POLICE have launched investigations to establish the source of funding used to transport hundreds of people to attend the recent Barotse National Council (BNC) meeting which resolved that Western Province should secede from the rest of Zambia.
And Ngambela Clement Sinyinda of Western Province is said to have gone into hiding following a warn-and-caution statement recorded from him by the police on Thursday over alleged treason charges.
Sources told the Times of Zambia that huge sums of money were spent by some opposition politicians who wanted to take advantage of the situation to win popularity.
The sources confirmed that police were investigating to establish the suppliers of funding for the hire of several trucks and buses used to transport youths who were still camped in Limulunga several days after the meeting closed.
On the Ngambela’s going into hiding, Western Province Police Commissioner, Fanwell Siandenge, said Mr Sinyinda was hiding alongside Induna Mukulwakashiko Batuke Imenda.
Mr Siandenge said the two were “fearing the unknown” because police were not looking for them anymore having interviewed them last week.
He said he was aware that they had gone into hiding since the warn-and-caution statements were recorded from them, but police were still waiting for further instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions over allegations of treason.
Ngambela Sinyinda declined to comment on the reports in an interview by phone, saying he wanted to respect the Government which was no longer issuing statements to avoid fuelling divisions.
“Spare us young man, at least for some time. My colleagues in the Government are keeping quiet and I believe your aim as the media is to bring peace. “It is good that Government has kept quiet. This is a long process but I cannot comment on any of your questions,” he said.
Reporter
: There are reports which suggest that you have gone into hiding since Thursday after you were questioned by the police. Is that true?
Ngambela
: We do not want to say anything younger man. Like I said, spare us. In fact I have also issued instructions to our people not to say anything on this matter because dialogue is the way forward.
On Friday, police said they were investigating the statements made by Ngambela Sinyinda and Induna Imenda during the BNC meeting to establish whether they amounted to treason.
The two were alleged to have issued the statement during the meeting held from March 26 to 27.
And Women for Change executive director, Emelly Sikazwe has said the Barotseland Agreement of 1964 was not about seceding but addressing the socio-economic challenges faced by the Zambian people.
“The agreement is about promoting development as freedom to harness the economic opportunities that are available in our country,” Ms Sikazwe said.
She implored the Government to promote dialogue with the leadership in Western Province to resolve the stand-off.Ms Sikazwe said in a statement in Lusaka yesterday that women were deeply concerned about the situation in Western Province.
She said efforts should be made by the Government and Barotse Royal Establishment to help promote peace and security the country has enjoyed since independence in 1964.She said the solution to the problem should take into account the interests of the Zambian people and the republican Constitution.
[Times of Zambia]
dont tha police in Zambia know how to investigate quietly so that they r able to build properly on a case & also catch the perpetreters unaware??? do they have to run to the media for every criminal investigation they are conducting???? this buffles me too much!!
They have to show sata that they are working so that they don’t kudabwa with immediate effect. Uselee chaps
How do you know someone is hiding if you are not looking for him?
well these chaps thot they could get away with it now u are hiding ka..? arrest the chaps and investigate later naimwe ba police
They believe they are in hiding but the truth is that they are in limulunga. Have the police searched for them? No! ZP should not comment unnecessarily and stop fearing don’t kudabwa with immediate effect!
“He said that people should understand that the resolutions that where made are not him alone but the people of western province. He was speaking this morning on the UK based INTERNET radio Crossfire blog radio, monitored by QFM radio in Lusaka.”
When did the Ngambela go into hiding????? The police is lying that the Ngambela has gone into hidding. We will not respond to the police of the neigbouring country Zambia.
“He said he was aware that they had gone into hiding since the warn-and-caution statements were recorded from them, but police were still waiting for further instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions over allegations of treason”
What is wrong with the police of the neighbouring country Zambia? The Ngambela spoke on Saturday and also is reached on his phone. The police know where to get him and can trace him from him mobile phone. Its only Sunday in between and Sabbath and Monday. He is around his home in Limulunga.
The police are totally inept, so what if somebody funded the meeting, is it a crime? Why are they wasting resources investigating nothing? And how can they tell he’s hiding if they’re not looking for him. Can you tell something is lost if you’re not looking for it? And Ngambela Sinyinda is equally pathetic in ‘My colleagues in the Government are keeping quiet’ and ‘It is good that Government has kept quiet’. Which government is he referring to, the same one that he stopped recognising as having authority over him just the other day? Does this chap know whether he’s going or coming?! This shows the poor calibre of leadership.
HIDE AND SEEK! the game has begun. How do you tell someone is hiding if at all you have not been searching for him? Siandenge ndiwe buju wabwanji???
Reading between the lines: “the people funding the movement” is implying UPND. Therefore, HH could be in the line of fire. Charge: Funding activities meant to overthrow legitimate goverment.
Fanwell Siandenge – You are really fun indeed. The Ngambela is not Ukwa to offer entainment statements such as UKWA. Ngambela only speak when its necessary. Reporters if want any statement or information, they should ask Ukwa since this issue affect our neighbouring country Zambia.
Haha I love it. “Don’t say anything because dialogue is the way forward”
Was the recent BNC meeting illegal? If not why pursue people who honestly thought they were contributing to a good cause, i.e trying to resolve this issue. People should feel free to contribute their money to any cause they believe in as long as it is legal.
THANK YOU EMILY SIKASWE. THAT IS WHAT I AM READING AS WELL IN THIS DOCUMENT (BA64). PRESENTING THIS DOCUMENT TO THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY WILL JUST CAUSE LAUGHTER AT THE UN
Since you like comedy in Zambia, let us give that a try and see who will laugh last. You must be a proper sikuba to think that a British representative could have signed as a witness to a comedy script in 1964.
I hope the police don’t make any unnecessary arrests, real or imagined, to avoid turning some individualz into instant heroez…
Could SA have sponsored the meeting since that was one recognisable national anthem that they sung at the Council meeting?
The barotse anthem precedes the south Africa anthem. It could have well been sponsored by Lesotho. All these anthems have the ‘mulena buluka sichaba sa hesu’ hymn. The verse was composed by Francois coillard who first ministered in basotholand before relocating to barotseland in the 1890s. Point is only the barotse anthem was sung at the bnc. It was composed before the South African one.
Ireena, please desist from re-writing history, Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika (the South African national anthem) was composed in 1897 by Enoch Sontonga, a Methodist school teacher. It was originally sung as a church hymn but later became an act of political defiance against the apartheid government.
Nkosi sikelele Africa has nothing to do with ‘mulena buluka sicaba sa hesu’. The similarity is in the two being hymns. You are the one trying to rewrite history. God bless Africa is surely different in meaning to god or king protect my people. You are the one who is rewriting history.
I am prepared to die for the cause, but meanwhile let me go into hiding !! I am a spineless retard who doesn’t really believe in the cause – I just want the benefits, not the suffering that comes with the package. When I was minister in the MMD government, I was party to the arrest and murder of the people I now claim to defend. This is how seriously you should take me
thats so true, i was thinking exactly the same. this guy was part of the MMD killing thugs that killed our lozi brothers and now he is holly to the same lozi people, shame
This is not there right time for investigating who did what? It is the time for the government and the so called Barotseland National council to sit and reach and agreement in a mutual way. This is not the right time for Zambian to fight ourselves because of miss understanding of the Barotseland agreement of 1964. Quiet OK, the people of Barotseland in other words western province declared themselves independent from Zambia minus Zambia acknowledging or accepting that they have granted independence to Western province, this in legal terms is not independence remember for both Northern Rhodesia and Barotseland to become independence both had to wait for Great Britain to accept and granted independence.
RB rushed out of the country leaving money with HH like he did before when under 5 was given USD1.5M to leave the pact by RB. HH went on to buy used japanes vehicles for his campaigns.Again under 5 was used by RB to fund the confusion in WP since when did HH become involved in WP? Last year he was quiet when there were problems in WP how come today he wants to be the champion of the WP solution.HH will be sold by his close friends he should be careful. He will be locked up and no one will speak for him.Remember KK, Dean Mungomba & others being locked up Nyerere came to FTJ and only spoke of KK same issues here.
Why the hell then did security forces gather to provide security if the meeting was illegal? Zambians can be so petty minded.
Police pliz work proffessinally, y do u always run to the media. investigate matters and feed the public on facts not on shit……….rumours o da time. shame on u and your boses
Government with no direction-period
POLICE IN ZAMBIA LEAVES A LOT OF ???????????? WHO TRAINS THESE CHAPS? INVESTIGATE AND TELL THE PEOPLE THE SOURCES OF FUNDING, THEREAFTER.
Lol. Govt sent soldiers and police to western province to maintain law and order. The same govt gave a permit to allow the meeting to go ahead. Honesty Zambians are comedians
. Barotse agreement paved the way for the independence of Zambia and only fo.ols like some people above would laugh at it. It is a legal document you id.iots .
WHAT IS WRONG ABOUT FUNDING A LEGITIMATE MEETING? NOW THAT YOU HAVE FAILED TO GET HENRY BANDA FROM SOUTH AFRICA AND YOUR VUVUZELA POST NEWSPAPER WAS CHEATING PEOPLE THAT HENRY WAS IN KENYA, YOU START FANNING PROBLEMS AT HOME. PLEASE FIND SOLUTIONS TO BAROSTE AGREEMENT, DO NOT LOOK FOR NEW PROBLEMS.
viva barotseland!.abash barotse traitors.
Kudya Nikusheta ,just wait.the future will tell. Some people are not born cowards.
Send Betty Mushala to look for Sinyinda. I hope he closed to his relatives in Caprive.
There goes our politicians. Like the ostrich of old, burying their heads in the sand. The same old story of refusing to solve the Barotseland problem by deferrement. Confused and clueless, they are still trying to buy time to leave the problem for future generations to solve. Unfortunately, by then, by using these tactics of deferrement, the same politicians will have helped the Barotseland problem to bear a child or two after its own kind. Then it will be two or three problematic and unsolvable issues–maybe even tragic in magnitude. Of course Sata is now trying to fix Southern Province. I can only say, “Sata, nteete mulilo. Ulapya.”
arrest those primitive buggers they thot they would get away with it and for those of you poor lozis who are following blindly can you open your eyes? this is just to the benefit of the so called royal family and you will remain dying like dogs, you are too fast to forget what RB and KUNDA did to you, this one is coming with full force us zambians dont care about your vote in 2016 all we want is ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION
THE MATTER IS POTENTIALLY TREASONABLE AND SO THE INVESTIGATIVE WINGS OF GRZ MUST HAVE EVIDENCE OF THE FUNDERS OF A TREASONABLE UNDERTAKING. LET THEM DO THEIR JOB.
Treasonable in the heads of pafwaka cadres like yourself
Are you looking for HH?
Why hide? Just come out and say what you believe in. The issue will be sorted out sooner rather than later. Just feel free and come in open. After all what you did is what you think is right, even if it borders on treason for it is right. Just defend it.
What is so special about this treat .World over many treaties were signed and are no longer in effect the law prevails remember there is no Barotesland agreement in Zambian law so culprits are in trouble mark my word. Remember it took the Nyerere to speak on behalf of our President KK.Boma no Boma.
After you give them a permit and the meeting took place and police were in attenance and even dinned with them that is when they investigate the source of funding This is veing silly and folish. i regrete being zambian too much Lusaka play house and kitwe little theater hapennings. i think libongani will go faster tnan Malama
The Ngambela is now in hiding!!This is a sign of cowardice. From what he said after the resolutions we thought the man has guts to face the law or even death as he put it himself.I think he said what he said to impress his subjects, especially the chiefs who were bulldozed to attend the meeting and agree to seceed from Zambia without reasoning. Now he is alone and fears to be exposed lest he is arrested.Be brave man!! Come out in the open and face the consequences of your resolutions!!
Stop beating around the bush. Arrest all the characters who signed the treasonous document.
The answer lies in devolution of power so as to enhance development especially in rural areas..we have tried a centralized style of governance for all these years and look where we are today.
The problem here is that us Zambians who are in good employment in urban areas do not feel the poverty in Shangombo, Chama, Kaputa and gwembe valley.
Rubbish! You say you are not looking for them but they have gone into hiding. How?Does that make sense?
Oh! So, the source of this news is Times of PF? Had i known i would not have read the article.
Stella Libongani’s father sponsored the meeting
HH, MILUPI, SIKOTA, RB, DORA, KUNDA THE LIST GOES ON
