yaba but UNZA is a sorry sight mwe! Urgent attention is needed but anyway this has been a song for so long i wonder when it will be released as a hit!
nice newly built houses in makeni..Unza very emdarassing
Nice houses. The standards look high.Unza Yaba One can doubt the quality of education comming from such a place
But PF really works fast – already they have built 150 houses for ZNS!Â
This copy and paste, the houses were done by MMD
105 houses that were built in the MMD era give credity where it is due.
I miss MMD, they somehow meant well for the country. RB started that housing project for defense personnels. I haven’t seen any project started by PF.Â
PF; do something about UNZA; that is very sad!!
Pic 2-Looks more of a refugee camp than a dormitory to me.How sad :(
The UNZA shame sums up the pathetic state of affairs obtaining in the country. The inspection by the minister will yield nothing, that’s how it goes in Zambia.
Mmembe has no respect for elders, always wearing hats!!!
On a positive note, very nice houses, but those overhead electricity power lines are an eye sore. Could have done better. On the other side of town, we have ‘YUNZA ‘ and its perennial problems. Students are camping like refugees in a disaster zone. Would I sent my child to ‘YUNZA’ if I were Minister of Education? Probably NOT! No wonder there is a spread of measles among College students. Dora Siliya sent her son to UK instead, how do you expect standards to improve? Blame Dora Siliya, she was Education Minister.. You have shown pictures of dormitories in such a bad state, how about lecture rooms and laboratories? It is agony in Zambia…..
This is surprising, UNZA has dormitories now? This looks like one of former common rooms. since when? hope they are not paying anything for it. It is just lucky of initiatives by UNZA management. There a lot of houses around main campus which would be interested in giving them to students at a fee, with UNZA management involved. Sad, that we can still lack when we have a lot, what a life. shame
Imwee ba PF bloggers you are just good at blaming the MMD as having left alot of problems that the PF govt inherited. Am sure these newly built houses are something worthy of praise of the MMD led govt. This is why who ever assume office should just govern without aportioning the blame to others. Because right now we are all praising the goverment. And who is getting the praise? It is the PF goverment because they are the ones in power. Lets grow up!
Pic 1 – Education Minister John Phiri tours un-sanitary facilities at the University of Zambia the highest learning institution in the country.
Good structures 4 ZNS but as youths we further want employment mu ZNS so that we can stay in such houses not Police or Ku Jere – no attraction.
I fully agree with #7, this is more of a refugee camp than the highest institution of learning in the land. It should thus come as no wonder that graduates like Kabimba who passed through this s.h.i.t hole are mentally challenged! We shoul;d all be very ashamed that we have allowed successive governments to neglect this institution of learning. If you look at the ZNS house being handed over, one wonders why this government of Sata could not build the same structures for our students? You bet the contract Sata gave to Chikwanda alone would have been able to sort out this problem but he would rather take the money to refurbish Mbeya College of Sansamcation in Tanganyika where he comes from!
Can someone tell me how strong and durable those houses are? They are pre fab houses a building standard which is not common in Zambia. What is their advantage over concrete built houses, apart from the obvious cost. Unza is a sorry site. Its also disheartening to that even the newly chinese built hostels have alot of problems. Leaking pipes, sewerage system is not up to scratch. Abena Ernest Sakala bashansha zoona on that position. Not even Membe’s assault seems enough to move him.
Unza pics are an eyesore. No wonder South Africa has downgraded our grade 12 to grade 11. Accreditation of an institution looks at facilities too. RB & his administration should be praised for the nice houses. Alas, PF could not cut the grass down. How can you hand over houses without cutting down grass. In 1 yrs time, those houses might be an eyesore since the majority of our Zambian people don’t know how to maintain things. GRZ is even worse. Good example is UNZA facilities.
#10, THAT MAKES THE TWO OF US. OVERHEAD ELECTRICITY LINES ARE AN EYESORE. UNDERGROUND SYSTEMS MAKE THE OVERGROUND NEAT, CLEAN AND EASY TO DEAL WITH. MOST IMPORTANTLY CHEAPER TO IMPLEMENT AND CUT ON DEFORESTATION WHICH IS GOING AT AN ALARMING PACE IN ZAMBIA AND NO ONE CARES. ZAMBIA TAKE A LONG TIME TO CHANGE TO MODERN AND GOOD PRACTICES.
UNZA IS A SORRY SITE. WHAT A SHAME! SOMETHING MUST SERIOUSLY BE DONE ABOUT PRONTO. ITS WORSE THAN A TYPICALLY NEGLECTED BOARDING SCHOOL IN ZAMBIA. THIS IS THE SIMILAR SITUATION AT CBU. PF MUST DO SOMETHING ABOUT THESE INSTITUTIONS. MORE SO CONSTRUCT MORE NEW UNIVERSITIES TO DE CONGEST THE ONLY TWO UNIVERSITIES IN ZAMBIA AFTER ALMOST 50 YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE.
#16: what is the correlation between UNZA picture and the decision to down grade grade 12 to 11 in SA? Zero. In my own view, down grading of grade 12 to 11 has been because of the poor quality of the students that intend to study in SA. If the main determinant for a person to go to Uni in SA is “affordability” then you are guaranteed mediocrity. Consistent mediocrity must have led to the down-grade, i may speculate wrong here!!. Coming to the praise of MMD; who can praise the guys who led for 20 years and did absolutely nothing? Why should you praise a guy who was paid for their work? I am PF, but I will not be ashamed to discredit PF if they do wrong. MMD should even have done better; 150 houses in 20 years, is that good you think?
Awe guys, government must do something once UNZA is in recess. Please people, we cannot allow our brothers and sisters to live in such lamentable conditions. Please act, these students voted you in because of such conditions they were trying to run away from!
Bafikkalah not all big buses are marcopolo
UNZA pictures have left me heart broken.
Iyeee is that UNZA! I was there over a decade ago and it breaks my heart to see it look like that. That looks a dormitory you would find somewhere in Muchinga province!.Honestly can one focus on studies under such conditions? Its a health hazard to say the least.Maybe EX-UNZA students should donate to the institution. We can adopt rooms or residences that housed us.But do we Zambians trust each other ..NO! the money will probably go in someones pockets. So what can be done?the dunderheads in govt obviosly don’t care.
The current state of our great UNZA demonstrates the legacy of the MMD government. Looters and terrorists. Like what the under 5 said at one time, We put mokeys in charge of the maize field in 1991. UNZA was UNZA when we were there.
UNZA.ZNS soldiers must take good care of those houses unlike ZP whose camps are a sorry site to see.Dont use corrupt practies to allocate them.Pay electricity and water bills.Such is accomodation that every Zambian was supposed to occupy.
I blame UNZA management for the state UNZA is in today. They have plenty of land and that land is in prime area they can lease some of the land and use the money to build better rooms for students but being Zambians all we think about is govt. When are we going to start being innovative.
Well said!! Commercial sense!!
Every available space at most institutionz of higher learning have been “taken up” by the ever increazing enrollment figurez, az seen by that common room accommodating women. The situation iz really desperate and sad. That iz YUNZA, but just imagine Evelyn Hone, NRDC, NORTEC and all, plus the many Tradez Schoolz around the country…
Maybe we need Western expats to run UNZA for us for 15 years in order to bring the sanitary and living standards high.
How do you accommodate students in such a manner? They truly live like refugees somewhere in Africa.
I agree, the UNZA management have failed. University leaders need to have their sights on both the classroom material as well as the social living conditions on the institution.
Some Primary, Secondary and College education administrators have done far better than the University admin.
pics 1& 2 make one’s heart bleed. The contrast to the extravagance in pics 8 -11 urgently calls for the establishment of a joint area of prosperity by the govt, which would ensure a balanced development for ALL citizens of Zambia.
The ZNS houses were built using pre-fabricated components. This is a cheap and fast way of addressing the housing crisis. Though it remains to be seen how long they will stand. In any case providing such housing to our students at UNZA would be more than welcome given the current state of affairs.
Mr Storella advising the Political affairs under sec that it is better to meet scott as the other old chap would not in his lifetime understand any sensible issues. He is still fascinated with and currently studying the term WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT!!! lol
People in leadership should not beat about the bush, that Pic no. 1 and 2 is what PF should be expending their energy, resources and time. For me that is worse than a time bomb!
good morning
Someone honestly needs to be jailed for those UNZA pics. They speak volumes of mega mismanagement. Maybe we should get rid of all dormitaries and let UNZA concentrate on educating and training people so people living near by the main campus and other places of Lusaka can benefit from rentals from students. This is one of the ways you create wealth and jobs. I think the primary goal of a university should be to educate people. We see this in the developed world. The university will educate more people when they demolish domitaries and build more lecture rooms and this might help us move from the nonsense of people being told they have passed but have not been selected. Lets try to maxmise our resources, sometimes I think we are a very wasteful people and culture. Change with time please.
Those houses are really nice!!!!!!! The University of Zambia should be shut if we are to judge conditions by that picture shown,so disgusting, looks some abandoned ramshackle in Kalikiliki!!!!
Pic#12 – Why isn’t a boy holding that tray? This is why it will take forever for women in Zambia to be respected! Girls are being raised to be submissive and docile i.e. you are a girl, put on a pretty dress and go and serve some men!
You’ve got things wrong my friend. Thats an honoured position to be a scissors bearer at a ribbon cutting ceremony. Its the same as a flower girl recieving important dignetaries. This is a time honoured tradition the world over and there enough things boys are doing so no need to take this from the girls.
Pic2 – Iye University is a joke. Students sleeping on top of each other like rats! disgusting!
University yaba kaponya!!! That is a Kantemba and not University!
YUNZA? UNZA!?! REALLY!!???!! The University of Zambia!!??!! Really??!! The highest learning institution in the country?? YUNZA? UNZA!?! REALLY? Really!!!??? Would like to know what the students are taught at UNZA. How can efficiency and responsibility be taught and understood in such a place really? YUNZA? UNZA!?! REALLY!!???!! This is SHOCKING!!!!! and very SAD:(:(:(
Interesting building design for those defence houses looks like somewhere in the States or Holland..i hope that wooden façade will withstand our weather conditions. All in all any innovative new designs should be promoted and encouraged we are tired of those dated 60s concrete designs.
UNZA commission of enquiry!!!!
Unza very sad state of affairs sure. that building can not even take a billion to fix.
105 houses built in 6 months! Wow! This is a government of action! So, in 5 years, we expect more!
They are very nice houses. I like the order.
As for UNZA, accomodation policy needs to change at UNZA. The UNZA should only accomodate FIRST year and final exam year fourth or fifth year students. Second and third year and Engineering and Vet fourth year students should find their own accomodation. At Ridgeway campus, sixth and final year students should be accomodated by the UTH because they work on wards and may need to assist with out of hours work. The rest should be at Ridgeway campus.
Yunza one thing YES I AGREE on picture it is complete shitte UTTER F…. but when you there its not so bad AND ONCE YOU MAKE IT AT YUNZA AND GRADUATE YOU REALLY EARN THE DEGREE ,LIVING IN THOSE SHIITE CONDITIONS MEANS YOU CAN MAKE IT ANYWHERE,NO LIE!!! MISS UNZA THOUGH GREAT MEMORIES PA RUIN!!!
Pic 16.
There were days when an ordinary citizen could not greet a Minister with a head dress on. I wonder whether Mr Membe would still wear that hat if he were to greet Her Majesty the Sovereign of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Unza Secondary School. Yaba!!!!!!!!!!!!!
pali Doti pa HUNZA yashani iyo!!!!
Pic 1 and 2 is a more justified urgent problem pf should be having sleepless nights about. Not creating ethnic conflicts.with political will,1 university per year or in 2 years can be put up in 1 province which could reduce over-admission at unza, cbu and colleges.
Sata should address youth day in one of these dormitories, maybe he will come up with concrete plans for the youth.Â
Yes indeed, the UNZA situation needs attention ASAP. Seeing those girls piled up in that tiny “dormitary” is quite distressing. It must be real musty their in the hot season…yaba. It’s nowonder these girls are easy to get, if you can take her home for a weekend…that is better than those living conditions we’re seeing in the pictures. I’ve always heard it was bad but didn’t know it was that BAD. Shame!
YES #42 WE NEED A UNZA COI ASAP!
Zambians problem is the population grew, meaning more graduates. Thus make three more mid-Range Universities. Problem solved; UNZA looking like CBU shake my head.
Great point here, we should not miss the fact that Minister ( Wise men are from the East ) John Phiri actually went to the source of the problem. Unlike Kambwili who was attacking investors without realising we have weak Labour laws in Zambia. No that we have seen what as Zambians do we do next?
ZNS houses those are made of wood, I usually see such type of houses in America etc movies which collapse when just a small vehicle like a spacio or corsa hits into them, sorry ba buju MMD alimigonga.
UNZA yaba na interest of wanting to go there can finish so, kwati ningombe? MMD see what mess you left us in, while your Dora Siliya & RB were bussy singing ati unprecedented development, its a shame.
Storela tipping the secretary how to zembeleka abena Guy Scott….

But imwe ba National service can you cut the grass on newly built homes? What kind of soldiers are you who cant slash grass (Picture 11)?
There shall never be a govt which will seriously look into UNZA, CBU and Evelyln Hone issues. While our leaders are enjoying being driven and driving expensive vehicles at the expense of tax payers, the institutions will continue deteriorating. Govt cannot accommodate each and every student at the said institutions. There is need to involve the private sector to manage hostels ad mainlining them to acceptable standards. I cant imagine having students exposed to such dirt and grim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
