called a democracy. We won because God scripted it this way; for us to move on as one under Jesus and leave petty tribalistic tendencies behind. I haven’t seen confidence in a Zambian keeper in years plus Mweene is astute. I support president Sata but not most people in PF so am I wrong? No! Chipolopolo are champions with no bias of province.

  19. @9 Mulenga, quote: “If Kennedy Mweene was not a Tonga or UPND supporter, we would have won the game in 90 mins!!”
Jeez man, are you for real? How was Mweene, the goalie supposed to win us the game in 90 mins even if he were not Tonga or whatever? Wow man, normally I don’t respond to this kind of stuff but yours just threw my conscience away.
C’mon brother you know you can do much better than this… please don’t spoil the party! In case you are living under a rock, there’s a huge party in Zambia right now and you are invited to join.

  20. For those on the ground, could you please update us with the celebrations or you are all now very tired and sleepy? I wouldn’t be surprised?
Tell us how did the party go? Did Ba Kaponya from Copperbelt again travel to Lusaka this time? For those who are too young to, last time they travelled and came to Lusaka was when they came to the funeral of the players who died in Gabon. They never went back to C/belt and decided to stay in Lusaka, hence the domination of Bemba in the LSK streets today… I just love their energy
    :((

  21. Zambia was to face Senegal in 1993 but the team Perished of the Coast of Gabon, Libreville. A French Speaking nation. We started of by playing and defeating Senegal God had this planned out as only he can masterfully for his glory. Oh!!!!!! We have a French Coach, who also now believes there is a God out there on his way to salvation. Then we played the Final in Gabon were our heroes perished and God also let the game have drama for he is a cheerful humorous Jehovah. Drogba missed a penalty, then Mweene saved one as our savior was shielding him. Glory to Jesus we won in Gabon.

  22. If only the tribalist Sata in State House watched the game instead of campaigning for his beloved PF in Msanzala, he would have noticed that the winning team had all Zambians, not exclusively Bembas, in it. And a Tonga Bull called Kennedy Mweene saved our bacon. Mweene was a revelation. I liked how he dissed Drogba!!!!

    • Iwee stop pissing us and we are having a gud feeling of the trouph coming to ZED! Why do you always want to be tribal chi mambala iwe, stop the nonsense and Zambia including Mweene is for Zambians!!!!!!!

  23. I might have a calling to be a teacher of the Word of God after Witnessing a miracles and wonders and more wonders and favor from Jehovah over Zambia, southern Africa and the whole of the continent. Africa won Yesterday, even Ivorians should be celebrating because it shows like the Egyptians have for hears that now the continent is truly connected from the Cape to Cairo Road to Cairo Egypt. The other country with the seventh wonder of the world mosi-o-tunya has won the Africa cup. Chipolopolo iyeeeeeeeeeeeee. Tears are rolling down my eyes again God is great imwe Bantu.

  24. This awesome news! Zambian players finally getting the recognition they deserve. Katongo, Mweene, Sunzu, Mayuka are now confirmed Zambian legends. We will talk about these names for generations to come!

  25. Please some body on this blog answer my posts, I can’t believe how many continents can say they can have every one happy at once? Only in the mother land.

OLYMPIA EXTENSION CHICK! were are you my girl. Tell your husband or fiancé Zambia has arrived. NINE CHALE, Dr. Maureen Mwanawasa the old school LT bloggers. Today you can re-appear so as we share joys of this miracle of a cup. Let’s now work hard in all areas; Esther Phiri led the Way by winning every belt from the Seven continents and Islands. Honor her as well.

  26. Let’s also start going to church again as a Christian nation. Ubushilu tuleke, we can move on now to greatness and not look back. Embrace our heritage and culture which is moral values and the fear of Jehovah. Shed of Western notions of women arguing with men and emulate the east Asians in hard work and not ever giving up. Africa as a whole the final piece is here let the best go to BRAZIL 2014 and Win the world cup; let’s shock the world and have only African teams in the Semis and Finals, it’s possible. With Zam beef and Zam fruit and veggies. Even Nervous should return to the pulpit for this win was from God Jehovah any way you reason this was his working. IYEEEEE Chipolopolo IYEEEEE.

  27. Go zambia go………thank you jesus, God you are great. chipolopolo iyeeeeeeeeeeeee all the way. World cup here we come

  28. @ Mulenga

You have some serious issues,,  you are just some tribalist troll, probably Using the name Mulenga to probably bring about tribal fights between Tongas and Bembas
Zambians ignore the fool and let us celebrate our win, it’s our time
    One Zambia one nation

  29. @ 34

The Chipolopolo boys did their job, HE MCS is now doing his job, a presidents job cannot stop just because we won the cup,, ours is a clear headed hard working head of state

  32. Number 10. Please don’t bring strife and confusion. We come against STRIFE and CONFUSION in our nation in the MIGHTY NAME OF JESUS CHRIST. It’s back to the sender.

  33. What a great victory. All fans of BSC Young Boys Berne were happy to celebrate your historic victory with you. Looking forward to welcome Emmanuel Mayuka back in Switzerland and to celebrate a couple more goals. You guys know how to score penalties.

  34. This is where i know we belong; They just assisted us in going back to secure our first position by law. Now, Zambia will never drop down, we have suffered shame of losing for the past 15 years due to the accident of 93! Now is our time. Africa! Beware.

  35. We went to bring back what we left long time back by then we were champions, now we are back to the top were we belong. No more going back Copper Bullets. You really deserve a huge big rank in Soccer Politics this time.

  36. You characters will never seize to amaze me.Your behaviour is always KAPONYA like. WHY do you hate the TRUSTED and INDUSTRIOUS Tongas. They are Zambians for EVER.GOD THE MIGHTY KNOWS what tomorrow brings. NOT YOU *****S.

  37. Mulemga @10, YOU SHAMELESS PIG. PEOPLE LIKE YOU DESREVE TO BE SHOT AT SIGHT. YOU ARE A STINKING SON OF A BITCH. MAY GOD PUT YOU TO REST TO SAVE YOU WITH THE TORMENT YOU LIVE WITH DAY AFTER DAY

  38. I concur with @34, if only Sata can put aside his personal and selfish aspirations, he would have been there at the airport to welcome the galant chipolopolo. But no, he had to go on his campaing trail !!!! SHAME.

  39. @ # 10 Mulenga i personally hate tribalism  and i hope you have learnt something from the bloggers that are critical of your opinion change man you are behaving like you are in the stone age era ours is ONE ZAMBIA ,ONE NATION

  40. @# 10 ba Mulenga, Muleke ukutontonkanya like mwalipena, me iam Namwanga and i love Kennedy Mweene he is the best goal keeper so far in Africa.Tribalism is bad for this country.Go to hell

  41. Before we get carried away, let’s look back and pay respect to Chipolopolo – The Class of 1974. For you young Zambians who might not know our complete history. This line up inspired me to like football. In the ANC of 1974 in Cairo Egypt (Final against Congo, Now DR Congo), after a 1-1 scoreline in normal time Congo led 2-1 in extra time and 30 seconds before the the end of the game, wew equalise through Brighton Sinyangwe to force a replay 2 days later in which we lost 2-0. One thing I will never forget is that I was listening to live commentary (in Mansa, I was 10 years old ) by Liwewe and just before Zambia Equalised our little transistor radio went on a blip. By the time we could get the thing to restart, the game was over but we were quite relieved to discover that we had equalised.
