President Sata commemorates Gabon Air crash

President Sata has joined millions of Zambians in remembering the Gabon air crash during which the cream of Zambian footballers died in 1993.

This is a according to a press release made available to Lusakatimes by George Chellah Special assistant to the Presidenton Press and Public relations.

In commemorating the 19th Anniversary of the Gabon air crash, the President paid tribute to the deceased whose place he said remains special in hearts of the Zambians.

“You were the truest heroes of our time and there can be no history in Zambia without mentioning your gallant efforts which ensured our country is placed high on the world football map,” the Head of State said.

The President also urged the current crop of players to emulate the fallen heroes whose dedication to national duty and mark of patriotism was beyond reproach.

“On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Zambia, the people and indeed on my own behalf, I wish the families of the deceased God’s guidance as they remember their loved ones,” the President said.

The Zambia national team was travelling to Dakar for a 1994 World Cup qualifier against Senegal when the plane they were travelling in plunged into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Libreville killing all on board.

  2. Was the crash on the 27th April or 28th April? and when are the families going to be compensated since their husbands,fathers,brothers died whilst on national duty? 

  3. # 2 KIWI, How many times are they going to be compensated. The families of those players have recieved huge amounts in excess of K 5billion. Most of them have put that money to good use , while others misapplied the funds and want more. Meanwhile, MAY THE GOOD LORD LOOK AFTER THE FAMILIES THEY LEFT BEHIND. It was so sad that we lost such great talent.

  7. Sata was one of the ministers who refused to release money to Faz to charter a Zambia airways plane!So now he mourns?where are the six bodies that were not collected?where is the full Gabon crash report?we still seek answers.GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.

  8. # 6 kiwi, the report has not been released, but huge amounts of money were paid. If you lived in K afue you will remember bashi Kelvin living a lavish life after he got the first K500m.
