Foreign Affairs and Tourism Minister Given Lubinda has complained over the imposition of Yellow Fever certificate requirements on Zambia by South Africa.
Mr. Lubinda said issues of travel restrictions relating to Yellow Fever have negatively affected the growth of tourism in Southern Africa and Zambia in particular.
The Minister was speaking today in an interview with ZANIS in Mauritius.
He has said that he will use the 48th Regional Tourism Organization in Southern Africa conference, RETOSA, which opens tomorrow in Mauritius to engage his tourism counterparts over the issue.
Mr. Lubinda said Zambia’s tourism had suffered tremendously because of South Africa’s demand that all people who transit through South Africa to Zambia and vice versa must have Yellow Fever certificates.
He was disappointed that even when the area affected by Yellow Fever was a very small location in the North Western part of the country and the rest of Zambia had since been declared a Yellow Fever free Zone by the World Health Organization.
ZANIS
Finally! But this is not the most important matter facing Zambia right now is it?
Paja ponse muli ndwiiiiii people lost business opportunities and money and you did not react.
OMG, We do have a foreign affairs minister after all! This is like 6 months after so many deportations and loss of tourists. Nigeria and other countries took swift and immediate action but instead of doing your job ‘zayellow’, you decide to be govt mouthpiece of BS (a job you have been ‘realigned’ from for months). Please be serious and keep to your lane!! That goes for all you Jay walking cabinet colleagues. While you are at it ask your predecessor and perhaps the acting president or dummy veep to issue a comprehensive TRUE statement (if you still remember what that is from your days at sunday school) on the whereabouts and health status of UKWA!!
better late than never, way to go GL
Ba Lubinda, If Zambia has an area affected by Yellow Fever, small as it may be, why should South Africa a take a risk on us? And if the Zambian traveller is coming from that small area of Zambia, should he be exempted as well? South Africa is a land of laws strictly follows them unlike our country, where lawless is being encouraged by leadership. How can a serious govt encourage its labour force to strike, legalise street vending or encourage pirate taxis? As a leader you are expected to be on the forefront encouraging your people to comply with laws of their host countries.
don’t say that SA is the land of laws i am here i know what type of life which is here if there is a place were the laws are broken its SA especially on the foreign nationals and also corruption intimidation
Too late, why didn’t you channel this through the Foreign office?? Just impose conditions on South Africans coming in to Zambia, ban their airline as well. Tourism has suffered because we don’t have our own national carrier to market the country?? Plus I have never seen any advert on CNN, BBC or Al Jazeera about Zambia. Why Utulo Ba Lubinda naimwe??
Viva Lubinda!!!
Learn and do not dismiss due to ignorance.
Givens may be a carrier.
givens thinks nobody travels or that diseases stay in W.P.
Who is this guy to tell WHO and S.A how to educate?
have you just realised that now ..?its been going on for some time..ala!
Lubinda should be talking to the RSA govt. Has Zambia formally complained to the South Africans? If Zambian tourism is being negatively affected, what measures has Zed govt put in place to eliminate this hurdle? We need to hear about steps being taken by GRZ to address the situation, not complaints.
Ba fi kala support Lubinda. Tamwaba Yellow Fever u Zed
Finally! Manje don’t complain to Zanis ring the foreign affairs minister in South Africa or speak to the ambassador DUH
Lubinda is 100% right. There is no yellow fever in Zambia. It is rife in Barotseland.
Its a bit too late to complain now..where were you Given?Â
Please impose something on SA as well Nigeria did and SA adhered to it….what is wrong with Zed… even SA intimidates us…..young people need to be voted in government mwe…. when will you stand and be free like our national anthem states….. moyopa ka SA sure
Atleast their seems to be someone thinking in this Dont kubeba thing.Lubinda make a formal complaint to SA not that ka statement ku Mauritius, its actually ridiculous that SA think they are more superior
After all this time? You are talking about Yellow Fever issue? Nigerians know how to act, instantly. Bwana Lubinda, the hot issues now are 1) the BA 1964 and 2) sick UKWA.Â
The map does not show that there is any yellow fever area in Zambia. This minister is talking nonsense. The real men, the Nigerians, reacted swiftly and their issue is sorted out and yet the map shows that Nigeria is one of the countries where there is yellow fever. Zambian politicians are into it for their bellies and their pockets nothingelse. What a Minister of Foreign Affairs!!!! He has to wait for a conference to talk to his counterpart. A circus is better organised than the current Zambian state of affairs.
Iwe Lubinda, stick to current affairs, do not dwell on stale issues, see #18 above. You can start by updating us on the ten day private visit to India, is he coming back this weekend when the ten days is up? In any case, are you trying to encourage the spread of Yellow Fever? Our colleagues in RSA believe in prevention rather than cure. And forget about the Nigerians, they have their own issues.
please let the people know what fred m’membe and nchima nchito did in court yesterday
Infact Zambian’s entering SA should also be screened for HIV status at the airport or border of entry, they should not come with medical reports because they can fake them, it must be spot on.
If there is a small area with yellow fever, then am afraid we has lost the argument…… GIVEN DEAL WITH THE ISSUE OF DOWNGRADING ZAMBIAN SCHOOL CERTIFICATE TO GRADE 11 BY SA. THIS IS AN A DELIBERATE NON IMMIGRATION BARRIER TO KEEP OUT ZAMMBIANS. Always defend your country from victimization and XAN..PHOBIA
Can someone please drop the TOURISM tag from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It sounds retarded. Ok, make it a Department under the Ministry if you want. But, Foreign Affairs and Tourism??? It sounds bonkers to me!!! Looks like very few people in Zambia are susceptible to common sense.
Hey pulizzi will are you laying it on the zambians? Lack of common sense should laid on the politicians who come up with such names or ideas. What do you want an ordinary Zambian to do?
Some one tell me if south africans resident in zambia including embassy staff are screened for yellow fever. I am sure this time and age we should not have segregation.
The Nigerians retaliated even though their country is listed as yellow fever infested. I’ve never been to any other country that requests yellow fever certificates, why is it special to the south africans?Â
Lubinda, south africans are minting profits in Zed so just find a way of squeezing them. But start by making an official complaint.
If there is a part of Zambia still affected with yellow fever as Lubinda acknowledges then Zambians must line up for the jab, period. This is not even an issue to talk about. The issue must be to eradicate the yellow fever bug in Zambia. Zambians must be advised to take an HIV test before taking the jab. Those with low immunity either as a result of HIV or otherwise must seek medical advice first. So those quick trips to SA mukutombesha kuli bamwenye baku Durban on pretext of bussiness ni no more.
you given, do you know yellow fever
Why complaining to ZANIS? complain to SA government, infact just do the Nigerian way, why are you people so sleepy???
A vaccine is a biological preparation that improves immunity to a particular disease. A vaccine typically contains an agent that resembles a disease-causing microorganism and is often made from weakened or killed forms of the microbe, its toxins or one of its surface proteins. The agent stimulates the body’s immune system to recognize the agent as foreign, destroy it, and “remember” it, so that the immune system can more easily recognize and destroy any of these microorganisms that it later encounters.
So, how is yellow fever vaccine by south African foreigners that go into south Africa of benefit of benefit to south Africa? considering the fact above!
