Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili has announced on ZNBC radio that the government has decided to give each member of the team $59 000 dollars for bring the cup to Zambia for the first time.

“The government has given each one of you $59,000, and that is beside what the corporate organisations might decide to give. This money is from the government,” Mr Kambwili said.

It is anticipated that the corporate Zambia will also make some cash rewards to the National team.

Zambia Breweries has already made a K 400 million donation to the team if they won the tournament. The Zambian Breweries PLC through its beer brand, Mosi Larger has reiterated its pledge to pay K400 million to Chipolopolo if they won the 2012 African Cup of Nations.

In a statement to media, Zambian Breweries PLC Managing Director Anele Malumo said the offer came after Zambian Breweries PLC paid FAZ a bonus of K250 million for qualifying to the AFCON 2012 and was pleased to be associated with the team’s achievement at the AFCON.

Zambian Breweries PLC is the official sponsor of the Chipolopolo through its brand Mosi Larger.

  1. THEY DESERVE MORE PLEASE. BUT THANKS BA GOVT. REWARD THESE GUYS PROPERLY PLEASE BA CORPORATE WORLD. NAPAPATA !! THESE GUYS HAVE MADE THE COUNTRY PROUD AND HAPPY

  2. Praise be to God. These Boys deserve it and many thanks to government for rewarding the boys. Congraturations boys once more!! Iam proud of being a Zambian.

  3. GIVE THEM SOME HOUSES OR BIG PLOTS TOO IN VERY GOOD AREAS TO BUILD HOUSES. THE COUNTRY IS HAPPY WITH THEIR ACHIEVEMENT.

  4. What took you so long, been waiting for this since Sunday. Thank you Kambwili and now increase it by 100% like you did for the medical personel.

  5. Thumbs up to the government…let the corporate world also came in and help…the boys really need the motivation

  6. They deserve more of course, but like someone has pointed above our economy is very small and I guess this is within reasonable.

I think the government should have waited to announce until the private sector has paid or rewarded them. This might turn some away… patience ba Govt, it ain’t ana alection year!

Now FAZ should now invest the money won in Gabon into developing the sport – invest in youth development, in schools and form soccer academies and attract talent. Globe trot around the country and go scout for talent in the remotest areas and think future as the like of Katongo don’t have many years left in the playing career.

  7. By the way why is the money quoted in American Dollars, instead of Zambian Kwacha? An announcement from the government should have faith in their own currency and ‘promote’ it, instead of quoting in a foreign currency…. or was he just quoted by the journalists who did the conversion themselves?

Anyway don’t really care, so long these heroes receive the money.

  8. Please pay the farmers as well. Its not fair that those who won the other day are paid when those who sold the maize which everyone feeds on months ago have not been paid.

  9. Well deserved!!! The boys showed true patriotism. This what is achieved if there is patrotism and a unity of purpose. “It was unite, rule and then conquer and not get divided and rule” Because with the latter you cannot conquer. If only our leaders can do the same,Zambia could be @ a different level. A lesson to learn from.

  10. These boys deserve a lot more. Atleast $100,000 each would have been better. It is only because people are daft in Zambia. With clever brains, Zambia could re-brand itself from this moment on and gain a lot more from this win…so $59,000 is peanuts. But when you have naturally dull people with an IQ of a frog, what do you expect?

    • Yes I agree with you man, $100k would be have been reasonable. I suggest to give them land to build houses too. And finally release the Gabon report so we can all have official closure.

    • State your point without insulting people. You have a good point but you diminish it with your insults. You can advocate for the increase in the print media(where they will see it) or challenge the corporate world to make up the difference.Chasila.

    • Saimbwende waya sana, get yourself a copy of Capitalist Nigger and have a read, you may just change the way you think about yourself before you judge others, amano ububi!

  11. A big “Thank you” to the Government on the reward of $59,000 given to our players. Let the corporate world also join in by giving whatever they can contribute in order for our lads to be motivated as we go for the Brazil 2014 qualifiers. Go Chipolopolo go,go,go,go…………!

  12. The money coupled with property in form of houses will be appropriate for chipolopolo boys. Soccer is a short career hence govt should take this opportunity to do something special for the copper bullets. Houses for the lads!

  13. Come on what is $59,000,000 in Zambia? you cant even buy a decent house. How much do politicians get for sleeping and farting in Parliament? This should have been complimented with houses. The other problem is this amount could be rebased especially that its coming from a misqouted motormouth.

  14. That money is only from the GRZ.FAZ will give them a share of the AFCON prize money($2m) and so will the corporate world. In the end the boys will pockect around $100,000 for each player.

    • Well well. Congratulation boys. How annoying that the Zambian gov’t is so involved in football when they can be minding important gov’t duties. This is the work of FAZ not the gov’t. FAZ and the corporate community can rewards the boys much more if politics and the gov’t can stand aside while FAZ commercializes the football especially now that our footballers are in the limelight. Our gov’t can not afford to get involved in football or both our economy & foolball will be doomed.

  15. Good gesture from government. The boys definitely deserve more but K300m x 23 players is K6.9billion! This is a lot of money which the boys must realise is not easy for the government to fork out. My advice to the boys is that they should use the money wisely. We dont want to hear bad stories such as was the case with some members of the 1994 squad after receiving the $10,000 bonuses. We need you boys alive and healthy to continue bringing glory to mother Zambia.

  16. Compared to the glory, happiness and reputation they have brought to the country, this money is not enough for our boys, they deserve more than this, undeserving politicians go with more than this. Thanks anyway, I just hope these bonuses will not be reversed as slipping of the tongue as what has become the trend now. Well deserved boys, next set your eyes on Brazil, you can do it.

  17. This was a blessing from God my children, you need to take tithe (10%) to your respective churches so that God can open up the gates of blessings for you. Avoid Addis Abba take aways, use the money wisely

  18. Nice move hope they invest the cash. Best would be to let NHA build houses for them that way we shall surely empower our players.

  19. Bloggers check out this fine article on Nyasatimes.com Death announcement-An Elephant of I.Coast Killed by Copper Bullets.

  20. Drogba makes $250,000 dollars a week , Yaya gets $300, 000 pin at Man City. I hope some of our boys will break into EPL. So more money is coming after this win. My bet is Mayuka and Katongo deserve a chance !

  21. Y’all niggas saying it’s peanuts must remember you are taking about Zambia not England or Spain…56000 dollars is ait in my opinion….as much as the boys deserve more we must also consider the situation in Zambia.

  22. Baiche now you are rich.Just use the money wisely and not go the Elijah Litana and Wawa Chongo way.No inkani yama hule and too much ama dizzy.Invest the money wisely coz football is a short career.

  23. Come on people, consider the other many problems that the govt needs to attend to!! Yes $59, 000.00 isn’t much considering what these boys have achieved for our country. But can we all calm down and be realistic for once?. Let us compare oranges to oranges! How do you expect Zambia to afford the kind of salaries/rewards paid to players in Europe, are you people crazy?!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. Well done MCS on this one. Atleast every Zambian on the Earth is celebrating because of the joy the boys have done for all Zambians. We are so happy and have made us proud Zambian everywhere we go.

  25. THANK YOU BA GOVERNMENT BUT SHACHEPA, THE BOYS DESERVE MORE. GIVE THEM EACH A HOUSE, FROM NATIONAL HOUSING AUTHORITY. PLEASE PLEASE ZAMBIANS LETS SUPPORT THE BOYS, LETS PUSH FOR PROPERTY FOR EACH PLAYER. THE US $59,000 is for Shopping let them come to DUBAI to Shop. HOUSES FOR CHIPOLOPOLO BOYS..

  26. I am suggesting that the large corporates (FQM, KCM, Airtel, MTN, Barclays, Std Chartered, Stanbic, Barrick Lumwana etc) should also help pay Renard’s salary and benefits going forward.  Don’t leave it to GRZ/FAZ.  If we continue harassing Renard about his pay, amaSene or the Angolans or somebody else will grab him.  Renard has proven himself and Zambian has to work very hard to retain him.  He could help with the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.

Who was sniggering a few years ago that Renard was a mere physical trainer?!! LOL!

  27. $59.000 not bad governement has done its part, let us just push for corporate world to also come in and pledge some money for our boys. Also look into coach Herve Renard Salary increase it by $10,000 monthly additional to what he is getting now.

  28. Good gesture from govt. Hope corporate world tops up. Given size of our economy, $59k is not too bad. Houses may have been better, its easy to blow cash.

Plus the relatives have heard. they will come with project proposals asking for capital. LOL.

  29. So how much is Kalu and his FAZ going to give the lads from the $2million CAF winners prize? $59 000 is more than enough given that its a bonus from GRZ that wasn’t even budgeted for…I would have given farming land and residential  land….if the boys play their cards right they will be getting twice that amount in Europe per week.  What’s pathetic is the $2 million CAF is handing out to the winners as these matches were being shown on a subscription channel like Eurosport, Supersport, ITV4 and other channels around Globe and was being officially sponsored by the likes of Samsung and Orange. TP Mazemba of DRC got this amount for coming second at the World Club football tournament. GRZ should also give some land to FAZ to build a training camp in Zambia instead of flying to RSA.

  30. …..$59,000 will get you a Toyota Hilux from Toyota Zambia plus perhaps a ka K15m change. Hmmm food for thought. ANYWAY, nice gesture.

  31. #19
Ba Saimbwende naimwe, you are forgetting that this is Zambia we are talking about. Forking out more than £1,000,000 is a big ask for an economy like ours. We should commend gesture instead of being rude for the sake of it.

  32. The boys deserve it,I hope they are given advise too ,how to spend the money.am sure companies will chip in as well. well done boys the whole southern Africans are proud of you. We danced “ba Zambia iyee ba Zambia chipolopolo” in the freezing cold!!!(uk).

  33. Its money well deserved for the boys as we can now pride ourselves as African Football champions. Like all professional sports men and women do is prepare themselves for life after sport sustainance. An investment of that money should go towards building houses for these boys and their families. Investments in houses will last the rest of their lives. Lets not only excite the boys with quantum money value, but should also own some asset to lean on and decent houses to leave in with their families.

  34. Great. $50,000.00 is better tyhan nothing. It falls short of my wishes for $100000.00 each but hey I appreciate. Way to go PF and Mr Sata and all Zambians out there. Our team is representative of Zambia. There is Nyambe Mulenga, Katongo, Musonda, Mweene from all Zambia. We appreciate national unity even through sport.

  35. That front picture is worth millions of grudas and it will grace our living rooms and hearts with pride for many many years to come. Stoppile mfana wa kamina, may your carrear fly to the clouds from here. You and the rest of the team did us wonders. The occassion the Ivorians started breaking was clear and the composure you exhibited in taking your shot and nailing it big time was amazing for a kid your age, and by so doing you made us all as Zambians very proud. Uyoyange wino wino mucaha!

  36. Ba FAZ please, please me ndakomba biya! Give the boys a business workshop on investiments and budget. Get a very good business company, bank or whatever to give these wonderful boys an eye openning business workshop. Call them together as a matter of urgency this issue. I don’t suggest this move as a way of looking down upon the boys but because I love them like we all do. There are just too many wonderful sports personalities that run broke later on in life. It’s painful to read such headlines about someone you love and look up to. Please kaka twakomba, help the boys so they can establish themselves for good. Ndagola.

  37. Before they even get the money, have the heads of the Big Zambian churches pray for these lads and Faz. Then get Dambisa ( I was employed by the head of Barclays as silent Director ) Moyo to employ her financial plan for them: THAT’S FOR SIAMBWENDE above for saying we have IQs of a frog. Then have grand chess master and the Kid that scored the highest ACCA/ CIMA school SIABWENDE. if he does not still get it HAVE ESTHER ( I have all female boxers around the world wanting my 8 world belts ) jab left right hook uppercut sense into his head.

  38. $100PIN would have been nice but hey, atleast our gov has shown some appreciation. These boys will end up making more in the near future. Just celebrate and enjoy bane…

  39. Well done boys….we in North America are proud of you when no one gave you a chance. Next step is the WC qualifiers…we need to go to Brazil to further defy the odds. Viva Zambia viva chipolopolo. !!!

  40. What if the World Cup came to Zambia? The possibility are high, we might win again…from then every continent will bow to Zed….my Nation is the flying eagle.

  41. I’m 40 yrs OLD. Im Going to a local clinic near my hood to forge a birth certificate to read 18yrs old & to get a New Reg. I’m buying soccer boots to start playing soccer. Mulindalama. Yaba elyo World Cup Kutali futi. Nomba tafyaka nkontole imbafu? ha ha ha Good Miorning everyone.(it’s a joke).

  42. great stuff from GRZ. the rest of the money from MTN etc must be put into savings or invested for the lads.

CAF is a let down $2 million? i would rather be on BIG BROTHER!!!!

  43. hahaha funny comments..well done boys!besides the money, the most important thing is that you have put our nation into history books :)…cant wait for your European posts.
