HH calls for quick electoral reforms

Share

UPND Leader Hakainde Hichilema says the country needs to have electoral reforms as soon as possible.

Mr. Hichilema has told QFM news that the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) should start operating in a more independent manner by being freed from the dictates of the party in government.

He says doing so will help restore public confidence in the Electoral body.

The opposition leader notes that it is therefore important that the country puts in place a system that will allow independent stakeholders such as the church, CSOs and any other non- partisan organizations to second the commissioners to the ECZ as opposed to the current system where the ECZ commissioners are appointed by the head of state.

And Mr. Hichilema has also observed that the new constitution should also focus on reducing the excessive power of the executive as a way of curbing possible abuse of authority by a head of state.

He adds that there is also need through the constitution, for the country to have a parliament that will focus on legislative work more than politics.

  1. Alanda Umwanike! UKWA will start rigging too becoz next time iam NOT voting for UKWA. i regret celebrating Ukwa’s victory i wish i just slept.

  2. HH, those are better thought and plans. the country’s electoral systems continue being punctuated by electoral and other forms of corruption. the reality Mr. HH is that if you were republican president, would you accept to let ECZ operate autonomously? would you allow for independent election of the ECZ Commissioners????? Reality HH

  3. All those calls you are making mister the current PF government made lots of noise about when in opposition.Today they are quiet.Talking of the church and CSOs,well those guys serve their interests. Its a circus of the primitive

  4. HH ARE YOU SCARED THAT YOU MAY NOT BECOME A PRESIDENT? BUT ALL THE SAME, THAT’S THE FACT, YOU WILL NEVER BE EVEN IF THE ECZ IS LEFT INDEPENDENT. UNLESS YOU PROMISE TO HOLD ON TO YOUR POSITION FOR THE NEXT 30YEARS.

ANYWAY, THANKS FOR YOUR ADVISE BUT FORGET BEING ELECTED PRESIDENT OF OUR BELOVED NATION. YOU DON’T HAVE THE QUALITIES IT TAKES TO BE ONE.

  5. You are very right mr President. Keep showing the direction the country needs to go. You are the next President so do not late those that are not interested in the development of Zambia discourage you. We know they are only interested in their pockets and not putting money in the people’s pockets. They are now relying on the police to silence the opposition because they know that the people have seen their lies.

  7.  NACHULA are you from china? pipo who come from china think like that….even ka country u are staying in has no big brains

  8. @MIZ how to people from China think? and by people from China,do you mean the Chinese or Zambians who reside there?

  9. Well spoken mr president. keep advising for the country to move in the write direction. we need a better zambia and this can only be achieved if we put our hands and brains together. it is the love of our people and not self that will see our beloved country prosper.

  10. HH is right, PF promised electral reforms but are quiet now. They know MMD wont complain since they created the system. Zambians HH is right it is the peoples right to choose who they want and not the other way round (ass). Government shuld govern thru the front and not thru the ass.

  11. Sounds sensible. I would add that politicising issues is a popular past time around the globe :) Case in point will be how many negative comments this one piece will churn out by the end of the day. Hope some at least tickle the old funny bone. I miss ‘that’ Zed :)

  12. So that you can win HH , you will never rule Zambia unless you become more Zambian than more Tonga, watch Chipimo overtake you in 2016. I pity you my Tonga Bull

  13. If HH is under five, what about Chipimo? Chipimo is just what is called a bubble – he is going nowhere. That is why the PF and Ukwa do not react to whatever Chipimo says, but they react whenever HH speaks. Chipimo is still developing teeth.

  14. Its too funny (……or sad).

In calling for electoral reform, UPND is saying pretty much the same thing PF was only a few months ago! Yet having been said by HH, the PF sycophants here can’t resist spewing insults and under-5 remarks. No doubt some cadre will be along soon enough to call Mr. Hichilema a dunderhead for good measure.

Truly, its like Pavlov’s dog with these guys – no need to think, just see the letters HH and react.

Like I say, too funny…. or sad.

  15. Iwe #23 Chimbayambaya, HH is UNDER 5 and can’t be compared with a well cultured man like Mr. Chipimo. HH is UNDER 5 because he has no respect for Elders and does not learn to stand on his own. He likes INHERITING DEAD PEOPLE’S PROPERTIES!!!

  16. Well spoken and adviced Mr. Hichilema. My analysis, with the current blunders and style of leadership exhibited by the PF government, UPND has Western. Southern, North Western and Lusaka Provinces wrapped up in its favour. What is needed for UPND is to consolidate these gains and make inroads in the remaining provinces. As I keep saying 2016 is just around the corner. Time to start campaigning is now. My Bemba mbuya’s have a saying that ‘shimuchita panono apokele ndoleshafye umukashi’ literary meaning ‘Rome was not built in a day’. UPND you have a chance come 2016 as long as you do not sit on your laurels and wait for 2015 to kick start campaigns. Zambia deserves better

  17. Way to go. We’ll keep singing (and stinging I might add) until the powers that are not do the princilpled thing without regard to ethnic background.

  18. So HH can sometimez say realistic thingz? Be like RB(waz a marvel to listen to on MUVI TV), think pozitively instead of seeing a problem in everythin that the PF doez or doez not do.

  19. these are very good ideas from hh the next president of zambia. we hope sata aka ukwa and scot aka mr beanare listening tho we are told he has gone to open a secondary school in botswana.

  20. From being called “Satana” to “Ukwa”; well, the grade seven constable who beat “the Educated2 to a presidential post, is really getting popular. It will be a long 4.5years for some. As long as a person is old enough, you expect them to be called all sorts of names, and thats part of life. We shall see when theirs becomes President, in his dreams. Go well bwana

  21. IMPLEMENTATION IS A PROCESS. NAMULANDAFYE BWINO BA HAKAINDE HICHILEMA NOMBA UBWAFYA KUCITA UNDERSTAND POINT YENU BY THE PEOPLE IN GOVERNMENT. I WISH YOU DID NOT FOLLOW THE ADVICE FROM YOUR YOUR MATES TO QUIT THE PACT. NOMBA PAKUTI MUKATEKE NINSHI NAINE NINTAMPA UKUSABAILA TUKALABOMBELA PAMO-MAY BE. :x
