Jacob Mulenga says he is in no rush to return to national team duty after making a successful comeback to action on Tuesday following his recent recovery from a long-term injury.
Mulenga, who has been out of action since last November due to a knee injury in a Dutch league game against Ajax, played on Tuesday in a training game against Ste.De.Co that his club FC Utrecht won 6-1.
“My knee feels normal again, but I feel that I have not reached one hundred percent,” Mulenga told Utrecht’s official website.
“This gives me a huge relief. I’m glad I’ve played again.
“I was called by my national team, but it is not the right thing to do now.
“The move to play international matches is too big.
“I’ve now played for the first and I need more time to get back on higher of level play. These friendly matches will help me get that.”
Mulenga , who is on standby, is not on the official 26-man provisional list for Zambia’s 2014 World Cup Group D qualifiers against Sudan and Ghana on June 2 and 9 in Khartoum and Ndola respectively.
Jacob should travel to RSA to join camp, he can do light training there, and then play as super sub in 80 min Zambia 6 – 1 Sudan.
We ve got enough ammunition, let him fully recorver. Cheers up tunker
Gud news that Jacob is recovering, however its too early 4 him to feature in the upcoming matches,he will b part of the arsenal in the return match in Accra. All the best Zambia, this 2014 W/C looks good 4 us and am sure the legendary Pele is looking 4ward to c Zed in action.
to hell with you
I second your emotion.
good news for this super player. but he needs more time and more games to get back to himself. no pressure for now.
Let Jacob have another 2 months of rest, otherwise we risk losing him for another long period. Remember he had that long injury and the moment he felt a bit fine, he was rushed into action and the same injury resurrected now more serious than it was at first. Chances are that if he rushes again, he may end up with another long period of waiting.
A little bit of some patience will be to Jacob’s advantage and Zambia at large.
Jack big up for your recovery surely time is needed but be careful injuries can finish you. good news for chipolopolo………..
Good to have you back Jacob we missed your presence on the pitch. We will need you in the national team as soon as you are fit. The AFCON is a long journey I am sure you will play a part at some point.
