Herve Renard has named his 26-man team for Zambia’s 2014 World Cup Group D qualifiers in June.

Renard has extended a call-up to newcomer Aaron Katebe of Hwange for Zambia’s training camp in Johannesburg starting next week after the young defender impressed against Angola in a friendly played on Wednesday in Luanda that ended scoreless.

However, Renard has dropped Power Dynamos goalkeeper Joshua Titima and replaced him with Daniel Munyau of Red Arrows.

Other no shows on the list include the Golden Arrows duo of Collins Mbesuma and Joseph Musonda due to form and fitness respectively.

18 players from the victorious 2012 Africa Cup team are in the provisional team that will be trimmed to 18 before heading to Sudan ahead of their Group D opening game in Khartoum on June 2.

Zambia will host Ghana in their second Group D game in Ndola on June 9.

  1. Where is Jacob Mulenga? If i were the coach i will drop the following; Danny munyau, aron katebe, thomas nyirenda, sitali,..i still need 4 to be dropped out, but it will be tough!!! On collins we shall not feel any gap, may be pali ba muzo..Good luck Boys lets now beging to defend our tittle.

  2. UKWA,

Jacob Mulenga still recovering after surgery. He should be fit to travel to Brazil!!

I like the competion for positions, look at the fire power , Kangwa couldn’t make it though extremely good.

  3. A-Team squad capable of taking us to Brazil…hope more of our players plied their trade in competitive leagues in Europe where the action is!!

  4. Too bad for ba Musonda. He was an effective left back at the AFCON 2012. He showed great sense of duty. Good that ka Mbola Emma is back in the team. Renard knows his boys. Thumbs up.

  5. great selection, Herve. this looks like a good squad. Im glad that we are going back to a time when people competed for the right to play rather than dictating their place or thinking that wearing the motherlands jersey was a birthright. loving your tactics coach!

    Propjoe.

  6. A good squard. My final 18 would be, Goal keepers( Mweene,Munyau), Defenders(Sunzu,Katebe, Mbola, Chintu, Nyambe, Musonda), Midfileders( Sinkala,Chansa, Nyirenda,Kalaba, Chisamba, Sitali) Strikers( Mayuka, Sakuwaha,Singuluma, Kola). Sakuwaha. Sholud capain the team.

Probable line up against Sudan. 4,3,1,2 formation. ( 1. Mweene), Defenders( Nyambe,Mbola, Chintu, Sunzu), Midfielders( Sinkala,Nyirenda,Chansa, Kalaba), Strikers (Sakuwaha, Mayuka). Let Sinkala and Nyirenda be the holding midfielders, Chansa as attacking and Kalaba to be given a free role Shanting from right to left wing supplyin Sakuhawa and Mayuka.

  7. Well done Renard for dropping Mbesuma..Chap was past his best and a bad influence on the team.

  8. Ba Mbesuma chibuku ne fi jililjili ne michopo nama hule, yamiletelela nomba. You will now be story telling in tarvens ku Luanshya on how you sat on the bench at Portsmouth.

  9. He shud have included Fwayo Tembo and Clifford Mulenga in place of Chamanga and Joseph Sitali respectively.

  10. Wonderful selection, a winning team. Am very relieved there is no more Mbesuma and Renard has selected Singuluma and Sakuwaha instead of the Nkana lads. This shows that he is not beating about the bush!!

  11. Time to move forward. Whoever is crying about Mbesuma will remain alone with a broken heart and we will go on singing a Mozegeta song ati “Guy wahsala weka ifwe natusangalal pantu Zambia 1, twalebanaya bangwele”

This is the right time to bring new blood in the National team to have depth in the squad. We want a situation where if one player is injured, the replacement will also be equal to the task. Am happy for Aaron Katebe who has added to the list of young boys like Mayuka, Chisamba, Sinkala, Kola, Mbola, and others. Watch these young lads in the next 4 years and see the World Cup coming to Zambia. Lol……..

  12. Surely James Chamanga should be left to rest nomba mwe. He like Mbesuma have made their contributions to Zambian soccer, but now we need to give chance to Kola (R), Kangwa (E), Kampamba (R), Mulenga (C) and other tested youngsters to wear the Zambian jersey.

Though as at now we can accept that we still need the experience of Chintu (K), Musonda (J) and Katongo (C). These players have some energy to help the young lads to adapt to the game before they retire. This is what we call transformation and smooth transition.

We cannot afford to offload all the experienced players at once, but slowly begining with the likes of Chamanga and Mbesuma, since we have strong replacements in the likes of Mayuka, Kola and Mulenga Jacob, plus nabaiche Kampamba na kangwa.

  13. Chamanga should be droped. He has done his part and should be left to retire peacefully..
Otherwise good selection of players. Renard knows what he is doing..

  14. 30 30 mwi team naimwe.ninshi mwabapatila abaiche? ba mbesuma chabipa nobufontini bwiine. otherwise GO MIGHTY ZAMBIA GO!. CHIPOLOPOLO
