Zambia, Gabon Friendly Off

Share

Faz has abandoned plans to play any international friendly match on February 29.

Zambia had a planned a friendly against Gabon on February 29 but that match has now been scrapped.

Football House says they want to players focus on their club commitments after a grueling two-and-a-half months of Africa Cup buildup and tournament action.

“We have camped the players for a long time from the time we started our training camp in South Africa way back in November,” Faz communications officer Erick Mwanza said at Wednesdays press briefing.

“So we feel it would be important for the players to settle with their clubs and also have some rest because it may be difficult to get them back on Sunday ahead of the friendly matches.”

The development means Zambia could be inactive until June 1 when they play their next official game against Sudan in a 2014 World cup Group qualifier in Khartoum.

  1. When I first heard of the plans to play a friendly against Gabon, I questioned the wisdom of such a move considering that the players had just endured a physically demanding tournament. On top of that, there was the emotional side to the triumph. The scrapping of the friendly is a wise move. Besides, we should now think of playing European teams.

  2. Good move. Firstly for the reasons given above, and secondly, it would be rather embarrassing and belittling to lose so soon when the euphoria of our victory is still doing world-wide rounds. We dont want people to start saying so soon that we won out of lack rather than skill. Not playing until June is not a bad thing.

  3. playing with Gabon this time is to be little our team. this time we should thinking about playing against teams like Germany, Brazil etc.

  4. Is it a FIFA sanctioned day? If yes we need to play although I am not happy with the quality of the team to play with. this way we can get more points. lets organise better matches against formidable sides. i think no country will avoid playing Zambia being the champs

  5. If you want the clubs to release the players quickly next time and always let them go back after the tournament and play for there clubs GOOD MOVE

  6. And at the time this friendly was being initiated, faz didnt have this data??? chipantepante zoona..

  7. We may have won the cup but we still have the same administrators of yesteryear at FAZ in the name of Kalu & Co., you can’t honestly expect these chaps to organise a decent team to play the first game against the African Champs!!

  8. Are you insane?
How the hell do the African Champs stoop so low as to play against Gabon, hello?
Has Zambian football gone to the dogs or otherwise.
Knick laughed like a hyena when I informed him of this unfortunate development.

    Thanks

  9. Even us fans are tired of blowing Vuvuzelas, lets focus on elections of FAZ administration. June is not that far, we can wait.
Hooow life feels so good, without Simataa Simata!! Kamanga is also busy trying to bring Kabwe Warriors back into main league.

  10. FAZ wake up, you should have put this matter into consideration before arrangement was agreed. Cancelling after accepting meant you have not explained the main reason inhere. FIFA friendly = all clubs allow their player to attend if called upon. And there are or no club fixtures during the FIFA friendly thats why some frustrated national teams play clubs.. haa haa Come out with a good reason instead this one you put forward.

  11. Can someone please follow up this data just received;
1 Has the National Team been paid the promised bonus for winning the AFCON CUP? In addition state how much exactly the boys have been paid. Word has it they were offered $20,000/- instead of the promised $59,000 (K300,000,000) each prompting a walk out leading to the postponement of the Gabon game next week.
2 Word also has it that the K1 billion donated by MTN to FAZ has been chewed amongst Executive Committee members.
