Ghana Coach Appiah Sets Ndola Target

Share

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah says they respect Zambia but are targeting a win in Ndola this Saturday.

The Ghanaians arrived in Ndola at lunchtime on Thursday ahead of their 2014 World Cup Group D qualifying showdown against Zambia there at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in what will be the hosts first game at the brand new venue.

“Zambia are the African champions, and they are playing on their home ground, so it’s stands to reason it will not be easy,” Appiah said.

Ghana come to Zambia also seeking revenge after the latter eliminated the Black Stars 1-0 on February 8 in the Africa Cup quarterfinals in Bata, Equatorial Guinea.

“We have prepared well, we are in good spirits but we know that Zambia are deserved of their title as African champions and that they have very good players,” Appiah said.

“We will have to play as well as we can if we are to achieve what we want to do – and that is to get a win.”

Ghana lead Group D on three points, Sudan are second also on three points but with an inferior goal difference.

Zambia, who need to win this match to get their 2014 qualifying race back on track after losing 2-0 to Sudan on June 2, are third on zero points together with Lesotho.

Bottom placed Lesotho host Sudan on Sunday in the other Group D match.

  1. Final Warning!
If you are Zambian out there and love football, please don’t watch that game you will die from ‘Chikonko’….It’s either we lose by a goal to nil or we draw.Either way, we are out!
We are in ‘maningi’ trouble Chikolopelo, sorry I meant to say/write Chipolopolo!

  2. What a spineless fool you are Makaveli!! Zambia is winning this game 2 nil at our new showpiece stadium named LPM after our fallen president, who like our fallen football heroes of 93 was a true soldier and died while in service to the country. Some fools contributing to this article do not fully understand what that means.

  3. Go Go Chipolopolo. We wish the entire best….home ground its not a joke GUYS, Zambia 2 – Ghana – 0 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. ZAMBIA!ZAMBIA! EYEEE-EE- CHIPOLOPOLO. INDEED ITS MWANAWASA AT PLAY. GO BOYS GO. GHANA 1, ZAMBIA 3. GOOD LUCK ZAMBIA AND I WOULD BE WATCHING.

  5. Zambia 2_1Ghana Zambia will score the two early goals Ghana will pull 1 later when chipolopolo will play a deffensive game in 75’till 90′ Go ba zambia Go from JHB

  6. Chipolopolo has been my favorite African team ever since I was a young boy growing up in Accra, because of Kalusha Bwalya, but I don’t think they can beat Ghana this time round. The only way to beat Ghana is to shut their midfield down which will be very difficult task –maybe the Great Kalu can tell them how to do that. Playing defensive will not help in this game. Ghana 2 Zambia 0

  7. another dissapointment coming for the chipolopolo fans and this time on your Home Chinese made stadium .

  8. @16..now what u still dont get do u,Now we coming to Kumasi n we know u gonna try and attack but then will give u another punch in the dying minutes and 4 all the Zambians always support yo team.

  9. We’ve won the game, which is good. My big question is: HOW DID WE END UP IN THE SAME GROUP WITH GHANA? Just look at the group South Africa is in, I think the African Champions should have been given some breathing space in this round.

  10. Sorry Kofi my bro. I also love the Black Stars because of Africa’s finest player Abedi Ayew Pele but this is Zambia’s era

  11. This is chipolopolo era, Black stars time came and passed, Indomitable lions time lasted long, then the super eagles time has never really come and it keeps on teasing, The pharaos time is semi-consistent, now is time for chipolopolo but the critics are not yet convinced……from a staunch Ghanaian who follows african soccer, Zambia is here to revolutionize soccer.
