British Government nods Government’s intention to register the London Judgement.

Share

New British High Commissioner to Zambia James Thornton says government’s intention to register the London court judgment against former late republican president Frederick Chiluba will be a significant move in the fight against corruption.

Mr.Thornton says the UK will support the Zambian government in prioritizing the corruption fight adding that it is pleased with the anti corruption crusade by the government.

He says corruption affects every Zambian directly or indirectly because public resources are diverted from those who need them the most.

He said this in Lusaka this afternoon during the launch of the Anti-Corruption Commission and civil society organizations’ networking programme.

Mr. Thornton however says corruption can only be tackled if it is reported to the commission.

And ACC Director General Rosewin Wandi says the commission realizes that there is no single player who can eradicate poverty without other players’ participation and contribution.

Mrs. Wandi says it is for this reason that the ACC saw it befitting to continue building coalitions with critical stakeholders such as civil society organizations.

She was however quick to mention that concerted effort in the fight against the vice is not just about making partnerships but also ensuring that the partnerships are continually made stronger and sustainable.

And representative of the civil society, Frederick Chinsala says it is the responsibility of the civil society to highlight to society the mandate of the commission, define and explain the effects of corruption.

  1. Please just add de- in front of register and forget about this whole thing after all the man is no more what is anyone trying to achieve? It’s all about making money for all those involved shame on all of you.

  2. I fully understand why the British High Commissioner is excited about the announcement to register the Chiluba judgment. Sata their train conductor wants to pay them back their money once the judgment is registered. Zambia will get nothing. Remember, the British and other European countries are the ones who funded the Task Force and paid Sebastian Zulu his 20 million Kwacha per month when he was prosecutor or was it persecutor? Now, they want their money back and unless he registers Chiluba’s stolen billions, Sata has none to give the British.

  3. Registering the verdict means that late Chilubas co-accused who are still alive will pay. The government will also get back some of this money which is in foreign accounts. A step in the right direction PF Government.

  4. Well, what are the legal issues? Some questions: Will GRZ fund Chiluba’s lawyers? Can the judgement really be registered? Are the legal instruments in place? Or is it another of those misguided Sebastian style statements? Oh, by the way, where has the case of MMD vs Bob Sichinga of the fake 3 trillion fame reached?

  5. Good evening

Comments reserved for now. Let’s wait and see what it all comes down to. Fact is that there are no bygones in law and it is clear that the government is determined to maintain it’s anti-corruption crusade and leave no stone unturned. Well, it so happens that the biggest stone is the FTJ case…

  6. Talk about real matterd, this doesn’t occupy  space nah any kkilograms. Dual citizen should be matters we should be talking about. Stop all this attention seeking thing. This is just one of them things gov’t really need to consider.

  7. Sata revokes appointment of ACC deputy boss he appointed 24 hours earlier

February 22, 2012 | Filed under: Breaking News | Posted by: editor President Michael Sata has revoked the appointment of Alexander Museba as Deputy Director-General of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Sata has instead appointed Museba as Chairperson of the Police and Prisons Service Commission.

Museba was sworn in yesterday February 21, 2012 as Deputy Director-General of the Anti-Corruption

  8. White colonialists are now controlling us through sata. Its a sad day in zambia’s chapter. Lord, we ask you to take this cup of suffering from us soon. These guys are coming through the backdoor. May you allow us grab farm land from white commercial farmers immediately

  9. When you have fools leading the country this is what you expect. They are just busy creating income for their friends and relatives from wealthless Muchinga province.

  10. Registering the verdict is about regaining donor, other stake holders and citizens credibility. Fighting corruption when you yourself are percieved to be corrupt gets you no where. This exactly where Mwanawasa and Ala Bee failed miserably and corruption increased instead of decreasing when those chaps were in power. This is a good decision by the PF government.

  11. If Rosewin is really serious about tackling white collar crime and wants to cure her boss’s corruption allergy…she should ask for technical assistance from the Brits; request for training specialists from Scotland Yard or The Met, this type of government to government assistance is FREE. Look at BUFFO0N RB’s smug face, when are we going to put some steel bracelets on his wrists; he is already slowly slipping away and he is going to disappear like a fart in thin air.

  12. Sata did not serve his sentence for stealing money from the Merzaf (sp) project in Chilenje, can we have him sentenced now? I think he should go to prison for embezzling public funds. When he fell out of favor with the Post newspaper, it kept calling him “convicted thief.” Why did the newspaper stop calling him that? And please, let Mutembo Nchito who represented Paul Tembo just before his execution hours before he was to testify tell us what he knows about Sata’s  role in the disappearance of billions of kwacha?

  13. It is best for some developed countries to learn simple principles of diplomacy from a 3rd-world country. It is wise for the new British High Commissioner to settle down in the country, know the geography, ethnic constitution and cultural values of the Zambian people, read the political history of the country, appreciate a diversity of ideologies prevailing in this country, and critically gauge the extent of Zambia’s links with other major states in the world. The London Judgement is considered burried with FTJ and our Judicial System settled and closed this episode. The British High Commission should avoid being ridiculed because the Late Chiluba corruptly amassed the alleged wealth in full view and moral support of the current President Sata who championed a 3rd-Term bid for Chiluba.

  14. I personally dont see the point of pushing this London Judgement any further. First: the matter was litigated before our courts and was thrown out on the basis of precedent set by the Supreme court. That would be autro foir acquit. Second: Even if we past an SI today will it have retrospective effect? If we couldnt get a straight good case with our own courts why run Colonial. Brits for their Sh8t can never rely on a Zambian courts pronouncement to nail their former head of state. Lets grow up. Gerald Ford pardoned Nixon to save the dignity of America. We do’nt have shame to prosecute a dead man we failed to nail when he was alive? Some fcking shame.

  15. I was hurt when Rupia Bwezani Banda failed to register the London judgement. I development hatred for RB and MMD from then on and made sure I cast my vote for PF just to get back at this thieving(MMD). Im glad that it has come to pass. MMD is out. Thanks to the many Zambians who felt the way I felt about this issue. Way foward is please register this Civil case and let us recover our K250 billion from these thieves dead or alive.
I can’nt even build a house because ZRA is grabbing all my money in taxes and s.tupid Chiluba gives USD20 million (K100 billion) to Katoto of the DRC!!!!!!! How annoying!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. DO YOU PIPO KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. THIS LAW WILL SET PRECEDENCE. WHAT IS GOING TO STOP A GAY LAW AGAINST A ZAMBIAN BEEN REGISTERED HERE AS WELL. HOW DOES THIS RELATE TO OUR CURRENT LEADERS AND AFRICA AT LARGE AND KNOWING HOW CONNIVING EUROPEANS CAN BE.LETS SEE BEYOND OUR NOSES

    • mushindo, or what ever your name is, I don’t know which planet you are living on, but the important precedence being set here is that thieves can not get away with it. The international community always intervene when legal matters in any country fail and Zambia is signitory to numerous legal Geneva conventions.

The only legacy the MMD left is that getting caught is the only evil in crime. No wonder Ala Bee is seeking asylum in SA and hiding the wherabouts of his criminal son. Unrepentant imbecile.

Be warned. We will arrest criminals. Even death is no escape. We will exhume the body of Kafupi and place it in prison.

  17. These british fckers invented corruption back in the day when they came to our shores and bribed our naive chief’s with whisky and top hats! Interesting how the brits funded our so called Taskforce while ensuring that Tony Blair’s brother (William) was the main solicitor representing Zambia? Moreover, this was a civil case and not a criminal trial. Locally, ‘madumbo’ Nchito spent 8yrs trying FJT on a USD 500K case which yielded jack $hit. The only ba$tards who profited from this comedy of errors are the white collar criminals we call lawyers. Nchito is now DPP and first thing he did was drop Mahtani’s cases; a weird coincidence considering Nchito and Mmembe had guaranteed Zambian Airways loans from FBZ in their individual capacity as directors. Open your eyes fellow Zambians!

  18. James Thornton can kiss my fckin black a$$. The IMF/World Bank sell off our debt to vulture funds who in turn rape us dry; western multi-nationals bribe our crooked politicians to win lucrative mineral rights and concessions; they support unjust wars slaughtering innocent women & children etc. My blood boils when such fckers are given a red carpet reception in Zambia and they try to lecture us on ‘good governance’. If I had my way, I’d stick a broom stick up his white butt and send him packing straight back London. How dare you lecture us on corruption when you are the most evil corrupt demons of all.

  19. I would suggest that we exhume the bones of Hefty Jay from Embassy Park and throw them to dogs, that dog!  Sata will also get the same treatment soon.  These thieving monkeys!

  20. We are a gaggle of volunteers and opening a brand new scheme in our community. Your web site provided us with helpful information to paintings on. You have performed an impressive job and our entire neighborhood will be grateful to you.

  21. Excellent site. Plenty of helpful information here. I’m sending it to several buddies ans additionally sharing in delicious. And of course, thanks on your effort!
