Herve Renard accepts Clifford Mulenga’s apology

National soccer team head coach Herve Renard

Zambia coach Herve Renard has accepted Clifford Mulenga’s apology after the Bloemfontein Celtic forward was expelled from the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations for disciplinary reasons.

However, Renard warned in Lusaka Wednesday that no player was bigger than the team. He is one of the Zambian players for the national team. We have accepted his apology. He is like the many thousands of Zambian players,Renard said.

The French coach expelled Mulenga from the team on January 30 in Malabo after the striker broke team curfew with four other players and went out drinking a day after Zambia beat Equatorial Guinea 1-0 in their final Group A game.

“We have to keep the spirit, in football it does not matter what name you are, you just have to be efficient all the time.

I can assure you no one player will play for the Chipolopolo if he thinks he is the best player in the World he said. Renard could however not say if the one-time CAF African Young Player Award winner would be recalled for Zambias next engagement.

A week ago, Mulenga apologised to Renard, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), his team mates and the country for his misdemeanour at the Africa Cup.

  1. I always knew you had a forgiving heart, and this is a lesson to all our players no one is bigger than the team regardless of who you are

  2. Another U-turn? It seems the U-turn syndrome in Zambia is being spearheaded by King Cobra, be firm in your decisions please.

  3. Good move Renard. Had you not chucked that monkey, the team descipline would have been lost and we weren’t going to lift the cup. Forgive him and tell him to behave from now on……

  4. That’s good of HR. He really needed to be forgiven since he must have felt the full impact of the axe when he lost out on all that glory and laudatio that came with the victory of lifting the cup. Nomba ba Clifford mutekanye! Don’t blow your second chance again and go partying in the camp when we go to the World Cup!

  5. heavy Leonard way to go man hahahaha sorry people i was told that the man’s name on the streets is NOT Herve Renard but Heavy Leonard.

  6. # 6 Nine Chale – I like your big headedness. You are talking about world cup before our qualification. Its however nice that the coach has forgiven Mulenga

  7. Herve Renard also need to start learning better management skills. Lets see in which way he will support the football career for Clifford, let see if he can sell him to France.

  8. <):) It's good to forgive but he should never be selected to play for Zambia any time soon. Herve Renard is Simply the Best Coach with a good heart and he did well to expel the bad apple. Clifford deserves everything he is getting, there are many young talented players who would want to be playing for their country with pride. So lets move on without Clifford he is not important in my opinion. Being modest as a team member and respecting the coach is very important, one word, HUMILITY! Go Renard with the  Chipolopolo boys! Without arrogant Clifford of COURSE!! Chipolopolo po mukwai? Lots of love from England, xxxxxxxxxxxxx

  9. I can assure you no one player will play for the Chipolopolo if he thinks he is the best player in the World.

COPY AND PASTE this statement in your heads, those of you who are insisting that Clifford be brought back on board!!

  10. HERVE THE MERCIFUL! clifford hope you and your shakers-guzzling buddies have learnt your lesson. Team before I. well done, herve for showing mercy as you will need clifford along the way.

  11. Thats just the way to go although this does not mean automatic call up to the squad. those places hsve to be earned. We need all our players available for the world cup qualifiers and also to defend the AFCON next year. We really need a big squad.

  12. Great news. Question do we have any Zambian attacking mid fielders of Ronaldinho’s calibre. For at the world cup we shall need to nyunya teams like Brazil, Agentina, Spain and the netherlands.

  13. The young man has shown genuine remorse and has been punished for his misadventure.
It would have evil for the coach not forgive him and give the young boy a second chance

  14. thus de way to go mr coach now mulenga young man change forever no luking back wards.u a gud player young man God bless u.

  15. Well done coach, after all every human being falls short of the glory of God but God is always forgiving us our tresspasses. So we should also forgive our fellows.

  16. Good move Renard.Good that you have done what we did to you by forgiving you after you stubborningly deserted us in favour of Angola.

    • Exactly,
do unto others as you would like them to do unto…. (finish off)

  17. A GOOD SHOW OF LEADERSHIP HARVE! FORGIVNESS IS A HALLMARK OF ADVANCED HUMAN LEVEL OF EXISTANCE. BRAVO TO YOU. NOW I UNDERSTAND WHY YOU WERE THE ONE TO COME AND WIN AFCON FOR ZAMBIA.

  18. He has been punished enough! He lost the medalion, the 120,000 dollars or so,media attention etc Maybe he will never drink beer again! Lets now judge him by his skills, level of comitment and professionalism.GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.

  19. So this is not about the players sneaking out after all. If HR is making reference to a player thinking he is the best in the world. There is more than meets the press stories. I wish there were investigative journalists who would dig out what the rift between Renard and Mulenga is really about. Remember this is not the first time it has happened.

  20. Good for the Zambian game. The spirit should transcend to administrators. No one person is greater than the people of Zambia. Any country’s/ Team’s success is in the system energy (synergy) pooled together by its parts collectively, not individually. Well done Rene.

  21. RENARD is playing chess with this young man. Forgiveness in this case does not amount to play-time for the soccer team. White mans mentality dictates paying for your actions. CHECK-MATE!

  22. We are a christian nation thats y we told Jackie chang moon to F off .This boy is the hottest striker in SA .hE IS SCORING and play making more than Mbesuma. Thanks Nerves .

  23. ITS GOOD TO APPOLOGISE AND ALSO GREAT ON THE PART OF FORGIVERS. HOWEVER, DISCIPLINE WAS AND IS STILL NECESSARY IN THE TEAM IN PARTICULAR AND IN ANY ORGANISATION, IN GENERAL. AFRICANS SEEM TO BE VERY INDISCIPLINED WHEN IT COMES TO OBEYING INSTRUCTIONS. IF THE CHAP WASN’T FIRED FROM THE TEAM ZAMBIA WOULDN’T HAVE WON AS HE WAS GOING TO INFLUENCE EVERY TEAM MEMBER. JOB WELL DONE ‘LHEAVY’ LEONARD. YOU ARE THE BOSS.
