The Development Bank of Zambia is operating on a 55 million dollar capitalization instead of 700 million dollars.

Development Bank of Zambia Acting Managing Director Darwin Shinde says according to the Development bank of Zambia act the institution is supposed to have an authorized capital of 700 million dollars.

He told ZNBC news in Lusaka that the bank needs 50 million dollars for re capitalization in the next 14 years to reach the authorized capital.

Mr Shinde says currently the bank can not participate in major developmental projects such as power expansion programmes because of insignificant capital.

He said that the Development bank Zambia is owed 88 billion Kwacha loans and has 30 billion kwacha worth of bad loans.

On Tuesday Finance Deputy Minister Miles Sampa visited Development Bank of Zambia and said government will consider recapitalizing the bank.

  1. Going by the above statistics which me Fred and Nchito owes the bank 16% of the bank’s Debt and probably 47% of the bad loans is theirs, bad debts please write them off

  2. believe you me, most of that loan is owed by these same politicians who are wapping every day like fools.DBZ, please publish the names of all those who owe the institution so that we can demand for our tax money now…..please i beg that a full list is availed to the public because this is not private money, but public!

  3. this bank also lacks proffessionalism…why cry foul when you gave the loans uninsured..if you insured your loans you shouldnt even be crying about bad debts, lack of capital for investment..etc.

  4. The bank was managed unprofessionally by giving giving out unsecured loans worth millions of on Dollars.

The bank must engage bailiffs to collect the debt owed to them.

    Dollar

  5. Govt is never good at running business due to political interference. That is why privatisation is better than state control. Just look at the stories of

    Zamtel
    Zesco
    Nitrogen Chemicals
    DBZ
    etc

  6. # 7 cycle mata: professionalism and politics of poverty do not mix. Dr B Ngandwe was the director of DBZ and now he is at BOZ: how can you say there is no professionalism?  Where is Dr Mwenda?
This is highly politicized. 30bn zmk ???? 14/30bn went to finance the inefficiencies of zambian airways.

    • Brother, why don’t you avail more information so that these manic depressed Mutembo Nchito/Fred Mmembe know the truth? It’s a crime to continue riding on the criminality and untruthfulness of Rupiah Banda and his minions. Why didn’t the arrest Nchito and Mmembe when they were in government? I mean, why do we want to sacrifice innocent zambians because you lost an election. If Mutembo Nchito is forced to resign for a crime he did not commit, then there’s no point of fighting for justice. We are fighting a judicial system that felt and believed it was impervious to scrutiny and accountability. If Nchito and Mmembe are guilty, then lets give them chance to tell their side of the story. We have allowed judges to pass judgements that ultra vials the principle of true justice and democracy.

    • Personally, I want to hear what Nchito and Mmembe have to say about the K14 billion, and if they had a party to play in this saga, then cage them. But don’t convict them without them telling their side of the story. Personally, if they truly stole K14 Billion, I don’t just want them to pay, I want them caged and throw the key in the Kafue river. But if they are innocent, then whoever has been manufacturing lies against them must pay just as dearly too.

  7. You see, if only Nchito and Mmembe can pay up, the bank would not have any bad loans. DBZ only has 2 bad borrowers, Nchito and mmembe.

    • Kanshi mwe mimpolompompi mumfwa shani? Nchito na Mmembe tabaliko when DBZ advanced the K14 Billion to zambian airways. Then came in after because they believed as country we needed a country airline. Tabaliko and they have actually lost money in this whole saga. This are proficient lawyers bound by the law ethics, but it does not make them stupid.

  8. “He said that the Development bank Zambia is owed 88 billion Kwacha loans and has 30 billion kwacha worth of bad loans”.

K14bln of the bad loans is Mmembe & Co. All those who owe DBZ the rest of the money, don’t pay back unless Mmembe & Co do. If DBZ sues you just tell the court that the law has to be applied equitably. Use the legal jargon of precedent and quote previous cases including the DBZ – Mmembe case. As for DBZ, unless you show your balls, defy your political masters and take steps to implement what Judge Mutuna ruled and recover the K14bln, please SHUT UP AND COLLAPSE.

  9. Now, is it only the trio who owe the bank all that money? And will upnd also push for info on who else owe the bank thruogh their protests? Or is it in national interest or ni kalijo on nchito? Some one help please

  10. At the end of the day, I am beginning to realise we are all zambians. Not that I support Nchito and Mmembe, but it’s the hatred against them that’s making me believe there where onto something! I mean what would interest the entire government and state machinery to go after an innocent citizen as mutembo. He left his firm and his brother nchima where they make more money so that he could serve our country.

ANYONE WITH INFORMATION AGAINST NCHITO AND MMEMBE, PLEASE TUPENI FWE MA ZAMBIANS UKUCHILA UKUBEPA UBUFI LYONSE. IF THEY ARE WANTING, THEN LETS CAGE THEM, BUT IF THEY ARE NOT, WE CAGE THE PURPETRATORS OF THIS GABBAGE for it has gone too far. It’s inhuman to hate a fellow zambian this bad when you have never even crossed paths. This is unbelievable.

  11. zisc would have had the same problems….but two wisemen came to save it….why cannt the govenmt look for Singongo and Mweemba and ask them how DBZ can also be saved….here at DBZ we are worried we dont know where to look and we might just close……please Shi Mulenga you have send officers unfairly treated back to where they belong…get hold of those two men…….

  12. mmembe also wanted to borrow from zsic remember and magande was in the front. we could have been in the same problem.
